A girl or teenager secretly takes a study abroad in Vietnam to find her mother's family and meets the writer/food vendor of her dreams. This was pretty cute and there was a lot of attention paid to the culture and setting. Both characters' fears and griefs were well explored. I couldn't decide if the characters were Middle schoolers or high schoolers though. I think high school? They often felt much younger. #LGBTQIA #AAPI #Vietnam #Food

Book 32 of 2025. We‘re watching the series, so I figured I would read the books first! I really enjoyed these! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was by far the best book in the trilogy!

Having read this before season 3 came out, I had limited knowledge on the plot line and went into this with few expectations.

Everything worked so well in this one. The book had the perfect amount of drama and suspense that the conclusion to the series needed.

This one was so much better than the first book!

First off, I have to preface this review by saying I have seen the second season of the show, so I did know a lot of the plot points going into the book and obviously wasn‘t surprised by some of the things that happened.

This book was much more emotional than the first.

I am a huge fan of the show and of her other series, To All the Boys I‘ve Loved Before, so I figured it was finally time to read this series. This book wasn‘t as exciting as the show, but it was still an enjoyable read.

The first half of the book was a little slow and heavy on flashbacks.

This was an adorable foodie NA / YA romance about a food blogger in Saigon and the college freshman studying abroad to try to reconnect with her culture and family. Sweet and full of mouthwatering descriptions of food.

Listening to the audiobook was absolutely the right choice, because I got to hear the Vietnamese words and sentences how the really sound. And it's a beautiful language. I loved the glimpse of Vietnamese culture (and food!) I got through this book. The plot itself is a typical romance, also exactly what I wanted and needed (escape is needed right now).

Kenyazero Good to know about the audiobook! Thanks for sharing. I‘m looking forward to this one, it looks adorable. 6mo
