I read this in 2016 and didn‘t love it. It was my first audiobook, I had just gotten back into reading, and I think listening to the multiple POV format was too much. After a reread of the audio, I am in love!! The multiple POV enhances the story so much because all the characters are so internal. We really need their opinions of each other and peripheral stories to see everything as it is. 💛💛💛💛/5!
This ARC has been on my TBR shelf for years. It‘s a family drama about 4 siblings who have been waiting for the youngest of them to turn 40 so that they can receive their father‘s inheritance. As the date approaches they find their mother has given most of the money to one of the brothers to bail him out of a sticky situation caused by alcohol and poor decision making.
So much drama, but great flawed characters. I enjoyed this.
"As the rest of the guests wandered the deck of the beach club under an early-evening midsummer sky, taking pinched, appraising sips of their cocktails to gauge if the bartenders were using the top-shelf stuff and balancing tiny crab cakes on paper napkins while saying appropriate things about how they'd really lucked out with the weather because the humidity would be back tomorrow, or murmuring inappropriate things about the bride's snug satin↩️
I‘ve seen mixed reviews for this one, but I really enjoyed it! Maybe it‘s because I‘m currently binging Succession 😂 The Plumb family is MUCH less toxic than the Roy family, though 😬 Another #dysfunctionalfamilyfiction win and it‘s my #TBRtarot choice for February (author‘s first name starts with C).
Cynthia D‘Aprix Sweeney excels at describing an upper-class family dynamic intensifying as four entitled brothers and sisters look to claim their rightful inheritance after their brother, Leo, throws their trust fund in jeopardy. Sweeney‘s attention to detail in creating the characters and their personalities is what I appreciated most; however, they were left with open storylines, leaving me wondering if the build-up was worth it.
I haven‘t been in for a while and it‘s because of this book. I started this at least 3 months ago and I couldn‘t get through it . But I was determined not to give up and to put it down. I‘m not a quitter. Wish it was better, characters were left with open story lines, but “oh well”. I can move on now. #donewithit #thenest
I have finally made peace with the fact that I‘ll probably be able to read only one book a month. I wouldn‘t call it a slump because I really enjoyed reading Circe.
Instead of going to the library (🥶),I looked through my reserves and found this forgotten gift.
What kind of ending was that??? I loved the beginning of this, plenty of dysfunctional family drama but then there were more characters and more till I got new perspective fatigue and then that ending?!?!? 🤬 so lazy!
Do you remember sending me this book @Cinfhen ? I finally read it and it was great! It‘s about a bunch of fairly well off, dysfunctional siblings, waiting on an inheritance that most of them have a pressing need for due to bad financial and relationship decisions. There are a lot of other more likeable characters in here too which evens things out - almost an assemblage of individuals making decisions that either harm or help others. ⬇️
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Misty you are so sweet! Thank you so much for the book, cards, and pad of paper! I love it! I can‘t wait to read this book! 💜💜💜📚 #LitsyLove
Ok I tried to pick this book up twice in the last year…..I just can‘t get into it. Sadly. I put back on my TBR pile for now.
I wouldn't quite agree (with Scribd) that this is literary fiction, but I still enjoyed it immensely! At one point, the cast of characters became a bit overwhelming, but it all came together beautifully. A fun but meaningful read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐️⭐️ Way late to the game here, and I could not muster a damn for any of these people. The 9/11 relic storyline was intriguing, but that‘s it. That‘s all I‘ve got.
I had read this one previously but wanted to listen to it this time. It‘s a good story of a dysfunctional family each with their own problems, and how they come together.
It was just so so for me. I think I‘m a fan of everything working out, but it just didn‘t nail that for me at the end. Yes, some things were for the better, but it didn‘t feel resolved. It wasn‘t a bail and I enjoyed the storytelling style. I also liked how it was all around this concept of the nest and how it effected the lives and futures of the characters, when it‘s intent was to do the opposite. I just didn‘t love the characters.
I‘m fairly convinced that for the most part it does no child or adult any good to know they will be the recipient of significant inheritance. Well, this book, finally read, served to further confirm my opinion.

This one didn‘t quite grab me the way I hoped it would. Privileged New Yorkers find their modest family trust in peril, learn to live a little more in reality, but...do they really learn any life lessons? Maybe? Still recommended for the excellence of the writing. It was on my TBR list as one of @bookriot ‘s Best Books of 2016.
An incredible display of character development, it was nearly impossible to put down.
This book was not at all what I was expecting but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Gave a great look at a dysfunctional family that really reflects all of us in a way. Loved the overlapping character plot lines. 6.5/10
So, so good. This book is a perfect example of why you don‘t count your chickens before they hatch. I honestly wish this book was longer and I could have more insight into some of the characters. I really like how some of the story lines tied together in the end. I will say that the majority of the characters were whinny at some point, so I‘m using this for #wineorwhine for #booked2020. This is also my #doublespin. Two birds, one stone!
My #bookspin and #doublespin books plus my #bookspinbingo card. There‘s a strong possibility that I can get a bingo with how the picks are this time! Looking forward!
Cindy!! @Cinfhen Look what came in the mail! It‘s a postal miracle! I am so thrilled, I can‘t even tell you. Thank you so much. It means the world to me to have Litten friends like you - sending love and bookish friendship all the way from the other side of the world. The books look great - they‘re both on my TBR, and I love the stickers and bookmarks. Thank you for thinking of me. It is much cooler than my gift - if it ever gets to you 🤷🏻♀️💕
Book Barn haul, book 3.
I really enjoyed this. I was expecting shallow, unlikable characters squabbling over an inheritance. Not the case. 👍🏻👍🏻
Loved this book from the first very long sentence to the last. This is the story of the Plumb adult siblings who are all in great need of the Nest left by their father available on the 40th birthday of the youngest child. Living in NYC is incredibly expensive and each of the 4 need the money desperately. Some great plot twists, great characters, I already miss them.
I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would. A family squabbling over inheritances, broken promises, secrets, responsibilities and loyalties. I did a print/audio combo. Narration was great 🎧I had started this book years ago and somehow never completed it. I was glad to begin again and complete. Using this for #ReadWithMrBook #DebutAuthor
My first thought for #AboutSiblings was Little Women but I decided to go with The Nest, which is about a spoiled, rich family expecting an inheritance. #BiblioMaynia
Enjoying this audio so much/ it‘s perfect for my current mood! Also enjoying my bagel 🥯 I think I‘ll need a #CoronaCleanse when this is finally over.
#OverDrive I was in the mood for listening to dysfunctional family drama ~ this audio is hitting the spot 💕
I‘ve heard this one can be chaotic!! Anyone read it?!

Dysfunctional family drama set in NY. It got me thinking about inheritance- big or small- and all the troubles & issues that may come from it, how siblings are hurt & divided.
I loved the painting/sculpture story in the second half. Clever & tender writing - with great characters.
This one is well written & so clever & it‘s making me smile away to myself ... afternoon off & with this one it‘s perfect.... loving it 👍🏻❤️ I started it briefly a while back ( it was put into #hibernation ) ... more proof that the timing has to be right ! Someone could do their thesis on this “ timing “ concept
Started this last night this family saga has me hooked I cant put it down.
Thankyou @BookNAround for this lovely surprise giveaway!!
My last book will be The Secret Place , by Tana French.
And my first of the new year will be The Nest !
#LastFirst
A very big Thankyou & a happy new year to you 👍🏻❤️
I really enjoyed this one! It was the perfect stress reliever for a busy week.
Evening plans. ???
And I love this line! "Occupied was a polite term for the current state of her amped-up brain."
I just could not do it you guys! It had a good premise and I remember this getting so much bzz but the characters sucked and the story was taking way too long to get to whatever the plot was. DO NOT waste your time. I wasted 4 days on this thing.

One of my fav reading spots is closing next week so I had to come have my fav sandwich one last time.
And the hazards of a book lunch.
