This was such a pleasant surprise! I had it in my shelf for a while and finally quite randomly decided to read it and pulled it off the shelf. It‘s a heartbreaking story about friendship, depression, not fitting in, finding out who you‘re meant to be and what you‘re meant to do and so many other things. I really, really enjoyed it.

I love this. I'm not exactly a romantic, but I love me some well-handled consent 😍

audraelizabeth Thats something I love about jamie in outlander he always asks before kissing and sex. 1mo
ShyBookOwl @audraelizabeth interesting! I haven't read the books but I watched the first few tv episodes and was turned off by the LACK of consent to put it gently. Not between her and Jaime but other scenes. I have since blocked it so I can't recall if there were actual rape scenes or attempted rape scenes.. either way, I remember thinking it was excessive in that department and I wasn't into it. 1mo
audraelizabeth There are although not female and male. They are pulled from the book and are part of the story. At one point the mackenzie men end up in a fight defending claire. 1mo

So absorbed in this book that I didn't realize a snowstorm was happening! The last time I looked outside was this afternoon, and it still looked like autumn! Now it's all blowing wind and snow. Brr! Going to close the curtains and lose myself in this book again 😌

So here‘s the thing. This book is great at showing not telling you about depression and anxiety. It‘s great at showing struggles with speech and relationships. And for that I loved this book. I loved that it had a good ending. But I don‘t think a young teen should read this. I don‘t think someone who fights with mental illness should read this for it is triggering as all get out. I didn‘t like the cussing and the agenda but overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️.

TiffanyMichele I do think that this book can help people understand depression so well!! Because it‘s in the first POV we see Eliza‘s parents being “stupid” because that‘s how Eliza sees them. I think maybe reading this WITH your parent/child is a great thing because you both get to see a side of mental illness(I know it can help to see it. You realize it‘s a real thing and you aren‘t crazy) but you also get to censor the book in the places it needs it. 5mo

I LOVED THIS BOOK. So much. IRL, Eliza Mirk is a super awkward and shy high school senior. But she also happens to make the most successful web comic—anonymously. Then she meets a boy, and things happen, and teenagers and coming of age and mental health issues and all the things. I very highly recommend this!!

Johanna414 One of my favorites! 5mo

THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN SPECIFICALLY FOR ME. I loved Eliza, I loved her insecurity and her anxiety, I loved her art, I loved her family, I loved what this book has to say about fandoms and creators and self-worth. It took an unexpected dark turn toward the end I didn‘t feel was wholly earned, but it could not hamper my love for this beautiful book. 9/10⭐️

WOW. This book gave me ALL the feels. I loved everything about it and found it super cathartic. 😭Easy to get absorbed into the relationships and the emotions that Zappia illustrates so deftly. For sure akin to Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell but for me this one resonated more. #blinddatewithabook was a MAJOR success!

Inside picnic tonight and a side of YA. I started re-reading Harry Potter today. It‘s been on my “to-do list” for a longgg time. I‘m also going to start listening to Eliza and Her Monsters tomorrow on my commute.

Today was a good day. I saw my new office space (I‘m subletting an office space one night a week) to begin my private therapy practice. It has lots of light and plants and a beautiful bookshelf. I‘m thrilled, but so, so scared!!

I didn't love this book but giving it a so-so would be unfair, if I was going to give it a rating out of 5, it would be 3.5. It wasn't that I didn't like the story, I actually did like it, it was mainly the characters that didn't do it for me and personally the characters are the main deciding factor for me. Also I think I didn't gel too well with the writing style, the author wrote more from the character's perspective than a clear perspective.

My Current Read...so far the story is pretty good, it's got me hooked, the only problem I have is I'm really not liking the MC. She's so ungrateful and whiny - I don't know maybe it's just me and I've forgotten how it's like to be a teen but I'm sure they're not all like this. Sort of reminds me of the movie 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' where everyone is so likeable except for the whiny main character (and the movie's great too)

rmrm I will give it a try it don't read a lot of young adult 1y
LadyPotterHead @rmrm then maybe you should give this one a miss too I think, it's written in a very teen perspective 1y

Super cute book & an easy read. Loved the story inside the story & the illustrations. It was a very relatable story in some aspects. I have an introverted teen who we discovered loves to draw. We‘ve never seen her draw or doodle anything. She then tells us her art work is in a contest at the library and if we could swing by and see.She won! Although I think I know everything about my little people, they continue to surprise me daily. #Book13of2018

This is one of those books that the universe put in my way. I bought the $2 ebook without reading the description and felt kind of “ehhhh” about it after I did. So I put it off. For like 6 months. The guilt finally got to me yesterday and I started it. And finished it. Incredibly well written book that simultaneously manages to be real about anxiety and depression but also uplifting. Great YA read. 100% pick.
