This is great - a crime novel from the perspective of a Black working-class barrister.

Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover Ooh I‘m adding this for a future #Blackoweenathon TBR. Thanks for sharing! ☺️ 6mo
charl08 @Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover I'd love to know what you think. I only came across it because it's part of Bernadine Evaristo's series of republished Black British authors who she felt had unjustly gone out of print. 6mo

Pickpick

First book read for #scarathlon! Black cat pictured bc spooky… but that‘s the only reason.
Two ex-cons investigate their sons‘ deaths. Their sons happen to be gay, and there are some difficult scenes as the fathers deal with their own anti-gay sentiment and that of others. I like how Cosby writes these men - they are flawed, interesting and believable - and his books are action-packed. I liked Blacktop Wasteland slightly more than this one. ⬇️

Larkken This book is this month‘s #doublespin, and I spend 8 hrs listening to it and will count it for a few readathons #screamathon #littenlisten #readlikehellathon #spookoweenreadathon #blackoweenathon #murdertheyreadathon #panspookathon #trickortreadathon #wickedathon 3y

I‘ve taking part in the #5daysofspookyandbookishtags over on Instagram and my blog for #blackoweenathon. Today‘s prompt was Hocus Pocus and I wrote about why I‘d want to go trick-or-treating with Mary Shelley and Kiersten White. Here‘s the link if you‘re curious: https://readingstewardess.wordpress.com/2020/10/08/hocus-pocus-tag/

There are a ton of readathons going on in October and for #scarathlon2020 we wanted to make sure everyone could gain some extra points by participating in whichever readathons fit into their schedule. If you want to take part in multiple, that‘s perfect! More points for your team! We‘ll try to put together a calendar closer to the start of the month so everyone can plan! In the meantime, if you know of any readathons please post below!

Patchshank I haven't seen any readathons posted. I would love to sign up for at least one. 4y
LibrarianRyan While You are clarifying: 2 more questions: “directly related to Halloween“. How is this gaged? Halloween setting, in the title, etc. Or does its about standard Halloween type monsters like witches work.

Question 2: the categories are Mystery/thriller and Monster/Gore. Where would something like a haunted house fall? What distances the two.
4y
TEArificbooks Another question: book related to your theme and books related to Halloween. If we read a book that is Halloween related and fits your team theme do we stack the points so 40 points for the one book? 4y

StayCurious @LibrarianRyan for the haunted house if it‘s more of a paranormal vibe it would fit into monster/gore. But if it‘s a creepy house setting, like Turn of the Key, or Lock Every Door it‘s more related to mystery suspense... because it‘s creepy people not ghosts. I‘d say every reader should use their judgement since we won‘t check into every book. 4y
StayCurious @LibrarianRyan directly related to Halloween, means that the book discusses Halloween, has the title in the cover, or has a scene during Halloween night. The whole book doesn‘t have to take place around Halloween for it to qualify, but it does have to be mentioned. 4y
StayCurious @mdm139 Last year we just did whichever point value was highest. So if I read a mystery about Halloween, then we did Points for Halloween since it was higher. 4y
StayCurious @Patchshank check out the list on @Clwojick post - some of those might interest you☺️ 4y
Patchshank Ooooh...ok thank you @StayCurious 4y
