#octphotochallenge Day 2 - Literary best friend. Growing up Josephine Alabrandi was the closest thing I got to a literary best friend (and Ellie from tomorrow when the war began) An Australian teenager with sass that seemed to understand a lot of what I went through as well, it's why Marchetta remains one of my favourite authors to this day.

I'm so intimidated by the size of this book, but it's been on my to-read list for years, so I'm finally taking the plunge and getting into this world of #Murakami Has anyone read this, thoughts?

Onto the last book of this trilogy (or the 6 part series if you look at both trilogy's as a whole) I am sad that I'll be coming to the end of this excellent story, but also excited to see Hobb use her talents and end it in a way I'm sure will be satisfying.

I tried so hard to finish this book! It's not often I stop reading a book (particularly when I buy it new), but I just could not get through this book.
I had high hopes, particularly with the reviews; the fact it was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize; & my love for Indian fiction, but this book did nothing for me. It was a shambles of family drama, that didn't intrigue me at all. Do yourself a favour & read something else like 'A Fine Balance'

JoeStalksBeck That is depressing when that happens 8y

I actually liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. It was a lot of fun diving back into the world of Harry Potter and while there was definitely some flaws in how some of the characters were portrayed (e.g. Ron) it was a great adventure that kept me entertained and drew me straight back into my love of Harry Potter...now to work out how I can see the stage play!

Trav Love the pic! 8y
LauraReads Thaaaanks @Trav I was trying to work out how I can put the entire series into the photo, because I love that box set haha 8y

I've heard mixed reviews about this book, but often enjoy books set in India - particularly around the history of India, so let's see how we go.

I'm a bit disappointed with myself that I missed LoTR day here in Aus, but thankfully it's still the 29th of July in the US, so I'm going to post this anyway.
These versions were my dads from 1966, he loved them as a boy & then I claimed them as my own as a young girl. LoTR will always be my favourite fantasy story, and I will forever be thankful to Tolkien for introducing me to my favourite genre in such an epic way. Long live Lord of the Rings!

Trav I love! I love! 8y

Mehso-so

I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. On one hand I thought it was clever and dealt with an interesting topic in a different way, on the other hand I found it hard to read and can't say the ending left me wanting more or left me satisfied.

LauraReads Looking forward to hearing what you thought about this book @Trav 8y
Trav I'm looking forward to a discussion with you about this book next week! I really ended up disliking this one in the end and finally figured out why after I sat on it for a few days. 8y
MariettaSG I'd really like to know what Trav didn't like it, I certainly did like a lot of aspects about it but really liked others and liked the text as a whole, initially I nearly bailed. 7y

Always love the wisdom and intelligence of Tim Keller. He's taught me a lot over the years 👌

LauraBeth I ❤️ his books 😀 8y
LauraReads They're great aren't they @LauraBeth He does so much research and makes everything so clear 8y
LauraBeth He's one of my favorite pastors. My favorite book of his is The Meaning Of Marriage. I listen to his podcast sermons as well - I love the way he can take a complex theological topic and unpack it so that I can understand it. 8y

Reading this book next for my work book club. I'm excited, any time someone is compared to Margaret Atwood I am going to give them a go.

Trav This is my next read! I've got it ready and waiting on my bedside table. Hope you enjoy it -- I've heard many wonderful things about this one. 8y

I'm not sure how I felt about this book - I've come to the conclusion that I'm not someone who will ever love a book when the protagonist drives me insane. I loved the back stories Diaz provided of the family, I loved the different style of voice the narrator provided, but I could not stand Oscar, he was a snivelling man child that would not stop complaining, and that sure drove me insane.

LauraBeth He reminded me of Ignatius Reilly from A Confederacy Of Dunces. 8y

This book! What a journey! I laughed, I cried, I sobbed! Yanagihara sure knows how to write a tragic tale that draws you in an leaves you devastated, but also slightly uplifted with the story of friendship. Possibly one of the hardest books I've read, but also the best!

Trav Yay! Glad you enjoyed it. This is now going straight to the top of my TBR pile! 8y

This study was great! I did it with a group of girls and we all found it super encouraging and helpful. The studies were well written and encouraged us to do exactly what the title suggest, open our bible and understand why we should do so.

I sound like a broken record when I talk about Robin Hobb, but seriously, this lady can do no harm...in my mind she is queen of fantasy fiction. I got to the end of this book and realised to my surprise that not a lot of 'action' had actually happened but this did not matter at all.

Trav This has been on my TBR list for ages. Might need to bump it up. 8y
LauraReads Have you read The Assassins Apprentice (first book in the Farseer Trilogy) Id definitely recommend doing that series before this one @Trav 8y
Trav @LauraReads Robin Hobb has been on my radar for a while now, I just haven't had a chance to read anything from her. I'll definitely start with that one though -- thanks for the recommendation! 8y
