I can not believe I have NEVER read a Steven King novel before. How is that even possible?
I'll be reading this one as an ebook through Libby soon! I'm hyping it up.

Myself and Dexter 🐾 (photo bombing with his paw) helped my Dad clear out his garage this morning. We stumbled across a box of old books and found this goldmine!
I'm pretty certain that's my copy of Misery that I read umpteen times in high school and even did some of my English Literature coursework based on the book!
My Dad was livid his copy of The Stand was in there as he replaced it with an expensive hardback years ago 🤣

pickMisery came as a welcome surprise in my journey. I'd seen the movie, but hadn't read the book, and thought this would be a fairly perfunctory read with few surprises. How wrong I was. A taut, tension-filled study in captivity, Misery kept me turning the pages as quickly as I could, eager to learn the outcome of Paul's desperate efforts, or to witness each fresh horror unleashed by Annie's unraveling mind. A very delighted 5/5.

This is an old read and I still love it, I was 13 years-old and Misery was the first book I've read, I stayed up all that night reading it, got in trouble the next morning, was too tired to get up for school “but I never understood was she always crazy before she met him? are did the craziness come when she kidnapped him.“ 😕
And today in bookish current events... King testifies against his own publishing house to prevent the Simon & Schuster and Penguin House merger. “The more the publishers consolidate, the harder it is for indie publishers to survive," he tweeted.

Playing a game while I was listening today. Ooo this book is one of my favorites!
So, I have read a lot of Stephen King throughout my childhood. But... I like to revisit them. (they remind me of my grandmother - who introduced me to this author and started my love of reading). I am going to revisit this one as my #AudioCommute :)

so-soMisery moves a lot faster than the other Stephen King novel I‘ve read, but that‘s not surprising really, given that it‘s a third of the length and only has two central characters. Unfortunately, despite having a narrower focus, King really doesn‘t flesh out his characters as fully as you‘d hope. Maybe I‘m jaded from reading too many more recent and more intricate thrillers. pickOkay, so this one started a little slow for me and I was wondering how King was going to make the plot line last for 400 pages, but then it picked up and I became engrossed in the story. FYI - there is gore in this one for anyone who doesn‘t do gore. #teamslaughter #scarathlon
I‘ve been having nausea problems recently and the pee and mop water drinking is really grossing me out! Should I continue or save it for another time? Is it more gross out horror or psychological? @BarbaraBB I know you read this fairly recently.
pickOnly good ol‘ Uncle Stevie could write a book with only two characters and it be based in one house, and still make it horrifically gripping. I thought I knew crazy - but then I was introduced to Annie Wilkes. Yikes! I actually had to glance down at my legs whilst reading, just to make sure they were still there. I‘ve read a handful of King books, and this fares as probably my second favourite. (After IT, of course). Expectedly amazing.

pickWow. This book was so good! Propulsive, but a slow build too. Once I started reading, I didn‘t want to put it down. I‘m making my way through a variety of Stephen King books and this is my favorite so far, for sure. Even though I haven‘t seen the movie yet, I pictured Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes the whole time I was reading it. Great thriller. 5⭐️
Been waiting a very long time to find and buy this US Paperback version of my one number favourite SK novel. It‘s the First Signet Printing June 1988. I love the Limited Edition Cover of Misery‘s Return and hilarious that the 'hero' bears a very uncanny resemblance to SK. I can only dream of finding and owning his Secretary of Dreams Vol 1 & 2 and my SK Library is complete
pickA suspenseful engrossing novel by Stephen King that kept me guessing until the end. There is nothing supernatural. It is simply about the darkest and most nightmarish aspects of the human constitution. It's a very closely centred novel, focusing nearly entirely on one room of a house and two characters, yet the undeniable malice lurking behind even the most innocuous of pages ensures that it never becomes tedious or boring.
pickMy first time reading this classic and it did not disappoint! Some twists and turns had me actually gasping or yelling “no!” out loud. I got a little bored when I had to read parts of the protagonist‘s novel and it took a bit for me to really get into the book, but the parts with Paul and Annie were captivating and I couldn‘t put the book down in the second half.

pickI really did enjoy this book when Annie was around and the parts that were really intense or just crazy. But the parts he wrote of the book Misery or sometimes when he was just thinking in his head, drowned on and on. I feel like some of it could have been cut to make it better and more fast paced. All in all, I liked the book and gave it a 4⭐
pickI‘m glad I finally read this classic Stephen King novel! I really loved the tension in this book and was on the edge of my seat whenever Annie was around, but reading the chapters of “Misery‘s Return” ruined that tension and took me out of the story. I can see why Paul didn‘t want to continue writing the series! 4⭐️
pickWhat an absolutely savage story. Annie Wilkes is the stuff of nightmares.
Imagine being in a car accident and instead of waking up in a hospital you wake up in the house of your ‘number one fan‘ who also happens to be a serial killing nurse/nutter.
I‘m looking forward to watching Kathy Bates play Wilkes in the adaptation - I have a feeling I won‘t be disappointed!
pickThis is my second Stephen King book and it‘s fantastic. Misery follows author Paul Sheldon who finds himself in Annie Wilkes house. She refuses to let Paul go causing a series of terrifying events. The characters are so well written that without realizing you are already part of the story. The book had me completely on edge all the time and it‘s now one of my favorite books. Stephen King is a great author and this book is just amazing :)
My BFF gave me this blanket! I love it. She gets me!
1. The Babadook was probably the scariest, though there are plenty of contenders.
2. I was WAY too young when I saw one of the old black and white King Kong movies. I had nightmares for weeks. Course now I‘m a huge fan of Kaiju (big monster) films... 😅🤣
3. Tagged! There are plenty of King books I haven‘t read yet, but this one has been overlooked in favor of others many, many times.
