A fox learned to speak human and writes us a letter to let us know what destructive dicks we are.... 🦊 what does the fox say? A lot...❤️

I read this little book today, and although it's short, it definitely packs a punch. I picked it to fulfill a prompt, and I'm definitely glad I did. #BookRiotReadHarderChallenge2019: a book in which an animal or inanimate object is a point-of-view character
YASS March was a significant improvement on Feb! Found my five star zone twice, stayed on track with #readharder2019 , read some quality work related reads, #indiebuddyreads was back on track after my disagreeable relationship with our Feb picks, and Tournament of Books delivered some lols. Fox 8, and The Arsonist were stars.
Oh George Saunders I love you so. This tiny book packs an emotional punch. He always manages to make me laugh and then surprises me with a somber nugget of truth. This little parable tells of the impact humans have on the environment and reminds us that it matters how we treat our fellow creatures on the planet.
Fox 8 is a modern fable told from the perspective of an endearing fox. Without moralizing, this short story (in a small book) makes us think about our environment, politics, immigration and how we treat each other. Humorous and bittersweet, I recommend ‘Fox 8‘ in book format in order to see the lovely illustrations and more importantly, how the words are spelled. 🦊 ❤️
Fox 8 is truly, a story of our time, and Saunders is at his absolute finest here. Fox 8 is a fable of the cruelty of humankind. In it, we are exceptional, creative, and powerful. But we are also, egotistic, selfish, unthinking, and cruel. It is a timely reminder that we are not all that inhabit this earth. Saunders writes with both humour and tenderness, constructing a story that is as confronting as it is entertaining.
This story! It‘s wonderful- funny, happy, sad (I *may* have teared up), and we see from a fox‘s perspective how we humans can be super cool and also how we can be massive tools. The takeaway is simple: be nice! Thank you so much @EmilyM for giving me this lovely short story!
Having lost his home to a mall, Fox 8 writes a heartfelt plea to Yumans. No, that wasn‘t an error. Ever curious Fox 8 learned English by peeking in the window of a Yuman family observing their home life and its similarities to fox life. His world is upturned when he witnesses the horrors of Yuman progress and so begins his cause. Adorable simple line drawings by Cardinal enhance the text. You will cheer for Fox 8.
So, I plan to do a bit of reading this weekend...
Hooray for #24in48, the one weekend a year that I have all to myself! Well, ideally. It hasn‘t happened yet...but I still have hope!
I have a nice mix of fiction & non-fiction, engrossing books & short books, and even a play. Yay! 🥳
Took a few minutes to finish this one today. A tiny book, really a bound short story. About 40 pages. Some have called it a novella. It is not. Cute and dark, a modern fable. The book is written by Fox 8 himself — a fox who can speak, read, and write “Yooman,” so it‘s almost written in dialect with a lot of phonetic spellings to translate. It was on the indie bestsellers lists for a while. Though part of me wants to stock it in the kids‘ section.
A dark, cute and funny (short) tale about the good side of humans and wretched side as well. Anything with foxes on the cover or in the story line, I‘m sold! The day dreaming Fox 8 and I could be besties for sure! Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Down side is I am having hip replacement surgery the end of the month but happy news is while I‘m off work due to limited mobility and post op I can read, read, read! Boo hip .. YAY books! 😊
A sad, funny little tale, yet so hopeful. Told from Fox 8‘s point of view, I quickly embraced his ‘interesting‘ spelling, and loved his innocent voice. The simple illustrations are lovely, and the ending was perfect. Also..... #humanssuck #yumanssuk 🦊💕
Sweet, sad, and short. Will totally make you want to set up fox sanctuaries. Or maybe try to pass off a baby fox as a puppy so that the Hubs won't be all "no, you cannot adopt a wild animal just because you read a book about a cute, clever fox who learns how to speak Yuman. That's not how reality works." Sigh.
I can‘t believe I dropped $18 on this tiny thing! I love supporting Indie Bookstores but at what cost? Luckily my friend told me of a used bookstore near my house so I‘ll probably be frequenting there for books instead of dropping my whole paycheck at B&N and Indie Bookstores. Although I shouldn‘t be buying new books anyway, I have plenty to read!

This is so short that I feel guilty including it as part of my #24B42019 readathon, but it is a separate book, so I did. I liked it but it took me a minute to get past the deliberate misspellings. The story is told by a fox who has learned to speak Yuman (human) but hasn‘t learned to spell. It‘s touching and sad.
I think my expectations for this book were a little too high and that‘s why it fell short for me. I was really hoping for similar vibes to Everyone‘s a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too. It was definitely cute and I really appreciated the touches the author did to make it more wholesome like the grammar and spelling errors. But in the end, it wasn‘t what I wanted. I did enjoy the comments on human impacts on the environment though!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Saunders‘s clever prose paired with Cardinal‘s elegant illustrations is quite a treat. Fox 8 is an adorably optimistic and naive little soul. He‘s eager to dream and learn even after a shocking experience with the “Yumans” he admired and hoped to mimic. This is a delightful little tale, but also a painful reminder that humans often suck. 🦊
I have sacrificed the body half of the #Lush Santa Bath Bomb (thanks again @Booksnchill !!) to the steaming hot bathtub. The bright red is a little disconcerting 🔪😆, but pairs very festively with my obnoxiously green nails. ❤️💚 Super excited to finally read this short story!
Now that finals are over, I can ignore everything about school and read. Today‘s the first day of the Christmas at Hogwarts Magical Readathon. Here‘s my tbr; anyone else going to do it this week? It‘s hosted G at Book Roast on Booktube.

“Why did the Curator do it so rong, making the groop with the gratest skils the meenest?”
Saunders has done it all, this time writing a short story from the perspective (and poor spelling) of a fox.
This brief fable is a funny, sad and ultimately hopeful meditation on humans and their interactions with the natural world.
I was not prepared for how touched I would be by the final pages.
What a wonderful little book! I recommend immersion-reading it so you can get the full effect— 🎧having the author himself read it to you, in perfect character, while following along in the book so you can appreciate the charming illustrations & intentional misspellings (as the book is written by a fox, he doesn‘t have perfect spelling skills. That would be unrealistic.😝) It actually made me laugh out loud with delight. One sad part though. ⭐️x5!
I was supposed to be shopping for a NYE outfit, but I loathe clothes shopping and ended up with goodies from Lush and Parnassus instead. 🤷🏼♀️ #noregrets
Anyone read this Saunders story? Thoughts?
