Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft: Volume 1
Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft: Volume 1 | Joe Hill
Special bundled edition -- 6 issues for the price of 5! Acclaimed suspense novelist and New York Times best-selling author Joe Hill (Heart-Shaped Box) creates an all-new 6 issue story of dark fantasy and wonder: Locke & Key. Written by Hill and featuring astounding artwork from Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them... and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all...

This series is the result of Stephen King's son rummaging through his father's garbage for scraps of discarded ideas. Total, utter nonsensical trash. The ideas presented in just a handful of issues are: serial killer, ghost kid, trapped in painting lady, Samara from The Ring, haunted house with magical keys. The lack of focus on any one of these ideas shows Hill's utter lack of understanding of horror, and more offensively, story-telling.

JessicaThunstromNelson I did read the first single issue on Comixology forever ago, but this is my first collected arc, I think. Also, I don't have the ones that follow, so I've been hanging on to this for awhile, but I give up waiting. 8mo

This was a good start to a series. Not too much scary stuff happened but it was pretty violent! The art is just so lovely and I really can‘t wait to see what‘s in store at this house!

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'm giving this a pick, because I really wanted to like it and I did, but I don't think I am in the proper state of mind to actually really enjoy it. There were some particular scenes of violence that triggered some of my own personal issues, which normally doesn't happen. I mean I just finished 28 Days Later and that was plenty violent and bloody.

I'm going to skip reading the rest of the series until I'm feeling better.

[DELETED] 3803335244 I‘m sorry you went through violence in your life. 💔 2y

Hah, managed to squeeze another book into 2017 after all. 😂 I loved this first book in the series and can‘t wait to continue. Great art and a suspenseful storyline. Love it!

Here's a better look at the Cry Me A River gose I bought because the bottle reminded me of Dodge from LOCKE & KEY. The back reads:

Hear my cries through the mist, gentle sailor, that your skiff may be tethered unto. Though the moonlight is pale, and I paler, in the black river, brack with my tears, let my song reach your ears. Let me reach my availer, that tomorrow the cries are for you.

(I... think you're meant to be drunk when you read that.)

TricksyTails 😂 Thank you for the up-close photo. Sigh. It sure is pretty. 😍 2y

What a great story. Just a warning: The beginning is a bit hard to get through, so if you've had a recent loss I wouldn't read this. The story eventually takes you to a house that has mysterious keys and a strange voice. Can't wait to read the next one. Love Joe Hill and loved the art.

GypsyKat The beginning is traumatic, but it‘s such a fantastic series! So well done! 2y

I didn't get it and I really wish I did. I didn't dislike it but I just wasn't really "into" it. I'm not sure if it's just not being used to graphic novels and needing to adjust my expectations to the format. Anyways I have the second one so I'll try it out and see. If it's still a meh I may have to try a different graphic novel and see how I feel.

Retroprincess I felt the same way... Figured the horror graphic novels may not be my thing. But I loved Saga. And I am enjoying The Wicked and the Divine and Y the last man. 2y
danibolahood Thanks @Retroprincess for the recommendations. I'm glad I'm not alone because I really felt like I was missing something. I have already looked up Saga. Is that... Is that an alien baby breast feeding on the cover? Because now I kinda feel like I have to read it lol. 2y
Retroprincess Oh yeah, that is just the beginning! 😀 2y

Do you like graphic novels? Yes. Do you enjoy horror on occasion (especially in October)? Yes. Do you appreciate the writing of Joe Hill? I‘d heard good things about him but had never read anything of his until this book—I will be reading the other volumes in this series and look forward to reading his other works. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I may have found a new method for staying awake the rest of the night (currently 12:30am here). 😳 That was a disturbing but well-told story, and the art is . . . well, I'm really not sure how to describe such gruesome work, but the text and art complement each other perfectly. Thankfully, the pets are keeping me company, and I might just go ahead and download the next volume.

TamaraH71 Locke & Key are exclusively daytime reads. To me they get seriously disturbing as the story unfolds. The artwork is amazing (and creepy)! 3y
Zelma This book certainly doesn't lead up the scary stuff slowly. The opening scene is awful (imagery and plot-wise). Great books but definitely not bedtime reading for me. 3y
