And December was the month I found my reading rhythm again, and managed not to leave five books from #readharder2019 until the 18th. So many standouts this month, only Trust Exercise let me down.

BookishMarginalia I hated Trust Exercise and bailed halfway through 3y
BarbaraBB Some great reads to find your rhythm again! 3y

Finished 2019s #ReadHarder challenge. A few books that I really loved (Binti, Punakau), a lot that I liked and otherwise never would have read. A few that is always meant to read and finally did... And yes, a few klunkers.

Will try again in 2020!!!

Since the year is almost over I figured I should post my 2019 #ReadHarder list. I actually finished it this summer (before I joined Litsy) - no putting it off until the very end for me this year! There are some great books on this list, a couple of duds, and a lot in between. The tagged book was probably my favorite. #ReadHarder2019

effani The actual prompts are hard to read on this graphic, but they're at https://bookriot.com/2018/12/12/2019-read-harder-challenge/ if anyone is curious. 3y
sprainedbrain Great job! Wish I had finished one over the summer, but I‘m still working on finishing two challenges. 😂 3y
effani @sprainedbrain You can do it! My secret is to just do one challenge. 😂 3y

It‘s the final #readharder2019 hurdle! A book by a woman and/or an AOC that won a literary award in 2018 (The Edgar Award)

charl08 Great book! 3y

AceOnRoam The last one? 3y
ClairesReads @AceOnRoam one more after this- the book that won a prize in 2018 by a woman or AOC... I‘m going for 3y
AceOnRoam Good choice, then you can read the sequel 😊 I look forward to your review. 3y

The Mere Wife: A Novel | Maria Dahvana Headley

Pickpick

an exquisitely told, brutal revisioning of Beowulf, set in modern, Stepford-like suburbia. It is a story of mothers and sons, the equal intensity and distance of that bond. Set against the backdrop of an unnamed war, this is a story about the distancing of domestic life from global crisis, and what happens when those two worlds intersect. It‘s a story of the wild and the tamed. Headley asks her reader big questions about the impact of othering.

Here is my month in books. A not entirely satisfying collection but two books did stand out : Catch and Kill is as good as everyone is saying and Kevin Wilson is a new author to me that I want to read more from. On the “ticking off” on achievements front I have finally completed the Booker longlist novels and have one book remaining for #Readharder2019 ! Woohoo, it might nearly be time to read what I want ;)

A very loose interpretation of “a book of mythology” #readharder2019
