Say what you will, but this series flipped the script on anti-hero/serial killer narratives. Are we really rooting for him!? Are we really annoyed with Sgt. Doakes for being the only instinctually accurate detective!? Are we clapping our hands gleefully along with the Dark Passenger!? Yes. Yes, we are. I enjoyed this book‘s dark humor and sharp wit. While it‘s different from the show, I ain‘t bovvered.
“I'm not sure what I am. I just know there's something dark in me. I hide it. I certainly don't talk about it, but it's there always, this Dark Passenger. And when he's driving, I feel alive, half sick with the thrill of complete wrongness. I don't fight him, I don't want to. He's all I've got. Nothing else could love me.”

I started the TV series first, decided to give the books a try. They're so different I still don't know if I like the book, one of the very few times I think the show may be better. Jeff Lindsay's descriptions of the moon always entertain me, he has an interesting way of writing, I like it just different than I've read before. Less gore and murder than I expected. 7 more books to determine my favorite , for now I will give it a 2.5⭐/5.
I fully admit to starting my first #MayMadness book a few hours early 😅🤷🏻♀️ But I needed something to listen to while I worked on my #BulletJournal.
I just finished the audiobook(3x the speed works every time) & I‘ve got to say that it surprised me a little. I‘ve never seen the show, so I was surprised to find how twisted the main character actually is. I just remember the commercials showing that cute guy 😂 Does anyone recommend the show?
1. I think I just did a search in the App Store - was so happy to come across it!
2. Midnight blue hair. I‘m very seriously considering it!
3. Meatloaf. My family never made it!
4. The Nanny, Sister Wives, Reality TV shows (some...and I rarely get to watch them!)
5. The book ‘Darkly Dreaming Dexter‘ + the fact that I tend to have odd dreams 🌚
(#2 in the series)
It is a horrific way to start off October. And I mean that in the most positive way.
The book is MUCH different than the show. And that isn‘t a bad thing! I didn‘t know what to expect. Dexter‘s relationship with his step children is very complex and has me dying for the next in the series. Five Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Morbidly hilarious crime fiction!!
Book two done for #24in48 and I've already started listening to the second. The really just curious to see where this goes compared to the TV series. So far, there's a LOT about it that's unlikable: annoying, repetative, convoluted, and like the author thinks his readers are just stupid. Dexter is not as charming or as clever as the show. Just *cringe*
Also, so far VERY different plot-wise from the show.
You can see any they made a show out of this. It was interesting to go along as Dexter as he tried to understand a world of interaction that we know instinctively. My only complaint is that the ending doesn‘t feel resolved. It goes like it is, but it came off like I missed something. I am interested in reading the next one though.
Of course the book is better than the series! In this format, the reader gets a more in-depth perspective of the different characters in the series. The ending in the book is also slightly different than season 1. The audiobook is narrated by the author, and unfortunately he does not do a very good Spanish accent, and he mispronounces certain Spanish words. Overall, I enjoyed it. For such a bloody book, it's an easy read.
I wasn‘t sure what to expect with this one (I don‘t watch TV and haven‘t seen the show), but I was pretty impressed. Darkly humorous with an oddly self-aware main character... I can‘t wait to read the rest of this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I got the entire series for $10 at the used bookstore! #currentlyreading
I don't know why it took me so long to start this series. I loved the show and I am loving the books!! Dexter definitely has a 'Bundy-like' quality to him but with more feeling. Not your typical sociopath for sure! Will be continuing the series in the new year!!!
Also, pretty sure the next book works for a #pop18 prompt so yay!!!!
(Sorry for the glare) Got a new tattoo yesterday and I know it's not perfect because portraits are never perfect but I think it's awesome. Planning the other thigh to be Walter White!
Who is more appropriate for #macabremonday than good old Dexter?! I really enjoyed these, despite the very cringeworthy moments. If you watched the series, but haven't read the books, the storylines divert pretty quickly and once you get over that confusion they're great! Please excuse the adorable photobomber. #hallowreads #catsoflitsy #lennox
Because I jumped the gun yesterday and did today's prompt early, I'm now playing #catchup and responding to yesterday's prompt today. 😁
Dexter Morgan is one of my favorite book/tv characters. He isn't your quintessential hero, and he doesn't #SaveTheWorld in the way you'd expect a good guy to. He's a bad guy, but a Robin Hood of sorts. That's right, he's serial killer with a moral code; he only goes after the bad guys. 🤗💉🔪❤️
I did a horrible thing today. I bought books. Like a lot of books. I have been put on a buying ban for August. I'm not allowed to bring books into the house until I find space for more. BUT ebooks take no space at all....and I had some gift cards so......😁😵🛍📕📕📕
And yes....most of these I #BlameItOnLitsy haha
I also edit the titles after I sync so I know the reading order #idonthaveaproblemyouhaveaproblem
I am unlovable...I have tried to involve myself in other people, in relationships, and even - in my sillier moments - in love. But it doesn't work. Something in me is broken or missing and sooner or later the other person catches me Acting or one of Those Nights comes along.
My husband loves the show so I bought him the book. 😜 he enjoyed it and insisted that I should read it (like I don't have enough books on my #TBR pile) 🙄 But I am and it's interesting. Seems like it is trying to make killing more palatable. (So it's okay to kill if they are killers)
#November 25 #CurrentlyReading - I don't think any if these were on my #TBR for this month - but that's typical of my #reading style 🤓📚 #AngieBookishNovember #bookchallenge #bookstagram #cherrypie #AlistairMacLeod #ToEverythinfThereIsASeason #GenevieveGraham #SoundOfTheHeart #JeffLindsay #DarklyDreamingDexter #book #cantreadjustone
I should have posted this yesterday for #Booktober. My bookmark that came with the advance copy of Darkly Dreaming Dexter. It was hard to get a clear photo of it. It is supposed to be a blood splatter on a slide. So it's clear. And, of course this fits today's #antihero theme too! #octphotochallenge
I binge watched the TV show for the first time last summer and enjoyed it. So I decided to read the book to find out how it all started. I usually say, the book was better. The book was alright, but I enjoyed the show better. The first season of the show follows this first book pretty closely, but the characters in the book were a bit flat.
