Well, I persevered and got through the whole book, the first time I've managed that with Agatha Christie, and it turned out ok. I won't be rushing to repeat the experience, but may, perhaps, dip another toe into her waters at some future date.
This is the 34th Poirot, which didn't seem to matter as I knew his character from numerous film & TV adaptations, which I enjoy more than the source material, truth be told. 3/5🔎

I've tried to read various Christie books in the past and never been able to get past the first few pages, as I find her style unengaging, her plots contrived, and her characters unappealing, however, I've been committed to reading this book, so let's see if obligation carries me through where interest has failed 🧐

An outbreak of apparent kleptomania at a student hostel arouses Hercule Poirot's interest when he sees the bizarre list of stolen and vandalised items. These include a stethoscope, some lightbulbs, some old flannel trousers, a box of chocolates, a slashed rucksack, some boracic powder and a diamond ring later found in a bowl of soup. This puzzle is right up Hercule Poirot‘s alley and he can‘t wait to put the pieces together.

Another Poirot mystery, this one involving a boarding house of mostly students. A lot of red herrings & the plot gets harder to unravel as you read. Some comments from characters about the foreigners & race. Not my favorite Christie but still a good one. #scarathlon #teamslaughter @Clwojick 16 pts

A good book but i would not recommend first hand! You can pick it up if you don't have any other book to read or if it's the last book you have.

Didn't care for this one. Too much casual racism and mysogany, and the twist wasn't anything special.

I couldn't face a heavier book. Not my favourite AC but a fun reread. ⭐⭐⭐

The second Poirot book I have read this week. Whilst this was very different to A Death on the Nile, it was still a very enjoyable read. An interesting book, that started with items in a boarding house that disappeared. An interesting array of characters and took some working out. Agatha Christie certainly liked her twists and reveals. Will look to read more Poirot in the future.

Moving on to a Poirot book in my #24B42020 Readathon as I multitask. This book takes in 1955 in my #CenturyofBooks Challenge. 4 books to go to finish by the end of the year.
So far up to 5 hrs 42 mins in the Readathon.

The good news is I made it home fine and (relatively) unscathed from the trip to visit my family! 😀 The bad news is I'm a bit behind on nanowrimo because of said trip. 😟 But the GREAT news is, when I got home this little package was waiting for me: a friend who just visited Paris sent me a book from Shakespeare and Company, the bookstore of my dreams! 😍 And also metal Shakespeare bookmarks! Look at that beautiful authentic stamp in the book!😍

A more modern Poirot...with young people and drugs and all! Loved finding out more about Miss Lemon! all the ebooks were checked out from the library, so I dug our my old paperback copy from the 80s! It may have triggered an allergy attack!

Another wonderful mystery. Diverse characters that were interesting. The only thing I wish were different would be to have more Poirot. On the other hand, it gives other characters a chance to look good and help solve the mystery. This is a book I will definitely read again.

Ah America, always ready to take it to the next level..... picked this American publication of Hickory Dickory Dock for free today. Yipeeee! #freebooks

While I liked A Murder is Announced just fine, Hickory, Dickory, Dock was so much better. The plot wasn‘t as confusing and the motives were clear.

It‘s pouring down rain outside, so I‘m settled in for reading. First I‘m finishing up this, then going on to read some of Ghost Story, and then on to start my library hold that came in yesterday, The Rules of Magic.

Today was a 2 Agatha day! I read both of these for the first time today, and they were great! Links was written in 1923, one of her first ones. Although I like all of hers, this one was definitely more stilted than her later books. Hickory, written in 1955, was excellent! A very complicated case that held my interest the whole time. I never guess the endings. 😁 I highly recommend it!!
