Finally starting A Darker Shade of Magic. I've only heard good things.
I liked the idea of the four Londons, and I was certainly interested in the story. But I felt that it didn‘t have enough character development and that the pacing was off (all bad catastrophic stuff ALL the time). I liked the writing, though, and I‘ll probably read more Schwab in the future.
October is here! I love themed reading in October! This is my slightly ambitious TBR pile for #Screamathon. We‘ll see how far I get, plus I have to finish The Testaments first! Happy Spooktober reading! #AllHallowsRead
I really liked this @Avanders , and I used your bookmark with it, because it felt like a perfect match.
I thought this was YA, but I‘m not sure after reading it... anyone know how it‘s usually classified?
Anyway, I thought it had a bit of a slow start, but once I got through the world building part the story was great. I‘ll definitely continue the series. ❤️
I‘m starting this morning with this one for #24b4monday. I have almost 6 hours on the clock from yesterday. Enjoying this so far!
Hi #AuthorAMonth folks! September must be a busy month for us all, as only 2 folks have posted reviews! 😱 If you have read a VE Schwab this month and posted your review, please check your post to be sure you used the hashtag and tagged me so I can record it on my spreadsheet.
October will be Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, put in your Library hold now 😊.

1) London, UK - not a unique choice 😶
2) overcast and humid morning - it's 8.15am
3) with a phycisist who only talked about his lab work, was sitting straight as a board in a pub and had no sense of humour
4) two kids, two cats
5) impatiently waiting for Friday to roll around the world. 😁
I know I was late to the party on this series, but I read it this summer and absolutely ❤️ it!
Kell & Lila & Rhy & Alucard & the alternate London captured me completely. I raced through the series, reading each book as quickly as possible. This is the kind of fantasy I fall for over and over again. Compulsive, immersive, inventive with characters who capture your imagination and make you wish you lived in their world. A new favorite🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
3.75⭐ This book has so much potential, but was blandly executed. The author claims this is not a YA novel, yet nothing about it is more mature, complex, or dark than a typical YA fantasy novel. All PG-13 action and easy prose. The plot is good but not great, & the characters a tad underdeveloped & predictable (though likeable enough to root for them). I'm curious to see how the series ends, but I'm not dying to pick up the sequel anytime soon.
Surprised how much I like this. I don't usually read pure Fantasy. Kell is such a great character and Lila!!... you just want to know more about them. So easy to read. Short chapters that just encourage you to get reading over and over. Just read it!
I finished this book this morning and it was phenomenal! This was my very first V.E.Schwab book I‘ve read so far,I absolutely adored it so much,I loved learning about the different London‘s,also Kell and Lila were just adorable? I must say! I can‘t wait to see more of Rhy in the second book I‘ll just love him! 💕Overall I totally recommend this book to the moon and back!
I had high hopes for this. The plot has potential but it fell flat. I felt indifferent to the characters, no matter how much I tried, couldn‘t like any of them. Lila felt like the typical badass girl that has become popular in fantasy. Kell was boring. Every other character was one-dimensional. As much as this book talks about the four Londons there‘s really no other explanation to them or differences aside from how magic is used in each.
July has officially come to an end which means it's finally time for the #newtsreadathon2019 📚📚
I'm still working out some of my choices for my #newtstbr but I know I'm starting with A Darker Shade of Magic because it's the book club pick for #fictionfuedsociety
I adore this series! It was a little rough for me at first but I picked it up again, and still magical! It is definitely a book you have to fully be ready to dive into. Once you do you will fall in love with the story and how Schwab describes each London.
Finally finished this on my drive to work this morning and I'm eager to get the second one to find out what happens next. This world and these characters are very intriguing. Definite pick!
1. I‘m pretty sure I‘ve told all my friends so read the tagged at least once!
2. Tolkien, the biopic about the author‘s life. I went to see it with my dad and fellow Tolkien nerd
3. Fruit salad! I don‘t know why, but it screams summer to me
4. Four, all much younger than me
5. @AmyK1 #friyayintro
I know I'm only about a third of the way into this, so much more info to come, but so far I don't like Lila or Holland much. Or maybe at all.
“I'd rather die on an adventure than live standing still”
Reminded me of this #Fantasy series & first book I‘ve read by VE Schwab. About parallel Londons including Red, Grey & Black London. I was hooked by her writing & magical world building but most of all the characters she created! You might get hooked by the adventure but stay for the villains you‘d end up rooting for!
