Stumbled across another absolutely fabulous Little Free Library walking my daughter to school for registration. (She doesn‘t NEED me to walk her, she‘s a sophomore, but she likes the company and isn‘t embarrassed to be seen with me yet.) Anyway, this looks like a delightful place to stop and read a chapter or two.

Texreader My junior daughter just had breakfast with me at a bagel shop near the high school. Isn‘t it great when the kids still are ok hanging with us? 4h

My mom and I took Man Cub back to school shopping Friday. On the way home my mom stopped for some sweet corn. They had a free library! I didn‘t get out of the car so I‘m not sure what was in it, but I thought that was cool. It‘s a very popular roadside farm stand in my parent‘s area.

Dragonfairykats I didn't think that there would be any free libraries where I live, since it's so rural. But according to https://littlefreelibrary.org/ourmap/ there are a few! 3d

We visited my mom this weekend and she took us to see her friend‘s Little Free Library—complete with a dog hook and a bench so you can sit and read for a moment or two while out on a walk. The big house usually holds books for adults while the small one is filled with books for children—so cute! Love this little library! ❤️📚🐕❤️

Tamra How considerate to include a dog hook & bench to peruse! 3d

Went for a walk with my bf yesterday to a local bakery and was surprised to find a little free library! I hadn‘t been to this bakery in awhile but I don‘t remember this being there last time I visited. Btw, they have really delicious cookies here. My bf had a fresh from the oven still warm chocolate chip cookie, and I got a blueberry lavender macarrón.

marleed I was running errands yesterday and grabbed 6 books to donate to 3 LFLs I stopped by while walking with a visiting sister. She had never experienced any and was so exited to see a book on her wishlist. I convinced her it was fine to take even if she would travel with it. ... I came home with 4 different books so now I need to grab another load for donation - way too easy for me to accommodate a LFL! I should host my own LFL! 2w
Kimberlone @marleed totally! Whenever I have my own place someday I would definitely like to have one 2w

Couple of us went out for ice cream and I was happy to see a little free library outside. I‘ll have to bring some books to add to it next time I‘m in the area. 😊📚

#LittleFreeLibrary

Soubhiville I loaded this LFL up today! It‘s funny, I saw and liked this post when you posted it, then went for ice cream this week and saw the LFL! I looked up by hashtag to find out who posted originally 😊. I went to Recycled Reads this weekend to pick up some children‘s books, and pulled some stuff off my own shelves. So maybe next time you get ice cream you‘ll adopt one of my old books 😁. 1w
SW-T @Soubhiville How awesome! I‘m hoping to head out that way again soon so I‘ll definitely check it out! I‘ve been setting aside some books to donate. Your trip to Recycled Reads was a great idea 😊 3d
SW-T @Soubhiville Hubby and I made a donation to the LFL and then hit Cheesecake Factory. That‘s a busy spot! Several items gone by the time we left 😳 Great to see it‘s getting use! 😊🥰😊 3d

I was fortunate to be able to attend a seminar by a LFL board member yesterday. This free book movement is now pointed towards young readers who are underprivileged and most likely do not have many books in their home or parents that read to them. While this is very admirable, it makes my love of sharing my books in my LFL with old and young readers in a middle class neighborhood seem superfluous. ☹️

StaceyKondla You can feel good no matter what neighbourhood your LFL is set in. Sharing the love of reading in no small thing, and if you contribute to generating empathy and broader thinking through the sharing of story you are doing a very good thing. 2mo
Mdargusch Thanks for saying that @StaceyKondla - I needed some reassurance. It sure is fun even if the people in my neighborhood aren‘t underprivileged. 2mo
wanderinglynn That is admirable, but misguided to me. If a young reader has no one to read to them/help them read, then how is a LFL going to help? I get the access to books part, but don‘t young readers need someone to read with them? And just because that‘s the direction the board is choosing to go, it doesn‘t make your contributions superfluous. There are many demographics that lack access to books. And reading is important for all. (edited) 2mo
See All 15 Comments
Reviewsbylola I‘m glad you got to go!! And I wouldn‘t feel bad—sharing your love of reading is admirable no matter the circumstances! 2mo
Reviewsbylola Perfectly said! @wanderinglynn 2mo
MicheleinPhilly Spot on @wanderinglynn! And apart from access to books, LFLs contribute to a sense of community and sharing, something that I think is vital for any neighborhood regardless of demographics. 2mo
wanderinglynn @MicheleinPhilly Exactly. LFLs are for the community they are in. As a side note, I didn‘t know that LFL was an organization with a board & all. I thought it was just a social movement. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2mo
mdm139 I am sure your neighbors appreciate your efforts. My hoa doesn‘t allow them or I would have one. I give away books with candy on Halloween instead and my neighbors love it. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @wanderinglynn yeP “Little Free Library“ is even copyrighted and trademarked. They have a registray of little libraries put up around the globe, but there are more of these than are registered because you have to pay a $40 fee. We have our own Little Library program at my library and I have to always be careful who I say it. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Mdargusch -It takes more than just making books accessible to get kids to read. It helps HE** yes, but it's not the end. Kids will take them because they are free, or it looks fun. But it will take more to get them to want to read them. Plus, especially with kids, what books are included matter. Old cruddy books wont get read. I can lecture extensively about this (and have), so just asking volunteers to provide free books does not = success 2mo
wanderinglynn @LibrarianRyan Well I learned something new today. 👍🏻 Thanks! 😀 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Mdargusch Continue what you are doing. Don't feel pressure to do or change something you are not comfortable with. If you want to try something, then try. My friend puts a “suggestion“ notebook in her LL (not registered). And she has come to me more than once to find books that one kid asks for. that is when someone isn't taking the suggestion notebook. 😁 2mo
LeahBergen I believe EVERY neighbourhood in every demographic benefits from a LFL. Being able to “afford” books doesn‘t necessarily mean that everyone provides them for (or reads them with) their children. I stick the odd classic (like Dracula or Jane Eyre) in my neighbourhood LFL as it is on the walking path from a junior high school. I‘m tickled to think of a kid discovering these books at the same age as I did. So keep up your important LFL work! 👏🏻👏🏻 2mo
Mdargusch Such great comments you all! It‘s a very interesting movement and I just wasn‘t aware there was this focus on underprivileged kids. You make a great point @wanderinglynn about those kids don‘t have anyone to read to them. @MicheleinPhilly the community piece is one of my favorite aspects. I‘ve met and chatted with many neighbors that I wouldn‘t normally talk with. I appreciate your support @StaceyKondla @LibrarianRyan @LeahBergen @mdm139 @Reviewsbylola 2mo

On the way to the doctor their was a free little library that I stopped at. Didn't take anything but I left 3 books. Hope someone enjoys them as much as I did!
