Atlas Six | Olivie Blake
The much-acclaimed viral sensation from Olivie Blake, The Atlas Six--now newly revised and edited with additional content. - The tag #theatlassix has millions of views on TikTok- A dark academic debut fantasy with an established cult following that reads like The Secret History meets The Umbrella Academy- The first in an explosive trilogy The Alexandrian Society, caretakers of lost knowledge from the greatest civilizations of antiquity, are the foremost secret society of magical academicians in the world. Those who earn a place among the Alexandrians will secure a life of wealth, power, and prestige beyond their wildest dreams, and each decade, only the six most uniquely talented magicians are selected to be considered for initiation. Enter the latest round of six: Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona, unwilling halves of an unfathomable whole, who exert uncanny control over every element of physicality. Reina Mori, a naturalist, who can intuit the language of life itself. Parisa Kamali, a telepath who can traverse the depths of the subconscious, navigating worlds inside the human mind. Callum Nova, an empath easily mistaken for a manipulative illusionist, who can influence the intimate workings of a person's inner self. Finally, there is Tristan Caine, who can see through illusions to a new structure of reality--an ability so rare that neither he nor his peers can fully grasp its implications. When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they will have one year to qualify for initiation, during which time they will be permitted preliminary access to the Society's archives and judged based on their contributions to various subjects of impossibility: time and space, luck and thought, life and death. Five, they are told, will be initiated. One will be eliminated. The six potential initiates will fight to survive the next year of their lives, and if they can prove themselves to be the best among their rivals, most of them will. Most of them. Lethally smart. Filled with a cast of brilliantly realized characters, each entangled with one another in torturously delicious ways, The Atlas Six will grip you by the throat and refuse to let go. Olivie Blake is a mind-blowing talent. -- Chloe Gong, author of NYT Bestselling These Violent Delights The Atlas Six is a fantasy novel that understands that what the people want is more dark academia stories with flawless vibes and aesthetics and hot morally fraudulent characters who are constantly on the verge of either killing each other or fucking each other. Throwback to beginning of October when I started my reread of this book. I listened to the audiobook the first time and wanted to reread in the physical form before I started on the audiobook of the sequel (released at the end of last month). I really enjoyed my reread (even if I took longer than expected), and I made lots of annotations in my paperback copy!

After finishing, I started The Atlas Paradox on audio last night! Anyone else reading?

I did the first 75% of this book on audio and the final in paper. The audiobook narration is excellent and really gives a great impression of all 6 characters. A hyped book but one I really enjoyed and I‘m thrilled I read it as the sequel came out because otherwise that ending would have really annoyed me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is so rare for me to reread a book less than a year after reading it for the first time. But I really loved this book when I read it at the beginning of the year (on audio first), and wanted to reread before the second book comes out in a few weeks! I think the #Magic system in this book is so unique and fascinating!

I liked the characters: there was a really nice variety of them and everyone was somehow interesting.

I loved the atmosphere and that was the best aspect of this book. Dark and mysterious!

I disliked the writing style: it was unnecessary wordy and it was hard to get the idea behind sentences.

This didn't really have a plot. There was a group of people who had random discussions with each other but nothing really happened.

PageShifter @TheSpineView Well there is many that love it! And I still found it interesting, atmosphere was nice. So for me this was okay and that isn't bad read 2mo

Hubby “scolded” me for buying another book from Amazon instead of waiting until our local bookstore had it. I‘m only a little bit sorry because it got bent almost in half in our mailbox. 😞 Any thoughts on this book and the rest of the series?

smalldogs_bigbooks2419 @Branwen I‘m not completely clear on what dark academia is, but I do love stories that have sort of “magical” element to them. 3mo

Tidied up my book cases today! Cleaned out my cart, so the top section could be used to hold books I‘ve received from Goodreads giveaways, which opened a lot of space on the main shelves. I wish my library were more aesthetic, but I don‘t have the space :/

Tagged book chosen because I picked up a paperback copy from B&N this weekend and added it to my fantasy/sci-fi shelf. I want to try to reread before the next in the series comes out!

Ruthiella Looking good! What‘s the pile to the right? 3mo
Saknicole I love your shelves always. You could always make the fireplace area some book stacks. You just have more self control than me. Like I can think of way more places to add shelves in your house 😂 3mo
Kimberlone @Saknicole true but I‘ve maxed out that particular space and until we move someplace with more room to have a proper library I am trying not to expand further than this area. If I got rid of my DVDs I could use that shelf, but no matter how much shit Jake gives me I refuse! 3mo

Kimberlone @Saknicole “shelf” control? 3mo
Saknicole NOOOOO NOT THE DVDS. I agree they are sacred. 3mo
Kimberlone @Ruthiella ah, to the right is a stack of board games and puzzles. It‘s a weird corner area that I can‘t cover up because there is a light switch, so I just pile those boxes in the corner…. 😂 3mo
Kimberlone @Saknicole the Harry Potter movies are constantly changing streaming services. This is why you need the DVDs!!! To be fair, I have gotten rid of quite a few since we first started dating and it‘s not like I‘ve been buying new ones either. I‘ve whittled my collection down to the essentials. 3mo

100/150 From the other reviews on Litsy, I guess I'm one of the few that liked this. It's not perfect by any means, almost every character is unlikable, but the mystery of the Alexandrian Society made me want to read more. Of course there was a cliffhanger ending, so I hope that the next book arrives soon. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫

I enjoyed this. It was really slow and I found parts to be overly wordy but an interesting story that I'm curious to see where it goes. Doesn't quite live up to all the hype though.

The series has potential, but this initial installment had some pacing struggles due to the intricate setup information needed. The magic system is fun & a bit more grown up than some of the other dark academia series out there. I could have used a bit more atmosphere & character clarification. Things do pick up & the story gets more depth & tension in the end. I feel like the initial struggle may be worth it for the payoff of the whole series.

I was tagged by @Enchanted_Bibliophile and @EadieB for #WondrousWednesday!

1. 5 ⭐️ books I‘ve read this year: The Atlas Six, The Nineties, The Nice House on the Lake, Sea of Tranquility, Heartstopper Vol. 1 & 2

2. Recent pic: Photo cred by @Saknicole - I visited her this past weekend, and we spent most of Sunday painting a paint-by-numbers titled “Cozy Reading” and watching Bridgerton season 2 in the background.

I tried so hard to like this book, but couldn't get further than the first couple chapters. Maybe it's because I liked A Deadly Education better. The illustrations were good though.

julesG I don't understand the (TikRok) hype around this book. It also read very YA despite the characters being out of their teens already. 5mo

I cannot put my finger on why I didn‘t enjoy this book. There were multiple moments while reading when I wanted to dnf the book. But then something would grab my attention and I would keep reading. It‘s strange, because normally I can pinpoint at least one reason why I dislike a book, but with this one I can‘t quite articulate it… I just didn‘t vibe with it…

jimfields3 I sometimes have this same problem , so thanks for giving voice to it. I‘m several chapters into this now. I was hoping to be mesmerized already but not yet. 5mo
reclusivepigeon @jimfields3 It kind of came off as overly pretentious and vague. Maybe my expectations were too high because this book had been hyped up way too much 🤷‍♀️ 5mo

Definitely not my usual thing but that‘s the joy of challenges! There‘s a secret magical library with a strange manipulative competition between the ‘Six‘. Too much world-building, magicy stuff for me, but I did enjoy following the chess-like moves and POVs of each of the six chosen to protect and learn at the library. I love a #DarkAcademia vibe, and the complexity of characters kept me engaged. No.2 of the #duology due in Oct. #pop22 #booked2022
