Inside his decision-making software there were two subroutines in the shape of wolves, and one insisted that he stay, and the other insisted that he could not stay. Neither of which seemed to be natural behavior for wolves, but Uncharles could only assume this was another aspect of his undiagnosed defect.

He let them fight until one ate the other.

I've never been one for physical activity, especially if it's to a practical end, so to relieve me from the tedium of mowing the lawn, we got a robomower!
In best Asimovian tradition, he's been anthropomorphised, and named Ian, after letters in his serial number. 🤖
I can take no credit for setting it up, which my practically-minded son kindly did when he visited yesterday.
Book and a glass of wine in the late evening sun? Don't mind if I do 😊

The 9 year old loved this one. I think this one might be my favorite of the series. The message of hope & protecting the environment resonates strong here. I really wish there was a Roz that could be out there to stop the destruction to our environment.

TheBookHippie Me too!!!! I so love this series. 1mo

A humorous adventure about a robot who discovers he has murdered his master and tries to understand why and what to do next. An interesting look at AI, robots and the meaning of life (artificial or otherwise).

This is exactly the kind of book I would have been super into as a kid. Genuine sweetness mixed with true peril and darkness. The illustrations are adorable. This is a story about family, responsibility, and loyalty. I loved it and can't wait to read the second one. (The movie is also very good, although different in some key ways.)

This collection of nine short stories published in 1950 is extraordinary with its vision of a future with robots. Each story could stand alone but they collectively tell a larger story. The famous “Three Laws of Robotics” first appears here. Really interesting and well-thought out. Hard to believe that this was written well before artificial intelligence was developed. Bravo!

My daughter & I finished the second book of the series. She loves Roz & the continuation of her story. I still liked the first book more but it was still a good story. A big thumbs up from the 9 year old.

I was a bit underwhelmed with this one. Lots of action but the art seems rather primitive to be honest.

Only a little more research: This was the seed of Tezuka‘s better known Astro Boy, back to 1952.

“Astro Boy is considered one of the most important anime & manga series of because it was a pioneer in the industry…while also being the first Japanese animated series…effectively introducing anime to Western audiences.”

A cozy sci-fi for anyone who needs a reading brain break. The audiobook was wonderful. I love how slow-placed and soft the book was. It was perfect for the moment and helped me to feel refreshed in my personal life and in my reading journey. It reminded me of my trip to China in 2016, we got to tour a Buddist Monastery. Just beautiful. Wow.

Listened to this a while ago. Starting book 2 A Prayer for the Crown-Shy now. 😁

Anyone else enjoy these?

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I love this series! I hope there's a third book soon. 2mo
LoverOfLearning @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian oh love that! The first book was a 4 star for me. So not a perfect book, but I loved it in the moment. I need that calm now too. So I hope book 2 is just as slow and that it will be what I need in this moment. 2mo
LoverOfLearning @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian Also I love your profile name. So fun and clever. Everytime I see it I chuckle.. 2mo

Dex was having an existential crisis that led them to leave the life they had known, twice. They embarked on a journey with a robot who lived in the wild. The lack of world building had me rereading pages trying to get my bearings and understand what was going on. The overuse of they as Dex‘s pronouns was distracting. Sometimes the story would summarize years in just a few sentences but then spend pages lingering on just a few days. Book#21 in2025
