Beautiful young Elinor Carlisle stood serenely in the dock, accused of the murder of Mary Gerrard, her rival in love. The evidence was damning: only Elinor had the motive, the opportunity and the means to administer the fatal poison.Yet, inside the hostile courtroom, only one man still presumed Elinor was innocent until proven guilty: Hercule Poirot was all that stood between Elinor and the gallows...

This was a very well laid out mystery. Who would have wanted to kill a much loved, and no bad word about, Mary? Everything is against and damming for Elinor, including her inner thoughts on doing murder. But Poirot eventually gets on to it. It slowly built up on what was told, and not told. I like how he said you can learn a lot from someone from their lies. I did fall for the red herring, But I still guessed it correctly! #whodunit

Another dog sitting weekend lays way time for undisturbed reading. May be able to finish this by end of days light.
This is a mystery of solving a woman‘s innocence of murder. Her, and a cousin by marriage, fall in love. Causing it seems quite a stir that they “may” be cut out of their rich aunts will. I‘m intrigued by what seems to stump Hercule Poirot. #whodunit

Thanks so much @MaleficentBookDragon ! It was so above and beyond to not only send back my original #lmpbc book but to also send a book from my TBR. How thoughtful!! I‘m psyched to read through everyone‘s comments from our Agatha round. 😁

Elinor Carlisle is on trial for the murder of Mary Gerrard. There doesn't seem to be anybody else with a motive or who could have done it. But the local doctor asks Poirot for help proving her innocence.

I must admit I fell for the red herring and thought I'd done well to guess who it was early on. But of course I was wrong and Poirot's little grey cells were more than a match for mine.

This was my favorite pick from this past round of #LMPBC.
What a fun mystery.

This was also my #doublespin pick for February.

This Hercule Poirot mystery is not as well known as others such as Murder on the Orient Express or Death on the Nile, but I really enjoyed it. TWO TIMES I thought I‘d figured it out, but no, I had not. This quote from writer Elizabeth George says it all: “What Agatha Christie taught me was all about the delicate placement of the red herring.” Read as part of the #readchristie2021 challenge hosted by OfficialAgathaChristie on IG ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I finished my book for #lmpbc group M. I always love Agatha Christie, but this one was a little different in its style. I‘ll be curious what my fellow group members think.

I‘m using the #readtiltheendreadathon tag that @TheBookDream came up with as I try to bury myself in books as the votes are counted. Sending love to my fellow Littens today.

@MaleficentBookDragon @suvata @Bookwormjillk For my book for #LMPBC I propose one of these 4. It‘s been ages since I read any of them so I don‘t remember them well, which is good! Let me know your preferences! I‘ll tag them in comments so you can see descriptions. I‘m soooooo excited for this round!

LiteraryinLawrence Looks like a lot of the descriptions are short so it might be better to reference the list that was tagged earlier. 2y

LiteraryinLawrence @MaleficentBookDragon Ok, I‘ve narrowed it down to Sad Cypress or Mrs McGinty. Do you have a preference? 2y

This was my first Agatha Christie novel and I was not disappointed. The writing is very well structured and easy to read and the characters, while slightly racist in descriptions sometimes, are really well written. 3.5/5 I‘m so glad I read it, I can see why she‘s the queen of mystery.

robinb I read my first Christie recently and loved it! Not sure what took me so long! 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ 3y

Sunday afternoon reads. I‘m a little more than halfway through Columbine, and although it‘s a difficult subject to read about, I‘m finding it interesting and informative. It‘s very well written and well researched. Taking a short break from it to start Sad Cypress now.

erista @NatalieR Thank you, I will definitely read that too. 3y

This is one of my favorite Christie's books. The atmosphere was one of the reasons. I found the stories that Christie set in foreign places made that place seem like one of the characters.

Bklover Thanks for the review. I like AC and I haven‘t read this one. Always more fun to read one of hers that someone recommended ! 4y

When I think of #poison , I think of Agatha Christie, as death by poison is very frequent in her works. “Poison has a certain appeal” she once wrote.

Had library school friends over this evening to eat soup, talk books, #audiocoloring and #audiopuzzling. We may even start a book club!

And then, of course, we watched Poirot, because my partner is wonderful and got me an AcornTV subscription for Christmas. David Suchet remains my #OTP (One True Poirot).

WhatDeeReads I discovered that they took Poirot off Netflix and almost cried. 4y

Am wide awake and furious so might as well read. Cruisers have been v loud tonight and have only been getting worse over the last hour. Just called my non emergency PD and asked them to sit on my street and try to catch some of these jerks. He said they've had several calls in the last half hour for the same reason. Very nice man, and it's already nearly silent 10 min later! Hopefully I can calm down and get some 💤💤💤.
