Finished:
Verity is an engaging human,Nancy is for nostalgic sake, Emily Bell‘s book has fleshed out, intriguing characters, themes of friendship, grief, letting go, The train was about true giving, adventure, 2nd chances.

In process: #goldenageclub-English murder;teashop & bookstore-what‘s not to like? another murder in the snow in the early 1900s.

AlaMich I‘m reading An English Murder also. I like the fact that the author gets in some sly humor and some social commentary. I think it‘s better than the run of the mill classic English cozy. 3mo
kspenmoll @AlaMich I agree! A pleasant surprise. 3mo

My reading is slowly coming back. I find that I can read read for about 30-45 minutes at a time, but its usually closer to 30 minutes most times. I currently am working on The Martian and Seven Husbands for my book meetings this week. And when those are done, I will get onto In Memorium and When the Elephants Dance. I will attempt to work on Little Fires and Charlotte's Web, but I have some others in the wings to work on.

Cinfhen So glad to hear that you‘re starting to return to reading!! Hope that means you‘re beginning to feel better! 7mo
melissajayne @Cinfhen it‘s still a little bit of a struggle, so I‘m going to be moving in with my parents for a few years and rent out my apartment during that time. I talked to my sister about it and she gave me some great advice and as she was saying it, I made the decision to go and stay with my parents for that time.⤵️ 7mo
melissajayne @Cinfhen my sister said something about me being overly recovered rather than being just barely recovered from cancer treatments and moving backwards. Something about being at like 105% ready to go back and going to 95% ready instead of being 90% ready and going back to 80% ready to be on my own. I‘ve just barely recovered from my last surgery (got the all clear to go swimming about 2 weeks ago). 7mo

melissajayne @Cinfhen I just have so little motivation to do anything, including just the regular day to day routine. A decade ago, I had no problem doing the daily routine, but most days I just plop down on my couch and turn my laptop and tv and basically just ignore most things, until I can‘t stand the mess, etc. 7mo
Cinfhen You‘re body and mind has been through so much. It‘s understandable that you have zero motivation, energy and strength. Moving in with your parents seems like a great way to begin to rebound. Best of luck - Every little step is a victory 🙌🏻💗 7mo
melissajayne @Cinfhen they have; thanks. 7mo

Slow week, work hard, but enjoyed my conference!
Cat Step was good.
Daring Night was 2nd in a Liverpool detective series that I think I enjoy more because it‘s in Liverpool 🤷‍♀️
Started Holly last night and am trying not to read at 100 miles an hour!!

Bookwormjillk I‘m not letting myself start Holly today until my chores are done because I know what‘s going to happen once I do. 7mo
TrishB @Bookwormjillk you have good self control! 7mo
Cinfhen Is the new King a stand alone??? 7mo

Cinfhen Glad you enjoyed your conference 😄 7mo
BarbaraBB A good week on all fronts! 7mo
TrishB @Cinfhen errr, yes and no. The story is stand alone. But Holly is a much loved character who appears in previous books and there is a lot of assumption that you know past story lines. I have 100 pages to go but sleep calls! 7mo
Cinfhen Ahhhh. I think I‘ll pass than xxx enjoy the rest of the book ♥️ 7mo

The Chuckling Whatsit | Richard Sala
post image

I usually post my #weeklyreport Sunday afternoon but this has been such a great reading week I am going to post now. 7 books read since previous report: 3 manga, 1 graphic novel, 1 story collection, 1 novel & 1 collection of linked novellas. The three managa were vol 7-9 of Blood On the Tracks. So disturbing. So intense. The gn was the tagged one by Sala. A hybrid of pulp, crime, expressionism & horror. The story collection was Carys Davies (cont)

vivastory Redemption of Galen Pike. I sat down one morning with the intention of reading just 1 or 2 & before I knew it I had finished it. Incredible collection. The novel & the novella I have posted reviews for recently (O'Brien's final book in her trilogy & Malfi's Ghostwritten). An excellent reading week. Am now 100 pages into Tarrt's The Little Friend & about halfway through a reread of Frank O'Hara's Meditations In An Emergency.

BarbaraBB It‘s been quite the week indeed, wow! 8mo
Cinfhen Ohhh, that‘s good to know. I‘ve seen lots of mixed reviews so I was a little hesitant. 8mo
vivastory @Cinfhen I still have a ways to go so I'm reluctant to give a definitive opinion but I like what I have read so far. It took me a little bit to get accustomed to her style but once I did I enjoyed it & Harriet is a great character. It will probably be one I dip in & out of over a few weeks until I finish it. 8mo
Cinfhen Ok, I‘ll keep my eyes open for your final thoughts 😁 8mo

5 books completed since previous #weeklyreport
Stine's Horror At Camp JellyjJam* Barker's Books of Blood Vol. 3*Vasko Popa's Selected Poems (translated by Simic)*Hoke's Open Throat*Tagged Book.
The first 2 were a bit disappointing. I had a lot of fun with my prior Stine book, however I have started reading One Day At Horrorland & am having a blast. The Barker was frontloaded with the best stories, definitely the weakest vol I've read (cont)

vivastory The other 3 were all outstanding & scratched different itches. A week later, Open Throat continues to be one of the most surprising new releases I've read; Vasko Popa is one of my fave poets of all-time & it was great reading Simic's versions; the tagged anthology was a lot of fun. There was only one story where I guessed how the murder was committed before the reveal.

I have posted this priceless meme before but am reusing it for my #weeklyreport as I actually read 1 Goosebumps book this week (the very strange I Live In Your Basement!) & am also in the middle of the tagged book. A total of 6 books this book, including the one in progress: 2 graphic novels, 2 goosebumps, 2 novels. The standout is Orphan Master's Son which I will be recommending for years to come.

Complicity | Iain Banks
post image

Four books read this week. one was a short story collection that I had been working on for a few weeks, another was PK Dick's Electric Dreams & two bleak, unsettling works of dark literary fiction: Iain Banks' Complicity & Cormac McCarthy's Child of God. My favorites were the Banks & the McCarthy.

I'm posting my bibliophile highlight of the week as a separate post & several days early because there's no way that it will be topped. A few days ago I had the extremely good fortune to spend a delightful evening with my fellow horror fanatic @reggie There was book shopping, dinner & lots & lots of great conversation. It was a fantastic evening!

vivastory @TrishB No pics, just hanging out. A true Gen X experience lol. In all seriousness I'm on computers/phone all day for work and I didn't even look at my phone once while we hung out except to look up the name of a movie. It was nice ignoring my phone for the evening 9mo
