Less than 20 minutes left in this book and nothing remotely thrilling nor "haunting" has even happened... ??

I'm just reading about people being paranoid, insecure, and mostly obnoxious. But I oddly still find this interesting ?

batsy I like flawed characters, so that part was interesting for me, but yes it wasn't quite as scary as I was anticipating. 6d
reading.rainb0w @batsy I agree! I didn't even think about it that way, but it is the flawed characters keeping this story alive. 5d

Nabbed this from the biblioteca yesterday so I could join in the #ChildrensClassicRead2023 challenge. Haven't read Nancy Drew in over 20 years. Looking forward to some good old-fashioned nostalgia. 🕵🏼‍♀️

Over here chuckling because for some reason, Philip K Dick thought in 2021 we would have flying cars and androids that look so much like humans you can't discern between the two, but we're still using a freaking PHONE BOOTH to make calls outside of home or work. 🤣

#sciencefiction #classics #ThatDidntAgeWell

Bookwomble On the other hand, he also said this: “There will come a time when it isn't 'They're spying on me through my phone' anymore. Eventually, it will be 'My phone is spying on me'.” Which is right on the money 😊 1mo

A story about
Family. Not broken, but
Completely shattered

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought I'd take a break from all the horror/scary stories I've been reading all month, but tbh this was a horror in itself. In a fucked-up-family-omg-I-can't-believe-people-out-there-actually-have-these-experiences-and-survive-then-have-to-cope-and-no-wonder-people-get-addicted-to-shit sorta way. This had my attention.

I came across so many great quotes while reading this book. Here are a few of my favorites.

No haiku review for this one as I can't even fathom trying to describe this book in less than 20 words, but it's definitely at the top of my reading list this year.

I also just reached my yearly goodreads goal of 120 books!! I've never read this many in a year before, and I'm still going strong! 🎉

Actual footage of me throwing a book across the room after I finish it because.. WTF even was that??? Started off so strong, then just... died. Repetitive and annoying - halfway through. Then I just really wanted to know what a Tunneler was.. (didn't get a full description until about 80% in).. and it was not worth the wait! Pretty much hated Gyre at the end... but I think I hated the love trope more because given the circumstances... HOW?? ⭐️⭐️

Had to read the second book to find out who all the characters in the corners were! This was such a fun, high fantasy.

Spoiler alert- there was a weird sex scene in this one that threw me off guard since the first book had a very smol amount of romance, but it ended up being integral to the story so I got over it lol. I was listening while working, dropping off invoices, trying to keep a straight face like 👁🫦👁

"Such power. Yet we seem to only destroy."

This is a pretty good series.
I really enjoyed the Monsters vs Humans trope - it got me thinking a Lot about who the Real monsters in this story were because, well, humans can be a bit of a monstrosity themselves. There are good and bad monsters, good and bad humans - main point being, we shouldn't lump a species into a one package assumption. Especially if said species has conscienceness and choice.

"How could anyone become indifferent to such horror, when it stared you in the face every day?"
Continued in comments ⬇️

reading.rainb0w Taken out of context, this quote says a lot about reality and the horror we observe the world experiencing on a regular basis. War, killing, gun violence, assault... the list goes on. I can't even imagine the indifferent looks on people in the crowd when public hangings were a regular thing. Or getting excited to watch two people fight to the death in an arena as entertainment. 7mo
