This book is unique because I didn't cry while reading it, but I started crying later when I was thinking about it. It's a beautifully done magical realism about hard choices made in circumstances you didn't ask for. You're forced to think about what matters and who your village is. I've also never read such a vivid post-apocalyptic world.

When I checked this book out, the librarian said, "Where did you find that? I can't believe we have a copy in!" Then she realized it was my hold I'd gotten from the holds shelf. ? Two chapters in and I can see why my library has over 20 copies in circulation with a 10+ week wait on holds. I'm immediately hooked!

This is just such a haunting story of how the end of times could/will happen. It‘s beautiful and got so fraught at one point I couldn‘t read it before bed because my dreams were stressing me awake. A perfect book to read in April for Earth Day which we should honour on all of our days 🌎

The tale of one woman‘s life starting from birth. Set in Florida where hurricanes have reclaimed so much, not just the land but the lives of loved ones. This is an incredible believable look at climate change.
I will anticipate more from this author as Good Morning, Midnight was also great.

I think this is my first real climate change fiction and it's blown me away to be honest. This book felt so real that every blow of the wind, every beat of the sun, has confused me. My reality has mixed with this reading experience and now I'm so element aware I'm on the verge on turning into a prepper.

This version of end of the world as we know it is so female and I love it. I watched this from the pages, this is so adaptable for screen.

This was the most horrific book I‘ve read in a while. The first 100 pages just details this super hurricane that obliterates this family living in a podunk town in Florida. A woman gives birth during that hurricane and names the baby after the hurricane, Wanda. My stomach was in my throat those 100 pages. We follow Wanda as she grows up and learns to survive a Florida who has run out of time due to climate change. This book was full of love 👇🏼

My book club picked this for September and it's fantastic. It's basically a post apocalyptic climate disaster set in Florida. Definitely recommend.

Hot take incoming... This book has absolutely no plot. It's just about a girl in a world that is ravished by hurricanes and natural disasters. I had absolutely no emotions what so ever. I had no real connection to the characters, so I never felt anything for them. It was just surviving, repetitively. This book was so boring. It took me forever to get through because it was soo boring. Just describing scenery over and over again the whole book. 2/5

Despite it‘s frightening and all too possible premise, this was a lovely book. It was an impulse airport buy, and it kept me riveted on the long flight. (The best thing about being held captive in a metal tube is not having one iota of guilt about reading for hours. 😁🤓📖.)

What is magic but science not yet explained?

Coming of age, nature writing, and a look into what the future holds for our warming planet. A hurricane hits Florida and things are rapidly changing.

Happening over the course of Wanda‘s lifetime, I found the acceleration in climate disasters and collapse of society a bit of a stretch to happen so quickly, but believable otherwise!

This is a better written, post Apocalypticish version of Where the Crawdads Sing. 4⭐️

Maybe don't read this at a moment of existential despair brought on by human-caused climate change we're not doing enough to minimize. Outside of that though, a haunting story that hits hard when we consider the effort and energy we pour into our current lifestyles. We weren't meant to live this way but sadly, only devastating crises will wake us up.

The story is rich in description and beautiful setting, but it slows the pace down.

I enjoyed this very much. It‘s bleak at times, and if you believe in climate change (as I do, and don‘t particularly understand why anyone wouldn‘t 🤦‍♀️), you‘ll recognize that the events of this book could potentially happen if things don‘t change. It‘s scary, but also a beautiful story about resilience, survival, and how we go on after suffering such tremendous loss. Highly recommend!

I started this while in Florida earlier this week, which heightened my atmospheric reading experience. I was enraptured by the first section, but the story slowed down for me after that and I didn‘t feel as connected to the characters. The poignant exploration of the give and take, beauty and destruction, and inevitable change of nature and life resonated the most with me.

I love a book that explores climate change, but although that is the backdrop of the dystopian setting, this book has a lot to say about survival, adaptation, and human relationships.

It wasn't perfect, but it was still a great read. And I might be in the minority but I enjoyed the magical realism mixed in.

I've been listening to the tagged book while working today and it's PHENOMENAL! Think 'Station Eleven' meets 'Where the Crawdads Sing'. Crumpet and Pippin are hanging out in the studio with me being exceptionally cute and distracting.

Atmospheric writing captures the dystopian setting of flooded Florida amidst climate change. A good survivalist story & climate fiction exploration, but the magical realism component just didn't work for me. It felt a extraneous & ineffectively explored.That aside, the writing is good & there is some wonderful exploration of human relationships & the ways in which we adapt. An interesting read & a believable examination of climate change.

Hold on tight if you‘re already panicked about climate change. This story follows Wanda, a young girl, born into the world in the middle of the hurricane that shares her name. Her mother dies giving her life, and as Wanda grows it becomes clear she isn‘t like her peers. She has special, almost magical qualities that she must use to survive as Mother Nature claims Florida back for herself. Wanda has to find her way, in spite of what the storms take

This the second 5 ⭐️ read so far for this month and I just couldn‘t put it down. This book tells the story of Wanda, a girl born during a hurricane and her coming of age. This book was just so beautiful. I‘m definitely glad I read it.

What I most loved about this book was the exploration of Wanda's "gifts". She is truly the light of the dark til take action now, but is also an exploration of the strength that humanity can draw on when faced with catastrophe.

Only a few pages in and I already love this book. #botm

Loved this story. Wanda is born during and named after one of the many hurricanes that keep ravishing Florida. A dystopian story that could have gone too much into climate change and the changes that we see here on Earth as we survive. My #BotM box showed up today! It's my birthday month, so I snagged the tagged book for free. I wasn't mad about any of the main picks, but Lunar Love should at least be a cute, quick read.

First book finished for 2023 and it‘s a five star rating for me. The setting is Florida as the world becomes too familiar with her not conscientious enough of the tenuous life as they one knew it due to climate change. Born during a Hurricane, a girl named Wanda adapts with the change, coming to understand that the world humans built was never sustainable. I highly recommend this book! I drove home a day early from visiting family because we're in a winter storm warning for tomorrow and Tuesday. I listened to the first 4 hours of this audiobook while driving. It's so good!

This story - climate change - scared the crap out of me. Because of that I didn‘t connect with the characters until halfway through. I finally settled down and settled into the would-if‘s and found this story and it‘s characters very compelling.

Oh - and Merry Christmas and the happiest of holidays to everyone!

Libro.fm had this on one of their recommendations lists and I had a credit 😁. We all know how that goes I think.

Climate fiction dystopia is one of my favorite genres these days, and this sits firmly in that category.

I thought the writing was beautiful, the characters impactful, and a really powerful sense of place. There are several big time jumps, which I didn‘t mind but some may find jarring. 👍👍 for me!

Interesting #botm choice. A bit odd, but quietly beautiful. Wanda is born during a hurricane in Florida that changes her family forever. Growing up in the wake of an increasingly dire climate crisis, she sees her home state change a great deal as she learns to live with the rhythms of the Earth.

Phenomenal! I read this entire book in one day. I had such a hard time putting it down. Living in Florida for the past seventeen years really made this book hit home for me, specifically. Brooks-Dalton is extremely skilled at writing humanity into her stories. The characters feel so real and their relationships with one another fill the reader's heart.

Blue box day! Tagged is the number one Indie Next pick so thought it was worth a try. Hope I like it as much as independent booksellers seem to. And I had to add Babel after seeing it receive so much love from my fellow littens. #BOTM

I wasn‘t very excited overall about this month‘s #BOTM selections. This one seemed the most interesting to me, and A Flicker in the Dark was the only #BOTY selection that I either didn‘t have or was interested in.
I‘m hoping for some good ones next month for my birthday month (🤞 How to Sell a Haunted House🤞🤞🤞, Pandora, or Ghost 19 would be great).
