The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants | Ann Brashares
Carmen, Tibby, Lena and Bridget have been best friends all their lives. They live in the same small American town and usually spend every moment of their long summer holidays together. The year they turn 16 is the first time they have separate plans for the summer but the girls are determined to keep in touch. Tibby buys a pair of jeans in a second-hand shop and the girls discover that the trousers magically fit each of them perfectly, despite their different figures and heights. They hit upon a wonderful plan of sharing the jeans throughout the vacation - sending them on to the next friend when they feel the time is right. From Baja California to Greece, from film-making to football, the girls - and the traveling pants - encounter first love, family upset and fatal illness. Secure in the knowledge that their friendship is constant - and the symbol of it need never be more than a parcel-delivery away - the girls survive their summer and return home with a wealth of new experiences to share. A perfect teen-chick summer read; a quirky, humorous and memorable cut above the rest.

I needed to read a book turned into a movie for a book bingo I‘m participating in and decidedly to give this one a go, not expecting to enjoy it much because I love the movie but I was wrong! It was equally as good as the movie and now I can‘t wait to read the rest of the series. And It completed my bingo row. Fun times!

#songsofsummer #summertimeblues @OriginalCyn620 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks What better way to celebrate summer than with these great summery books by Ann Brashares? A group of girls can miraculously all fit into the same pair of jeans and so, to stay connected throughout their summertime adventures, they share the pants. Really cute books🤗

Coming from a place and community where arranged marriages are a way of life and completely normal, I understand Lena's exasperation. 'Love marriages' are usually frowned upon and considered as western culture by conservative Indians. I'm not trying to generalize over here but it's definitely not uncommon.

BTW, I'm loving this book!

I loved both parts 1 and 2 of the movie and now I'm finally reading the book.
I'm at chapter 2 and loving it so far.

I know I must have read this as a teen but after finishing a re-read (?) of it today, now I‘m not sure. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed myself! In fact, I originally picked this up because I am reading a much more emotionally draining book at the moment and needed something to lighten the mood. Well, didn‘t you know- I got hooked and ended up putting that other book aside while I finished this one first!

Read this for the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge (as a lot of the books I read this year will be!) the prompt was “a book with an item of clothing or accessory on the cover.” I have always wanted to read this book and found that it was okay. Cute story but not very fulfilling.

Experienced ALL the high school feels throwing it back to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and chatting about it with awesome teacher and bookstagrammer Katie Hartman (@katiefullybooked). There‘s so much more to this story than I realized — questions of sex, depression, death, blended familes, and more — PLUS (obviously) great friendships, romances, and a cool pair of jeans. Check out the link in my bio to listen! 🎧

Well, went through that fast lol. I see now why I loved this as a teenager - because I could relate to all four girls in some way, even though they are all so different. Re-reading this also taught me something sad, and it's that I've outgrown this book. I am happy to be able to give another young girl the chance to love this book (*series) as much as I did.

Day 25: A character who you can relate to the most.
This one is hard because I haven't read a lot of books where I can relate to the main character. So for this one I choose Lena from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. She's shy/timid and likes to keep to herself but also loves her best friends. Which character do you relate to the most?

#photography #shelfie #characteryourelateto #youngadult #contemporary #thesisterhoodofthetravelingpants

mahasoor Talia from Mercedes Lackey's Arrows of the Queen series. Maybe I only relate to her because I discovered those books at the worst time in my life, but she went from a cowed timid nothing to her own person with conviction and authority and it really resonated with me. 2y

When I was in 11th grade my reading class had to choose a "book turned movie" for a project. I wanted to read The Sisterhood of the Traveling ?, but my teacher made me choose between Wuthering Heights and Tess of D'Ubervilles because "I have so much more potential" ? So I never did get around to reading it and resented Wuthering Heights. Might need to read/reread both for some healing ?

MyNamesParadise Did you read the fifth book in the series? It was published for adults? It's called 2y
BarbaraJean @MyNamesParadise No, I haven't! How did I miss that?! Adding to my list now... 📚 2y
MyNamesParadise @BarbaraJean it came out in 2011. Eventually there's going to be a 3rd Sisterhood movie with the original cast and it'll be based off Sisterhood Everlasting 2y
See All 6 Comments
BarbaraJean @MyNamesParadise I'm skeptical about a third movie because I didn't like the way they did the first two! Lena was my favorite in the first book, and as much as I love Alexis Bledel, she was NOT the Lena I knew & loved! I'll probably watch another movie anyway, though... 😏 2y
MyNamesParadise @BarbaraJean I didn't like how they combined elements of books 2-4 in a single movie so it felt forced. I didn't mind the 1st movie. I'm also a die hard Blake Lively fan haha so I'll see anything she's in. 2y
BarbaraJean @MyNamesParadise Haha! They actually picked great actresses for all the girls; I think my issue was more with the script. The first movie wasn't terrible, but Lena's storyline (my favorite) was completely messed up--they made it into a lame Romeo & Juliet-style forbidden love storyline and destroyed the beautiful nuanced shyness and uncertainty that Lena had in the book. And the 2nd--condensing 3 books into one movie did not work for me either! 2y
