The story is great with great depth and story, it has great examples of clear character development such as Roland. The only negative thing i can say about it is it was a bit of a slow read.

The squirrel in grey fled across the park, and the puppy followed.
Embarking on a probably too ambitious reread of The Dark Tower on audio after listening to the Kingcast podcast. See you in about 300 hours...
I've read this a few times in my fangirl days. I always liked this story but Lord, is it slow! Lots of unpopular opinions from me on King. I hate how often he uses the words slut and whore. I hate the way he rambles. But I love Jake and I still kind of love Roland. ❤
I think this book is one of the weakest starts to a series out there, BUT it is essential for your trip to The Dark Tower. Blending western, sci-fi, fantasy, and horror elements, King started something unique when he published this 40 years ago. Not much happens in this book, but the rich world building and characterization provoke a necessity to continue with Roland on his quest despite knowing almost nothing about it. Almost as if it is “ka.”3⭐️

A quick and easy read from the King! You can tell how good of a writer King is from the fact that I absolutely could not read the fantasy/supernatural genre before I fell into his world. I‘ve learned that if you just go along with it and bring your imagination, it can be one helluva ride.
Apparently this is the weakest in the series, so I‘m excited to continue the journey.

I freaked out this morning when I realized I never posted my list for this month. 😀
“In this first book of this series, now expanded and revised by the author, Stephen King introduces readers to one of his most enigmatic heroes. Roland of Gilead, the last gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. Roland pursues the man in black, encounters an alluring woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York called Jake.”
I've never done a review of The Dark Tower books before, but this will be my fifth time reading the series and I'm going to take my time and give it the review I think it deserves.
It's such an atmospheric read, the descriptions of the surroundings just puts you right there with Roland and the characters are unbeatable.
Too much to type so check ⤵️

1️⃣ I set a goal to read 120 books this year and I've almost completed it, I think this is definitely the most I've read in a year. 😁
2️⃣ Well I'm starting another re-read of The Dark Tower series by Stephen King tomorrow, so I'll be happy if I can get to the fourth book by the end of the year; but I'm not rushing it. I want to digest every word this time.

I heard a lot of good things about this series. Honestly the first book wasn‘t exactly a page turner for me. Picking up the next book feels like a chore I want to put off. I‘m curious, but if the next book doesn‘t do it for me… the following half dozen won‘t get a chance. 2/5
🎧 We are introduced to the gunslinger Roland of Gilead. This is an introduction to one of my favorite series. Just a start. An endlessly descriptive book.
This book tells you of a goal, the Dark Tower in an endless desert in this messed up sci-fi/fantasy, spaghetti western.
Hello Alice, Jake & the man in black.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Next stop on my #stephenkinglonghaul journey. I have been so looking forward to another re-read of my all-time favorite series!! And now I have the boxed set, which makes it even better!
I know there are a lot of fans of this book, and the Dark Tower series as a whole, so my only comment is that it just wasn‘t for me.
#14books14weeks2021 Book 9 ✅
This isn‘t my favourite King, but I am glad I finally found the time to start the series. I found the middle lagged a bit, but am invested now! Waiting for book 2 from the library now.
Feels like it took forever to make the time to finish this book. I really enjoyed it. It‘s the first Stephen King book that I‘ve started and finished. Can‘t wait to discuss it with my boss at work on Friday.
One of my goals this summer is to re-read the first three books of the Dark Tower series. I just finished the first and this is one of those books that‘s better the second time through because you know what happens with the rest of the series. “Go then. There are other worlds than these.”
This week‘s new books, 6 hardcovers. 🥰

Here is Mallie from 2015. Now I have other decoy books for her to lean on while I read.
Thanks for the tag @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm ?
1️⃣ I'd travel pretty far to see Stephen King, don't know what I'd say or ask him though. I'd be like "The Dark Tower is one of the best things I've came across in my life, can you sign my copies of The Gunslinger and The Stand?." ?♂️
2️⃣ Never, but I've been off sick and stayed in bed all day drinking tea and reading. ??☕
3️⃣ Arizona/Monument Valley ??

The gunslinger Roland is introduced as the last adventurer, the last gunslinger in the world. His history is made known as well as his goal to reach the tower. There are many deaths by Roland's hand. As Roland chases the man in black, Jake, a young boy, becomes Roland's companion through the desert and the mountains, before Jake's tragic accident. Roland catches and tries to kill the man in black, but that is only the beginning. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Epic fail on getting #24in48 🤦🏽♀️
He smelled alkali, bitter as tears. The desert beyond the door was white; blinding; waterless; without feature save for the faint, cloudy haze of the mountains which sketched themselves on the horizon.
The smell beneath the alkali was that of the devil-grass which brought sweet dreams, nightmares....death.
But not for you, gunslinger. Never for you. You darkle. You tinct.
May I be brutally frank? You go on.

A reread of one of my most beloved series. Now I‘ll finally persevere and read through them all! 😅 I gave up a little over a decade ago because of a certain character. Don‘t worry, you‘ll know when I get to them again. 🙄 King‘s mashup of Western, fantasy, sci fi and horror creates such a rich universe for his story. Thank you @Twainy for including it in my swap and returning me to the series. ❤️❤️ I‘ll be adding the 2nd to my Feb. TBR. 😍
I love readathons where you pick your own goals!
-Have the tagged book finished by today.
-Read 80 pages of Ascent of Gravity by end of week.
-Start and get halfway through another book.

This book actually got me into the Stephen King universe (and what a universe it is). It started off a bit slow as I have learned many of King‘s books do, but by the end of the book I was ready to continue my path to the Dark Tower. I am on the third book in the series and so far The Gunslinger has been my favorite.
1.) The Gunslinger (Opened my eyes to how bizarre epic fantasy can get, and it‘s the first book my wife ever recommended to me when we started to date in high school)
2.) Fave Protagonist: Roland (such an interesting mix of lone wolf cowboy and knight)
Fave Antagonist: Barlow (from Salem‘s Lot, because he was almost always five steps ahead of the protagonists)
I was warned that this book was a rough start to the Dark Tower series so I went in with low expectations and those expectations were met.
Roland is the last gunslinger and he is in pursuit of Walter, the man in black. Not a lot happens in this book but Im told its all uphill from now and im looking forward to getting into the series and seeing where the SK multiverse stems from.
4.5🌟 This is my first time reading this version of The Gunslinger, and it made it a story I already enjoyed immensely to one I love. (This is the revised version King released to make it fit better into the series as a whole.) I'm so excited to be rereading this series. Bring on The Drawing of the Three!
I have been looking forward to reading this series for a long time. I spent most of the book just confused about what was going on. It wasn‘t until the very end that I started to piece things together just a little. Now I‘m intrigued and probably going to check out the next book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Late with this because I've been super busy but thanks for the tag @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm 🌌💫
My favourite book character of all time is ROLAND DESCHAIN 🥀

New books are great, but sometimes it is nice to return to an old friend.
The first in the Dark Tower series, this book did not engage me at all and I abandoned it after an hour. I know that with a series, much is made clearer about the first book by the end of the 2nd or 3rd book, but I don‘t have the patience right now. #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks #authoramonth2020 @Soubhiville
I just wasn‘t into this one right now. Maybe I‘ll come back to it in physical form or come back to the audio 🤷🏻♀️
It‘s not bad just wasn‘t keeping me hooked right now.
Started this the other day and I haven‘t listened to it much since. It‘s not bad so far.
It was okay. Ive read better Stephen King books. Definitely not as scary and disturbing as his others.
My first ever foray into King‘s work. And I‘m only mildly impressed. It was very hard immersing myself in the world due to his vocabulary, I had to keep looking words up because his surrounding context didn‘t help make the words understandable. Also I thought I was going to like Roland, but screw you Roland. Jake deserved better. This was a terrible use of my favorite trope and I‘m angry with my best friend, I feel lied to 😤
