Naked in Death | J D Robb
101 posts | 168 read | 1 reading | 58 to read
In a world of danger and deception, she walks the line--between seductive passion and scandalous murder...Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she's seen it all--and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire--and a suspect in Eve's murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about--except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

I‘ve always wanted to see the In Death series made into a show, it‘s been optioned several times but never happened. However, every Nora Roberts book adaptation has been trash, so I would be hesitant too.

I dislike Nora Roberts romance books, but I figured this would be different, because there's crime. So I thought I'll probably like this one. Well, big fat mistake. I was annoyed and bored at the same time. First I wanted to push through, but why would I want to do that? So I quit at about page 70. This is just not for me. I'm just sad I don't get to read about all the murder.

Day 10 of #20series20days

Seems like the In Death Series will go on forever, lol. There are 40+ books. I‘ve read ~20. A gritty police procedural set in futuristic New York City. While some complain the books are repetitive, I don‘t see it. I‘ve enjoyed each book I‘ve read. Interesting murder cases to be solved and a cast of characters with great story arcs. I could do without the steamy sex scenes, but it does not diminish my love for the books.

Day 1 for me in my #Top20Series is the In Death series by JD Robb.
A futuristic police procedural set in NYC. With 50 full books strong, this series and the character development keeps going strong. I love the main and secondary characters. One thing I found out is I do NOT care for the audios as I don't like how the reader voices them. But the books are amazing!

I don‘t understand how this book has so many good ratings. There is barely any character development and without that, not much carries any weight. The love interest, Roarke, has zero character arc. The main character, Eve barely does. So when they got together I wasn‘t really invested in them. Plus- trigger warnings- child death, rape, and pedophilia. Pass.

It was dark (for me) and gritty but it kept me reading. I hated putting this down for any reason. I am definitely moving forward in this series.

I have read so many books in this series, out of order. Everytime I try to read them all in order, between finances and library lack I never get through them. Moved to Henderson, NV and it looks like between Henderson Library, and Las Vegas Clark County Library, I may FINALLY be able to read this entire series in order. Starting from this first book - and I must say, I think I had forgotten how much I enjoyed them.

StayCurious These books are great! But I do think you‘ll enjoy them more in order😊 3y
demented pixie @StayCurious I'm sure I will. I'm really looking forward to finally being able to accomplish this. I'm still figuring out how Litsy works (or not) LOL. Joined for the 24in48. Looking for some doable goals/challenges to help me adjust to some lifestyle changes. Open to suggestions. The #BFC looks interesting but may not be doable during the summer here.
3y
StayCurious @demented pixie I‘m doing both. The BFC is good because you set the goals yourself and they‘re extremely flexible. Check out @wanderinglynn for more info - but I think the sign up deadline is tonight. 3y
See All 7 Comments
wanderinglynn @demented Yes, the sign-up ends tonight. But @StayCurious is correct—this is an individual challenge. You set your own goals & the fitness goals can be physical, nutritional, or mental wellness. So goals run the gamut from walking & swimming to eating healthy to meditation, praying, or journal writing. The book goal (physical, e-, or audio) is simply how many you wish to get through in 6 week. 3y
wanderinglynn And our #BFC philosophy is life happens, so adapt & change. As long as you don‘t quit, you‘re winning. So if you start with one goal and it‘s not working because of weather or your job or whatever, change it! Changing a goal is not a sign of weakness or failure. Each day is a new day to start anew. We each have our abilities, limitations, & journey. It‘s not a competition—we all cross the finish line together. (edited) 3y
demented pixie @wanderinglynn I love that philosophy! Thank you for your encouragement and support. I ran onto the #irontomeathon and already signed up for #24in48 so I think I'm set for July. I'll see how it goes and if I enjoy them and then consider the next round of #BFC. Thanks again! 3y

I recently acquired all of the books in the In Death series for an excellent price. I didn‘t know what to expect, but after a slow start, I finally got sucked into book one and really enjoyed it. There are some predictable plot points that I figured out early on, and it is a bit dated, but overall I‘m excited to keep reading the series! 4⭐️

I went on a business trip and promptly got sick. Thank goodness I had Naked In Death queued up on audio to distract me from how bad I felt. It‘s the first in a romantic suspense series set in 2058 in NYC. I will definitely be continuing the series. #femaledetective #booked19

Another series recommended by my sister. Eve Dallas, a tough detective investigates 3 brutal murders of prostitutes in the year 2058. Published in 1995, I found some of the "futuristic" elements outdated. Also, some major trigger warnings, which I wish I would have know about beforehand. I probably will not read anymore of this series, but it was a well written thriller.

One of my favorite murder mystery series is the In Death series by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts). She said in a 2011 interview with The Guardian that Shakespeare‘s Much Ado About Nothing is one of her favorites because “it‘s a brilliant romantic comedy.”

I also love this photo of her b/c it‘s so Eve Dallas.

Bostonmomx2 I never made it last about a dozen of these but....I still can‘t believe this never got optioned for tv/hbo/Netflix or something. 4y
wanderinglynn @Bostonmomx2 Apparently it was optioned or being optioned at one time for a movie, but nothing ever came of it. Maybe because there are a ton of other police procedurals already out? 4y

I enjoyed this so much! I‘m so excited to have another long series to read thru!

At first, I wasn‘t sure how I would like the futuristic setting, but it was early in the story when I got really into it. The same with the romance between Eve and Roarke-I was worried it would water down the detective/crime parts of the story. It didn‘t though! I like Eve and Roarke a lot and am excited for the next installment, which I need to get my hands on ASAP.
