This was a good fairy tale, and I enjoyed reading it, but never felt like I fully connected with it. Like, the writing was really good (Beagle can be very poetic at times but very humorous at other moments), but I never quite connected with the characters. Still a pick! Still a fun read! I just think it‘s a book I would‘ve enjoyed more when I was younger.
Second #AuldLangSpine book from @BookmarkTavern complete!

Dentist appointment done and killing time until my haircut. Another #AuldLangSpine title, a caramel brûlée latte, and a tomato mozzarella sandwich.

The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, follows the journey of a unicorn who believes she is the last of her kind. She embarks on a quest to find other unicorns, encountering a cast of colorful characters along the way. Throughout her journey, the unicorn faces challenges that test her strength and courage, ultimately leading to a confrontation with the Red Bull, a powerful creature that is responsible for the disappearance of the other unicorns. ⬇️

1 The Last Unicorn also my favorite movie 🦄

Good morning, Littens!
I‘m revisiting a childhood favourite.
“I‘ll turn you into a bad poet with dreams.” 🤣

“Real magic can never be made by offering up someone else‘s liver. You must tear out your own, and not expect to get it back.”
Hey, Litsy! I know it‘s been literal years, but I just wanted to say that revisiting this book is an absolute joy!

Happy National Unicorn Day! 🦄 (HP tattoo was pre-terf J.K. knowledge. #regrets)

The tone of this novel is a cross between The Chronicles of Prydain and Howl's Moving Castle, with maybe a hint of Tiffany Aching, but it doesn't hit me like those do. The tale is enjoyable, but the characters are a bit too changeable for me. I like characters that change over time, but these do less evolving and more flip-flopping. Some scenes are excellent, like Mommy Fortuna's Midnight Carnival, and really make me wish I liked this book more.

A wee spider checked out my journal, my elder kid baked cookies, and I audiocooked dinner with the tagged book. I'm still not sure how I feel about this book, but it's enjoyable enough so far.

1. Not often, but occasionally I will.
2. Loved this story. 🦄
#Two4Tuesday

I don‘t think this one quite lived up to the hype for me, but I enjoyed it. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had read it as a kid, but better late than never, right?

I remember, as a kid, taking the movie out from the library repeatedly. I never got more than 15-20 minutes in because I'd start sobbing at the idea of the last, lonely unicorn. My mom finally told me I wasn't allowed to borrow it anymore. 🙃
I didn't realize when I borrowed the book that it was the graphic novel, but in the end I'm so glad. Beautiful artwork to tell a beautiful tale.
And this was my #BookSpin for this month! @TheAromaofBooks

Darn cats. Even the talking ones are incredibly obstinate.

I ordered this book (specifically the 40th anniversary edition) from eBay for my daughter's birthday recently. The seller sent me the current edition I could have bought for cheaper on Amazon. 😡 Do any of you wonderful Littens know where I could get my hands on this version, for a reasonable price? I've been Googling and trolling eBay for a month now, but I can't find it. My daughter is a super fan and I would really love to get this for her. TIA

Got my #BookSpinBingo with the tagged! This tale knows itself, showing consciousness of fantasy tropes while telling a fresh (and poignant) story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I usually set goals in numbers of books, but i think that this time, I'll aim for 1,250 pages. I have a few longer books i want to read and of i can get through one of them, I'll be happy

Already in love. If the rest of the book continues like this, it'll be an easy favorite

Just finished my #booked2020 Animal on the Cover. It also got me the first 3 hours for the #booklyreadathon #stayathomereadathon

Next up! My book with an animal on the cover for #Booked2020

1. Hearts of Oak by Eddie Robson
2. Tagged book. I read it a couple of months before discovering Tolkien.
3. Stephen Fry. I could listen to him read a phone book.

My fourth book of the day for #24in48 #readathon! I was obsessed with the movie as a kid, but have somehow never read the book.

Day 6: #WarmColors
These are my favorite warm colored covers I own. I just got The BloodPrint two months ago, so I haven‘t read it yet. And The Last Unicorn I have had for a while now but still not read it. I do love the cartoon though, that‘s actually how my love originally came about for the story. My mother introduced me (and my sisters) to it. Hopefully I will get around to reading it soon.

"Things must happen when it is time for them to happen. Quests may not simply be abandoned; prophecies may not be left to rot like unpicked fruit; unicorns may go unrescued for a very long time, but not forever. The happy ending cannot come in the middle of the story."

Finally reading this classic. This is such a fun story and it has magician named Schmendrick, which is outlandishly awesome!

Today I have more #Recommendsday #booktomovie favorites. It doesn‘t have to be Wednesday does it? 😉 These are my favorite children‘s adaptations.

My extremely old ratty tatty copy of the last unicorn. It was old and tattered when I purchased it 15 years ago. I don‘t read a lot of pure fantasy preferring PNR and urban fantasy but I really loved this story.

😏 This got a resounding “no” from both kids as a read aloud after I read the blurb. I‘m not surprised really because fantasy isn‘t something they typically go for, but I thought I‘d try since people seem to love it. However, son has expressed willingness to try HP, so there‘s that!

I‘m not sure how many times I‘ve read this old favorite. I love it every single time. This was the book I chose for my long term postal bookclub. In reading through the notebook I was surprised how many hadn‘t heard of the book or movie! I always assumed it was just as well known as LOTR or Harry Potter! In my family it‘s as loved as The Wizard of Oz!
I‘m glad to have been able to share it with so many, and happy most enjoyed reading it!

My #OwlPost book has returned home! It‘s been over a year (2 years? Help me out, I don‘t remember...) and it has traveled the country. I‘m going to reread it, starting tonight, before I read the journal with all of your notes. This postal bookclub has been so much fun.
Holly, thank you for including D‘Arc and the bookmarks 😊. I hope you‘ve gotten great news.
I hope all of the books are accounted for and almost home!

One of my favorite movies as a kid and definitely a book I will always love! A bittersweet tale that is just so lush and beautiful. My first (re)read of the year.

If all fantasy were like this book, it would be my jam. I loved this one!! Had so many messages and it was just so much fun! The characters were great! And, a talking cat is right up my alley 4🦄
