My first Martha Wells & she had me at Murderbot 🎉
The second book in this series is on @peanutnine #ALSpine list, and my cousin is obsessed with this series, so I‘ve been meaning to pick it up for a while. I instantly identified with Murderbot (just leave me be so I can consume my serials!), but had a bit of trouble getting into the story. I think some of that was the audio narration, though. Got more into it the second half. A soft pick, but will pick up the second book at some point.
When a security robot (Sec Unit), hacks it‘s governor module, goes rogue, and does the unthinkable: still follows orders while watching all the movies, plays, and soap operas it can get downloaded, you can be sure interesting things will happen.
Add in that it named itself Murderbot, it is socially awkward, and thinks humans are gross, things get hilarious.
Finished 2/20/2022
Finally on the Murderbot train. This works well as a stand-alone, although the story does continue. I‘ll read the next book eventually.
I'm sure sci-fi lovers have heard of this book. Absolutely loved the personality in this and how accessible it was for a sci-fi!! #marthawells #allsystemsred
On the 6th Day of Christmas I pick All Systems Red as my favorite book of #June2022
It was recommended to me years ago but I kept putting off reading it. “I don‘t like sci-fi.” Well I was wrong.
I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ this book, it is tied for my second favorite of 2022.
I am obsessed with Murderbot. I devoured all the books and stories and am now very IMPATIENTLY waiting in the next one.

I am not sure I am any the wiser about what #hopepunk is other than probably not for me… a strange little book it was well written and an interesting world building. It also marks my final book for this years #booked22 which I am pretty proud of thanks to @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage
The first in the Murderbot Diaries. The series follows a security robot that hacked their governing unit and gained independence.
They want to use their freedom to watch soap operas but stuff keeps happening and the annoyance is palpable through the text. I really relate to wanting to just do your own thing and then having actual stuff to do.

The Murderbot novellas by Martha Wells - FANTASTIC! Four short books that added up to one great big story arc. The plots are pretty standard fare but the fast pace of the action and the snarky, deadly-but-lovable Murderbot (who'd really rather be watching soap operas) put these stories over the top. I did the audiobooks on these - great narration by Kevin R. Free

Not what I normally read, and it was a nice change of pace. I see it is a series.
I might just continue with it. #scarathlon

I often have a hard time with science fiction because the story frequently gets bogged down with all of the technology descriptions. This story, however, put most of its focus on the characters, all of whom I enjoyed reading about.
A short but interesting take on an AI who gained their sentience. For the full review, please visit http://benjamin-m-weilert.com/index.php/2022/10/05/book-all-systems-red-2017/
Decided my other holiday read was too large to read at dinner (sooo nice, do you think they‘ll let me take the chef home?) so I finally started this - on book 3 now, wish the holidays were longer (according to the academics at the next table they should be - they are baffled that not everybody can spend three weeks at a swanky hotel every year - absolutely baffled!) so I could just keep reading …
Recently read this for my queer book club. Also orange muffins are love. They‘re my favorite.

Having never finished this series, I decided to go back and start at the beginning. This book surprised me yet again with the depth I feel for Murderbot in this story. Its connections with the humans around it, its apathetic attitude about things, and its ability to get out of intense situations makes this such a great read.
Loved the reread and I'm excited to read more.
Fun! Sometimes all the sci-fi terms got a little confusing, but I'm also tired and basically braindead these days so it was probably fine. A short good time!
I‘m not having any luck house hunting, but I‘m scoring on indie bookstores! This morning I hit Lost City Books (left) & East City Books (right).
My #bookhaul came from Lost City.
Edit: I also just visited Little District Books, a small but neat bookshop in Eastern Market. So I‘ve now visited 8/14!
Why has it taken me so long to read this? Murderbot is brilliant, this is right up my street. My only gripe is that they are soooo expensive on kindle to get the next in the series!!!
Discussing on Library Thing the recent spate of Litsy accounts with (initially, before they get blocked) 150 people they follow, post nothing, have no entries on Read Books, and one book To Read, it's been suggested that this is the set up for a spam campaign which will be launched once the bot accounts reach a critical mass of followers. It might be wise to check for such accounts following you and block them 🚫🤖🚫
That unmatched feeling of a book being just as good as you hoped it would be, exactly what you wanted. Yes, yes, yes! Definitely continuing in this series. I loved the early haunted-house-feel moments where it seems like the dwelling might be independently trying to kill the inhabitants; the mama bear and fluffy duckling dynamic of Murderbot when it refers to 'my humans'. Serious Weyland-Yutani vibes from 'the company'.

Anyone can play along. I am curious to see other choices. How many will I stack? ?
1. Of course!
2. Murderbot, my beloved. Read through this whole series in the last four months! ❤️

This was a reread for me, and one I enjoyed just as much as the first time around.
#BookMail again. My orders from weeks ago are slowly trickling in. Hopefully all Murderbot books make it here before my son's birthday.
Took myself out to my favorite breakfast spot after helping my mom and aunt out this morning with something unpleasant. If you need me, I will be reading until I have to go to work later.
Here‘s a shocker-I do not have an #unpopularopinion. I was worried I‘d hate it since there is so much love, but Murderbot is, in fact, hysterical. How could I not like a snarky SecUnit designed to protect clients by killing all threats that really only wants to binge Netflix? The story surrounding this particular assignment was interesting and I enjoyed the adventure. I have high hopes for the rest of the series.
Had to finish this one so I can return it to the library tomorrow. I really enjoyed it. I can really relate to murderbot. I also want to be left alone to enjoy myself, but humans keeps wanting to talk to me or make me go to work.
Does anyone know if this series has to be read in order? I can get 5 and 6 on libby without a wait, but all the others have a wait list.
#libraryhaul Have to binge the first books so I can read my Easter gift from @Mitch 💖 Yay for libraries!
First book in a space opera about a security robot.
I really enjoyed this. Murderbot is a delightful narrator and I'm looking forward to reading more in the series
A fun sci fi read about a security robot assigned to a team of scientists exploring a planet but who really just wants to be left alone to watch its media in peace. The SecUnit has hacked its own governor module and is thus no longer under anyone's control. It calls itself Murderbot, though not out loud, as its mysterious past involves killing many people. Murderbot is a fun, interesting character amidst a good story with mystery and surprises.
Science, adventure, and fun. This was fabulous. One of the most unique voices I have read in awhile. Like the newer version of Number5. Action packed but still character driven.
This novel was ok, nothing super amazing which I am sad about as it was quite hyped up 😕
3.5/5

A scientific survey team, an empty (?) planet, & a security cyborg that calls itself Murderbot. What could possibly go wrong?
This was delightful. We get an immediate sense of who Murderbot is, an introvert with a tendency to sarcasm & trashy media (relatable 😂), & the stakes. Just enough world building to get me curious w/out an info dump. Resolution to the immediate story, but open enough that I immediately put a hold on the sequel. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
I actually finished this a few days ago, but I was too disappointed to write a review so here I am right now.
First off, I‘m so sorry.
I know a lot of people enjoyed this and I really wanted to, but it was SOOO hard for me to follow along with the plot. I confess I had to look at the Wiki summary to understand what happened in that entire second half because no matter how many times I flipped back the pages, I just couldn‘t understand the +
My best friend loves it so I‘m about to find out what the Murderbot Diaries are about.
Started reading this as part of the #sharreadathon
It‘s devastating to hear about @sharread ‘s passing and if anyone is going to finish her TBR it should be us Littens. The amount of support she has gotten is beautiful and it makes me happier to be a part of this community. Let‘s celebrate her life and enjoy these books for her. 💔
Absolutely fantastic. Fully formed and developed despite being a novella. World building is clear but not overly clunky or descriptive.
One of the best opening paragraphs I‘ve read in a while!
Independent rogue AI‘s are not a new thing in sci fi but this is the first time I‘ve read a book from the rogue AI‘s perspective and I fell completely in love with ‘Murderbot‘. They are so relatable, charming and funny.
I am forever Team Murderbot
I haven't read the first two and cannot comment, but I'm amused that the third, a first-person narrative of a strongly asexual character that shows absolutely no romantic interest in this book, is part of something labeled 'Bundle 'o Love'.
It's perfectly valid to celebrate Valentine's Day platonically, of course, I just practically never see that in media.
