What a cute and sweet story about Hazel and Mari who fall in love during a time where their love was not recognized or allowed. Separated when they were going, these two women reunite as grandmothers and it is super sweet to watch/read.

The characters were not endearing and other than they were going through a hard time we not relatable. There was not a lot of environmental descriptions and far to much pity partying.

Long book, long review.
Glad to be done with it.

CorLie In order to get through it, I listened to parts on audiobook. The narrator exacerbates all of the problems with the written version. 1w

Long day, long week, not over yet... Apparently this qualifies as a book by or about someone who identifies as neurodiverse for #readharder2019 so here we are!

khooliha Earlier I re-lived you saying "oh no, my cactus" so this is wholly appropriate 1w
holarosarita @khooliha It actually is a great big saguaro this time! 1w
khooliha @holarosarita I hope very much that it isn't killed by pointless ghosts! 1w

This was a slow burner horror but boy, when it got going it was full of a menacing dread that won‘t let go. I‘ve always thought I‘d make a good hermit, as long as I had all my books & music but being a hermit in the arctic is another animal entirely. Especially if you have the misfortune of being left in a bay haunted by a seriously pissed off ghost! #ReadHarder2019 #AnEpistolaryNovel #Pop19 #SetInScandinavia #SomethingWickedFall

BekahB Yesssss! I love this book so much. I read this all in one night because I couldn‘t put it down. And then of course I couldn‘t sleep after finishing it. The perfect build of dread. 2w
Cathythoughts Nice review 👍🏻 really liked this one too 2w
marleed I can‘t wait to read this having just given Recursion 5*. I have it on hold at the library and my timing should be perfect for October! 2w

Lizpixie @marleed are you thinking of the Blake Crouch novel? This has the same title but is completely different, but just as good!👍 2w
marleed Oh my gosh, I was. But now I‘ve stacked this one too! Maybe I can double my Dark Matter for October! 2w
ImperfectCJ I've only known a few people who've read this one! I really enjoyed it and also Thin Air by the same author. My kids like Paver's middle-grade Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, too. 2w
Tamra I really liked it too! 👍🏾 2w

August was all about getting through as many Booker Longlisters as I could manage and I surprised myself by how enjoyable this has been. I liked them all with the possible exception of the Obioma, however my top read for the month was the tagged book which reminds me I need non-fiction occasionally:)
September it is going to be all about the Atwood and playing catch-up on #Readharder2019

Cathythoughts I have that tagged book on kindle, but I‘m avoiding it... sounds good , must read soon 3w
Tamra I‘m anxious to read 3w

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was predisposed to enjoy this one and it was everything I had hoped for. I knew this story from listening to a podcast called “The Dropout”. However to read the story told in all its excruciating detail from the WSJ investigative reporter John Carreyrou was still riveting. Just walk away Walgreens ! I cannot wait for the film version.

Redheadrambles @BarbaraBB it‘s a good podcast I think, it‘s always good to hear people‘s voices and I think it helped me solidify who was who in the book. 3w
Cathythoughts Good to know. I‘ll have a listen to the podcast first 👍🏻 3w

They Called Us Enemy | George Takei, Justin Eisinger, Steven Scott

They Called Us Enemy is a compelling memoir of a childhood in Japanese American Internment Camps. This graphic novel is an important contribution to the literature about this shameful part of history, which is far too often excluded from the narrative of history. Takei‘s story, is both deeply personal, and broadly representative. It‘s a story that‘s told with sensitivity, and in an especially affecting way. A sad, but rewarding read.

Loved this. Really interesting retellings of Maori myths and legends. I highly recommend it.
