Excellent fairy tale with a sweet love story and satisfying revenge tale. I love the fairy godmother, Agnes, which is a great take on the traditional one showing up at prince/sses christenings. Loved it
I spent a couple of days sorting clothes and cleaning out my attic while listening to N&B. It made the time fly! I loved the world building and character development with its political and feminist subtext. Mara was not your typical nymphette protagonist, but a second-daughter, almost-nun, 30 year old coming to terms with family dynamics. A fun read and I recommend it if you like fairytale retellings. Reminiscent of Blue Beard & his wives! 3.5/5⭐️
This was a delight! An original, hilarious fairy tale adventure. A woman goes on a quest to save her sister from her abusive husband (who is an unkillable prince). Yes it‘s funny, really. I don‘t want to say anything else but to encourage you all to go read it! I look forward to checking out more by this author as well. 5⭐️

“I know how I‘d start” said the dust-wife finally. “Some things, I expect, you don‘t know till you‘re doing them. But it‘s been done before”
“When she closed the door to her room, it stayed shut. In the royal palace, the doors were always opening, servants coming and going, nurses coming and going, ladies-in-waiting coming and going. Princesses were public property. She had not realized that a nun had more power than a princess, that she could close a door.”
The trees were full of crows and the woods were full of madmen. #firstlinefridays
I am LOVING this book. I'm a sucker for a dark, thoughtful fairytale.
If you like your fairytales dark and your heroes unlikely Kingfisher is the author for you.
The 30-something third daughter (and almost nun) of a tiny nation goes on an impossible quest to save her sister from an abusive husband. Along the way she creates a bone dog, visits a goblin market, enlists the help of a dust-wife (and her demon chicken), and befriends her fairy godmother (who might actually be the most wicked of them all).

Okay, this one took me completely by surprise and stole my heart! All the stars for this book - one of my favorite fantasy reads of the year so far! 💕📚 It's got so much heart and made me laugh out loud many times. And there's a dog made out of bones! BONEDOG! 🐾
PS- I love finding these positive affirmation stones that people paint and then leave at the park for others to find. They always make me smile! This one says 'you are doing great.' ❤
Chaplin is a great bookish friend - he always keeps me company while reading and helps me choose which book to read next! 😽 He's been especially happy to have me home and all to himself this week! (I mean, he DOES have to share me with his little sisters, but still!) 💕📚 #catsoflitsy #littenkitten #chaplin
I love dark fantasy and when mixed with a fairytale it makes for such an adventurous read.
This story is full of amazing female characters who aren't afraid to shake things up and change their fates. Atmospheric, propulsive, and ultimately just an exciting storyline made this book a joy to read.

A quirky, wry fairy tale from T. Kingfisher. My favorite book of the year so far.

What happens when you find out a fellow litten lives in your city? A Barnes and Noble meet up!
@AmandaBlaze is lovely and I had a lot of fun wandering the stacks with her (even if my TBR list got a lot longer!). 🧡📚
I made some new reading friends today! 🐸💕📚
Finally getting some sunshine today! ☀️🌿 It's wonderful to read with that gorgeous blue sky above me! 💙
"If I were a man, I would fight him. If she were a man, no one would force Kania to try to bear child after child. If I were a man, I would not be the next in line to be married if he kills her. If we were men... She stared at her fingers curled in the dirt. It did not matter. They were not, and the history of the world was written in women's wombs and women's blood and she would never be allowed to change it."
Ooof. ? This hits hard.
It's raining off and on today, but that hasn't stopped me from my bookish walk! 😄🌿📖 In between bouts of rain I am able to take my book out to read, and then when it starts up again it's back into my bag it goes! 😁 I love sunny days, but there is something really magical about being outside in the woods when it's raining!
I just started this book today and so far it's been perfect to read outside - especially on such a cloudy day! 🌿📚💕 It's dark and wild and twisty; I adore it so far!
It makes me so happy to see all the green started to show on all the trees and bushes! 🌿
Always look under the dust jacket. The details on and in Nettle & Bone are exquisite.

Wow!! What a great listen!! This holds many hallmarks of a traditional fairytale- royal sisters, three impossible tasks, evil curses, a terrible villain, a faithful dog, a romance, fairy godmothers, a witch & chicken with a demon. With a feminist slant, this feels fresh & modern. Marra, the youngest sister, may seem more naïve but when she realizes her sister‘s plight she sets off on a journey to find a way to do the impossible- slay the prince!
4.5/5
I love a fairy tale inspired fantasy, especially those that acknowledge the dark roots of these stories, and this delivers with impossible tasks, fairy god mothers, and curses.
Marra is the third princess and soon learns as her sisters are married off one after the other, that the monsters of her world are princes and no one will risk the good of the kingdom to save a princess. Marra must find a way to save her sister and herself.
The trees were full of crows, and the woods were full of mad men. The pit was full of bones, and her hands were full of wires.

🎧 3 princesses stand between peace across the land & a war that would ruin their tiny kingdom.
Currently the middle sister is wed to a cruel prince. Her older sister died under mysterious circumstances & Marra was sent to a convent.
This is how the naive almost-nun takes matters into her own hands with an old woman who speaks to the dead, a ghost dog, a convict knight, a godmother & a demon chicken.
Very fairytale-like.
LOVED IT!

In this fairy tale, it'll be 'happily ever after' after the princess murders the prince, not marries him. Join princess Marra and her companions—a ghost-raising gravewitch, a frizzy fairy godmother, an exiled knight, a dog made of bones, and a chicken with a demon—on an impossible quest to save her sister from the hands of a cruel prince. Gruesome and bewitching, yet full of hope and humor and heart, Nettle & Bone is my new favorite fairy tale.
With the forthcoming April 2022 release of Nettle & Bone, and the summer 2022 release of What Moves the Dead, AND this untitled paladin book Vernon just tweeted about, Vernon will be getting a solid portion of my foreseeable discretionary book funds.
