ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS?! 🎉🎉🎉 I cried watching the video his cousin took for her IG page of him getting out of the car at home! I wanted to run up and hug him so hard and never let go. I have no idea how she managed not to. I‘m guessing it only lasted as long as the video did. 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 Another video showed him in the fridge at home, trying out leftovers. He deserves a LOT of good meals after 20+ years in prison food.

This is an excellent, and disturbing, book. The extensive detailed investigation that Rabia Chaudry has conducted into the case is remarkable, all the more so given her personal involvement and what she had going on in her own life. The police investigation into Hae Min Lee's murder was at best incompetent, and there is much to suggest institutional racism and corruption. Adnan Syed - and Hae Min Lee's family - were badly let down by the state.

I've followed Rabia Chaudry on twitter for a while now, so I was curious to read her book. It was very interesting and upsetting. I will continue to follow Adnan Syed's case. I'm also considering going back and listening to the Serial podcast.

Finished this one up at lunch. Finally! I normally dont do so good with books over 8+ but for thr most part this one kept my attention. I loved Serial when it covered this case so I def was interested in this book. It was very well done and I learned a ton of new info I didnt know before! Its just such a sad story.

A heartbreaking & tragic case of Adnan who is convicted for the murder of his former girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. He is currently serving a life sentence and has maintained his innocence until today.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a good book to read in order to learn more about what happened during the trial of Adnan, the focus of the podcast Serial. But I did feel like the author was very biased so there were parts that I wasn‘t sure if I could believe because she knew Adnan and his family. This book also causes me a lot of anxiety and frustration because this is another example of the unjustness of the justice system

I listened to Serial several years ago, and for the first time I heard about Adnan's case. After finishing this book, I'm more convinced that he did not get a fair trial. The system failed him.

I loved this book! I am absolutely obsessed with this story! If you liked serial I highly recommend this one!

I 100% believe that Adnan was wrongfully convicted and I hope he gets his new trial soon. So many blunders and missed opportunities for him which most were no fault of his own. I've been following this case since the Serial podcast series.

I failed the first quarter of #booked2019 pretty hard 😆 3/6 completed. Between travel, new house, and new job, life has really gotten in the way of reading. Hoping to catch up next quarter 😉

For anyone who‘s been following this case as closely as I have - new doc premiering on HBO!

Very excited when I saw this in the conclusion, because I‘d been thinking about this all along. There is a small chance that Adnan did kill Hae, but evidence is starting to show that chance is smaller and smaller to the point of being so negligible as to be laughable. If this applies to any case it‘s Adnan‘s.

It‘s clear to me that the state of Maryland is in no way concerned if Adnan was falsely or even illegally convicted. They‘re not concerned if he‘s been falsely imprisoned for 20 years. They just want to keep his case in the win column. They‘ve lost too many wins lately as it is.

There is actually no proof the timesheet was NOT falsified and the restrictions within the system (that still existed when this book was written 15+ years later) meant that Don‘s timesheet was falsified BEFORE anyone but the killer knew Hae was dead and not just missing. Oh and it was falsified under a manager he was not allowed to work under, because she was his MOTHER.

The evidence that the car was found elsewhere, not by Jay, then moved to the location where Jay “found it”, where Adnan supposedly put it is very compelling...and also explains why his defence attorney was only given black and white photos of the crime scene and car.

The thing that stands out to me here is the fact implicit in the one word “child.” He was just a kid. He was barely an adult when he was convicted. There is nothing but flimsy circumstantial evidence to tie him to the murder at this point.

So this was Adnan‘s mentor and his alibi whiteness, unfortunately. The dude was trouble and really hurt Adnan. It didn‘t help that the police possibly (probably) let him off of the hook for a child molestation charge in exchange for laying low and not testifying at the trial.

As a side note, when this book was written, this guy was being investigated for sexually assaulting his dental patients.

In doing research online, I found photos of him that are more recent. He‘s definitely not the same baby faced kid in this photo. He‘s grown up A LOT since his trial.
I spent a lot of time since I finished this book writing a long, detailed review of this book. I still don‘t know if he did it or it, but I have my suspicions. I believe his friend Rabia did justice to his story, her journey to help him, and managed to tell his side of the story.

Love his little brother, seriously. I want to give him a hug, right after I give Adnan a hug.

From my notes on this book. #3 is the one that bothers me.

I have no idea if he did it or not. Two people, possibly three do. One is dead. The other is Adnan. The third, if Adnan didn‘t do it, is Hae‘s killer. I have my suspicions, I will admit to leaning a little more one direction than the other.

To everyone who claims “oh he did it, he did it” and “the ‘innocenters‘ are all nuts,” what would you do if the DNA proved him innocent? What if what was already tested wasn‘t Adnan‘s, and that‘s why they stopped the rest of the tests? If it comes back as his, I will admit that my suspicions were wrong and I was hoodwinked. Would any of these people do the same?

The closing argument was painful. Just reading it I felt like she was drunk or high at the time, and I wasn‘t even there. I can‘t imagine what it was like to listen to that madness. This poor kid needs a decent lawyer. No wonder half of everyone is convinced of his guilt. 🤦🏼‍♀️

This is the face of a kid that got screwed by some incredibly questionable, and possibly illegal, detective work. 20% of the way through the book and there are already WAY too many holes and total BS things in the “case” against him. @Samplergal I completely agree with you and I haven‘t read it all yet. The reviewer who claimed this book is trying to point that finger at anyone to get him out of trouble is total BS.

Wish they had taken the time to type these letters out, as the typewriter he has access to makes for difficult reading. Still, this letter is interesting. It seems to me like his first lawyer couldn‘t be bothered to actually defend him, had decided she was going to lose, and screwed him over in the process of lying to him about trying to follow leads.

Adnan‘s Story is my next read. I‘m not sure how this is going to go. At first I thought the kid on the cover was the kid who died, but was told he‘s the kid convicted of killing another kid. I went to high school will kids that looked like they‘d beat the piss out of people for fun. When we found out later they were in jail, none of us were surprised. This kid does not look like any of those kids.

#nonfiction2019. I love non fiction. Something with law or medicine.

Great read for the true crime fan. I have no doubt this kid didn‘t do it. Knowing what I do about the area, his lawyer, who was a complete mess, the local politics, The Baltimore Police Department, I have no doubt that there was some hinky crap occurring. After 9/11, the area was not at all motivated to listen to a Muslim in an area surrounded by Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid headquarters, Fort Meade and NSA. #booked2019 #podcast

Rabia must have thought this book was #myshot at getting Adnan‘s full story out to the public (well, in addition to her blog, twitter feed, and podcast!). And she did a great job of communicating the many details of this case and the doubt that pervades Adnan‘a accusation. I found the post-serial information the most fascinating, as I have already listened to the podcast. And I gotta say, Rabia convinced me of Adnan‘s innocence!

My latest audiobook. This occurred in my home area and remember this murder and trial. Having some connections via the schools I used to supervise, this really impacted the Muslim community in 1999. And then 9/11 happened... I am likely going to love this one. #booked2019 #relatedtoapodcast.

I was really caught up not only in Adnan‘s Story but in Rabia Chaudry‘s story too. Because whether intentional or not, she has inserted herself deep into this tale of corrupt behavior. While I had a few moments of misgivings, Im 100% certain Adnan did not receive an adequate trial nor did the prosecution prove beyond reasonable doubt. I certainly do not buy premeditated murder. More than just Adnan‘s story, this is also a fascinating look at Islam and the Muslim community. I‘m enjoying Rabia Chaudry‘s perspective and insight. I understand this book is written from the POV that Adnan is innocent but so far(only 25%in) there is no evidence that ties him to the crime.

I‘ve been reading my #RelatedToAPodcast book and I‘m totally hooked. Any chance you started yet @emilyhaldi ??? It‘s really good!! It‘s been awhile since I listened to Serial so I‘m refreshing my memories.

So I never listened to Serial. I know, I know. I decided to give this one a shot anyway and I‘m glad I did. Rabia Chaudry is the sister of Adnan‘s best friend, and therefore has personal insight into the case and the Syed family. She lays out the case clearly (and there is a lot going on!!) and discusses how Serial came to be and what‘s happened with the case since then.

So now I need to know—do you think Adnan killed Hae Min Lee?!?

1. Yes! 2. Probably about 10-15% nonfiction. I try to read at least one per month. 3. Sports, science, memoir, feminism, and lots of other subjects 😬 4. Fave that I read so far this year is The Good Girls Revolt. 5. I just started Adnan‘s Story for bookclub.

I was pursuing Twitter (I should be reading or sleeping) and came across this. PS if you are on Twitter and don‘t follow Rabia ... WTH? She‘s hilarious and intelligent and fantastic and sassy lol

If you LOVED Serial, season 1, this is a great supplement focusing on Adnan‘s innocence. The facts are well-presented and concise, though it is a complicated case.
