Well Matched
Well Matched | Jen DeLuca
An accidentally in-love rom-com filled with Renaissance Faire flower crowns, kilts, corsets, and sword fights. Single mother April Parker has lived in Willow Creek for twelve years with a wall around her heart. On the verge of being an empty nester, she's decided to move on from her quaint little town, and asks her friend Mitch for his help with some home improvement projects to get her house ready to sell. Mitch Malone is known for being the life of every party, but mostly for the attire he wears to the local Renaissance Faire--a kilt (and not much else) that shows off his muscled form to perfection. While he agrees to help April, he needs a favor too: she'll pretend to be his girlfriend at an upcoming family dinner, so that he can avoid the lectures about settling down and having a more "serious" career than high school coach and gym teacher. April reluctantly agrees, but when dinner turns into a weekend trip, it becomes hard to tell what's real and what's been just for show. But when the weekend ends, so must their fake relationship. As summer begins, Faire returns to Willow Creek, and April volunteers for the first time. When Mitch's family shows up unexpectedly, April pretends to be Mitch's girlfriend again...something that doesn't feel so fake anymore. Despite their obvious connection, April insists they've just been putting on an act. But when there's the chance for something real, she has to decide whether to change her plans--and open her heart--for the kilt-wearing hunk who might just be the love of her life.

This series is great. That being said this was probably my least favorite book of the series. I like April and Mitch, but I just didn‘t feel the same spark as there was between Emily and Simon. Also the “no kids” issue was resolved too easily and it didn‘t sit right with me. I just needed more emotion in this story overall. Otherwise it was a nice light read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Low pick for me. Mitch is so awesome, and I‘m glad he got his story and I knew it would be April…but I have never ever liked April and after reading an entire book from her perspective I still don‘t. She can‘t tell the difference between genuine anxiety issues and sheer bitchiness, and it affects her relationships with everybody in her life. I don‘t like her martyr attitude (I‘m not a single mom but I am a SAHM homeschool mom so I get it). 👇🏻

ravenlee April just seems really out of touch with her daughter and herself. I loved seeing previous pairs, and I‘m happy to see the series will continue! (I was hesitant about Dex as leading man in the next one, but I really liked Lulu in this one and the teaser was promising, so I‘m on board - ok, I was going to read it no matter what) 1mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This is my favorite in this Ren Faire romance series so far. I love the fake dating trope, and I found April relatable as a main character. It was nice to see an older female protagonist who was, realistically, prickly & set in her ways.
Also it‘s always nice to learn the backstory of someone who always seems happy & self-confident, and, of course, it was fun to catch up with the other people we know from previous books in Willow Haven.

behudd @TheAromaofBooks this was my November #bookspin book! 2mo

The premise of this series, backdrop of a Renaissance Faire, is what snagged my attention. The first two books were great. I love the first person POV, as it usually lends to less frustration for me. The MC in this just had too much second guessing of herself for me to really enjoy this entry. Gotta love Mitch though!!Here‘s hoping the next one is better! 3.5 stars

TheAromaofBooks April was definitely my least-favorite heroine from this series so far. I found her constant gloating about how she was finally an empty-nester to be so insensitive to her daughter, who isn't even 18 yet and it just going to college, not truly moving out! But I absolutely loved Mitch! 2mo
keys_on_fire Yes to everything you said! Her daughter showed WAY more maturity than I expected. @TheAromaofBooks 2mo

Enjoyed Mitch & April‘s love story more than the previous book. Mitch is a fun, lovable character. Some steamy scenes. Tropes of pretending to date & the one bed, which is always fun, IMO. Characters from the previous 2 books are involved. Used this for my library‘s book challenge prompt of a comfort book.

Almost every Litsy reviewer describes "Well Matched" as their favorite of the series. Well, throw me on the bandwagon because yes, I love this book the best too! I've been waiting for April and Mitch's story since day one and they do not disappoint. Mitch is so adorable and I find April to be totally relatable. Even though I am not a big fan of the fake dating trope, DeLuca makes it work. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

#bookmail is the best mail! Finally got my copy of the tagged, courtesy of Cavalier House Books (thank you!), plus another couple I‘ve been eyeing. Now I‘m trying to decide if I want to dive into April‘s story or do a trilogy reread…decisions, decisions…

4/5

A super sweet book following Mitch and April. April's whole life has been about raising her daughter and protecting herself from hurt and judgement. Now that her daughter is leaving for college she has to figure out what's next in her life.

After a month of thrillers and mysteries, I was in the mood for something fluffy. The latest book in the Well Met series had come in for me at the library, so it felt like the time was right!! While I did enjoy this one, I have to say it's a soft pick for me, mainly because April is sooo bitchy about everything and everyone. I felt frustrated with her because she kept going on about how excited she was to "finally" be an empty-nester and how ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) she couldn't wait to sell her house and get out of the small town where she's lived for the last almost-18 years raising her daughter. Like I get that you weren't expecting to be a single mom and that you've had to sacrifice a lot to give your daughter a good life, but it felt SO insensitive to her daughter, Cait, who actually isn't even 18 yet and is just leaving for college, not genuinely moving into her own house or anything, to be ⬇ 3mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) basically gleeful about selling the house, moving out of town, while still reassuring your daughter that you'll make sure your new place has a “guest room“ for her when she's home on breaks!? For someone who claims to be so close to her daughter yadda yadda yadda, April's attitude about “finally“ being free really got on my nerves. There were also multiple conversations between multiple adults in this story about how none of them EVER ⬇ 3mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) wanted children because children just cramp your style and ruin your life and it's cool for other people but not for us because we've got this awesome life and don't want it getting all messed up - it really rubbed me the wrong way.

BUT I still gave this a pick because I absolutely loved Mitch, really enjoyed the fake relationship aspect, liked the way things were handled between Cait and her dad, and enjoyed revisiting the characters ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) from the earlier books. These books are fun, fluffy, and sexy, and even if I don't always agree with some of the background philosophy (for lack of a better word haha) I still enjoy reading these stories and love the Renaissance Faire background a lot. 3mo

#BookReport - Well, I did finish three of my projected books, plus a bonus book on home organization that wasn't even on my radar last weekend LOL I also finished The Safest Lies, which I had just started last Sunday & forgot to include in my picture. Currently, though, I'm reading the tagged book rather than continuing the Shetland Island books. It looks like Rosalie is also going to carry into November, despite it being October's #LMPBC book 😬

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) I need to put together my November #BookSpin list - I honestly have no idea what I'm going to read, which is a bit weird for me!!

@Cinfhen

Cinfhen Do you usually try to read a series straight through??? How can it be November already??? Is work finally slowing down??? 3mo
TheAromaofBooks @CInfhen - It depends on the size of the series. Bigger ones I split up into batches of five(ish). There are only 8 books in the Shetland Island series so I thought I could read them all this month, but for some reason even though I enjoy them they are really slow reading, so I think the second half may wait a bit. I am honestly flabbergasted that it is already November!!! It was really hot here in September & most of October - we haven't even ⬇ 3mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) had a frost yet, which usually happens by the middle of October!! Now it has suddenly switched to chilly and rainy, so I am still trying to adjust!! It's really, really unusual for us to still be harvesting apples in November, but we have another week to go. The trees were SO loaded this year that the later varieties are taking forever to ripen. Once all the apples are harvested, sorted, and stored, things stay busy but not crazy. We ⬇ 3mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) will keep pressing cider and selling apples/cider until we run out of apples, probably around the first of the year. So I'll still be driving the delivery truck twice a week & helping with the sales room/cider jugging, but it won't be nearly as chaotic once all the apples are in!!! How about you, how are you doing now that all the wedding excitement has calmed down?? 3mo

Jen DeLuca is one of the few authors that will keep me up too late, then have me up again the next morning to finish the last three chapters. This is my favorite in the Willow Creek series. I think it has to be. April is so relatable— a single mom figuring out what she wants as her kid gets ready to leave the nest. She‘s not a “joiner”, but what does she need for her next step?
A friends to lovers with fake dating. Love Mitch. Team kilt 4ever.

This was super cute! Probably my favorite of the series. Can be read as a standalone-this is an older woman/younger man rom com and there‘s a little bit of home renovation and Ren Faire. 4⭐️
