Her Silhouette, Drawn in Water
Her Silhouette, Drawn in Water | Vylar Kaftan

"Tense and gripping."—Ann Leckie "A moving tribute to the power within us all."—Nancy Kress All Bee has ever known is darkness. She doesn’t remember the crime she committed that landed her in the cold, twisting caverns of the prison planet Colel-Cab with only fellow prisoner Chela for company. Chela says that they’re telepaths and mass-murderers; that they belong here, too dangerous to ever be free. Bee has no reason to doubt her—until she hears the voice of another telepath, one who has answers, and can open her eyes to an entirely different truth. Tor short fiction books are my go-to if I need something to read between other books.
Today I picked up Her Silhouette, Drawn in Water which was a good story. It was not surprising that something at the start was very wrong. The main character is trapped on an alien planet in a endless cave. When she finds a window, the story unfolds. That's all I can tell.

Quite an interesting sci-fi novella. Well-constructed, the plot is interesting and engaging. We follow Bee, a telepath, imprisoned in a labyrinthic cave for a crime she doesn't remember having committed, actually she doesn't remember much about her life beforehand. I really liked the twist at the end. A solid 3.5/5 for me.

Received to review from Tor!

This went wholly different places than I expected, though not in a way that could really be foreshadowed. It was okay, but I wasn't in love with it; I did enjoy that it is clearly, unapologetically queer, with Latinx main characters.

Another nice TOR publishing novella. It's initial description is a bit deceptive to what the setting really ends up being. I figured it out pretty quickly. Still, a good quick read.
