I Voted: Making a Choice Makes a Difference | Mark Shulman
10 posts
With the next presidential election upon us, this witty, nonpartisan book will help explain the concept of voting to the youngest readers. I Voted explains the concept of choosing, individually, and as a group, from making a simple choice: "Which do you like better, apples or oranges?", to selecting a class pet, to even more complicated decisions, like electing community representatives. You may not always get want you want, but there are strategies to better your odds! Serge Bloch's effortless and charming illustrations paired with Mark Shulman's funny and timely text create a perfect resource for discussing current events with your children. Backmatter includes information about the United States electoral process. Selected for the CBC Champions of Change Showcase A Junior Library Guild Selection!

Last chance to vote, folks! I will be posting the results in 24(ish) hours.

Sorry for the tag if you've already voted, but it's anonymous so I can't tell!

PuddleJumper I've just started reading the Feb pick 🤣 14mo
AbigailJaneBlog @PuddleJumper aha, I think you'll enjoy it! The main point is to try new queer books so it doesn't really matter when you read them! 14mo

Posting this in the hopes that #auldlangspine isn't full for early sign up yet. I early voted a few weeks ago, and since there's going to be a city council run-off I'll be voting again in a couple of weeks.

Remember to check on local election results to see if there's a run-off. Turn out for those elections can be very low, but they can have a huge impact on your community.

AmyG They can! My husband once ran for mayor and won by 13 votes. Every vote counts! 1y

#notbookrelated but I wanted to share a pic of me and my daughter, Pamela, who voted for the first time today. She‘s glad to be old enough to vote now! I‘m very proud of her!

tpixie Congrats! Great job! 🇺🇸 1y
Texreader That‘s wonderful!! I took my daughter for her first time to vote last week. I loved the cheers she got 1y
Bren912 I have to say I worked the polls today and took pics of all the kids first time with their parents. Honestly: it brought tears to my eyes!!! Voting is such an honor and privilege—good job mama!! 1y

Leftcoastzen Great photo! Great day! 1y
SamAnne Seeing all these Litten photos of going to the actual polls is making me nostalgic for the days when Oregon and Washington had actual polls, not mail in ballots. Although mail in ballots are so much preferable, as is early voting. More accessible to more people. But it doesn't have the same community feel! 1y

I honestly have no idea what half of those proposed amendments meant 🫢😂 BUT, I voted! Now to *try* to ignore CNN blaring from the kitchen (silly hubby needs the play by play 😳). @monalyisha will also send you an e-mail now!

AmyG Hahahaha, I also need a play by play. I am a glutton for punishment. 1y
Susanita I‘ll sit here watching anything else as long as possible, then retire to the bedroom when hubby gets home and turns on the faux channel. 1y
CBee @AmyG ohhhhhh friend…. I admire it, but I just can‘t do it 😂😂 1y

CBee @Susanita I feel that on a deep level 🙌🏻🙌🏻 1y
KathyWheeler I read somewhere that Alabama has the worst constitution, not just in the US, but in the world. I was confused about those amendments too. 1y
CBee @KathyWheeler I can‘t say that I‘m surprised. I‘m always partially confused by the amendments - it‘s always about half that I understand and half that I don‘t 🤷‍♀️ 1y
KathyWheeler @CBee Yeah. I just always pray that my vote means what I think it means with those. 1y
CBee @KathyWheeler same here 😊 1y
JenniferEgnor I think the way they‘re written is meant to confuse voters. 1y
CBee @JenniferEgnor I think that is definitely a possibility! 🤦‍♀️ 1y
