Something about the way this is described as quiet, dreamy, & timeless had me always passing it by on the shelf even though it‘s been glowingly recommended my entire life. Those descriptors are certainly accurate, but this is also more. It‘s full of contradictions & quirky characters. I love that this revels in the painfully awkward stage of growing from girlhood to womanhood without being either painful or awkward.πŸ‘‡πŸΌπŸ‘‡πŸΌπŸ‘‡πŸΌ

IndoorDame This is very much one of those stories that I‘ll continue imagining what comes next for the characters long after closing the book. #LitsyLove Readathon #24in4 #Doublespin #Roll100 @LitsyLove @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @StayCurious @Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks @PuddleJumper 4w

4 ⭐ There are twins, who, for the last five years have been raised by their parents‘ friend as no one knows where their parents are. But it turns out they‘re good at solving mysteries. They found the neighbor‘s missing dog. And they‘re known around town for being quite unique. It‘s the late 60s before the moon landing by after Stonewall. and things in this town are not what you would imagine.

LibrarianRyan Turns out magic, evil, witches, spells, etc. are all real. This book is geared towards middle grade and YA. It‘s a fun wild ride. Perfect for anyone who likes something a little spooky, but not too graphic. I can‘t wait to read book 2, which is available now. 6mo

4 ⭐ This is a dark volume. You feel Sokieβ€˜s hand in it, because the story is both dark and has a bit of humor. In it, a young woman, an artist, is trying to find her inspiration. She has found success but keeping that success has been hard. She heads off to the country, finds herself a haunted house, decides it‘s the perfect atmosphere in which to find her inspiration. But the house is a little more than just haunted.

LibrarianRyan It‘s possessed. By a spirit that seems fun but has a much darker side. This is a one-off story that‘s perfect for the spooky times. It‘s about looking at your inner demons finding them on the outside and finding ways to conquer them. I‘d say I‘d love to see where this is going, but I think it ends. It‘s an ambiguous end but it is and end. As like most Sokie Young stuff, the stories are intriguing and keep you wanting more. 6mo

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐5 ⭐ This is short and sweet, but oh so deadly. We start with a family who‘s getting ready to run by following the underground railroad. They need to get out of a life of slavery. However, some slave catchers are out to catch them however, even a gun isn‘t going to save the runaways. The only person who can save the runaways is Harriet Tubman demon slayer. She knows what a vampire is, and she knows how to kill it.

This book, like the first is super short. The good thing about that is it leaves you wanting more. We are introduced to a new character that happens to be Harrietβ€˜s son. And that creates way more questions than answers. I am thoroughly enjoying this and I am glad I have book 3.

Why are there only three volumes. This story is nowhere close to finished and I need to know what happens. I need to know if the family gets to Canada? We know those vampires exist and they mention werewolves, what else exists in this world? Not only that, how did Harriet become a demon slayer? There are just so many unanswered questions that I have to have the answers to. Please write FASTER. This book started from a Kickstarter!

Like the previous books this is a fast-paced read & the subject is rather dark. There's also a hint of the occult about the murders but I was expecting something more considering the first book of the series. In fact, I found this one a little less riveting than the previous books, & that's possibly because there was quite a lot of focus on the main characters' love-lives & I'm never a big fan of that. (Continued in comments)

OutsmartYourShelf I prefer it when relationships stay in the background in crime thrillers but that's a personal preference. The main characters are are likeable as ever & I can see this partnership continuing over more books. Overall I rate this a solid 3⭐read.

My thanks to the author & publishers, Bloodhound Books, for the opportunity to read an ARC.
