I owe Hemingway an apology. I tried to read Old Man and the Sea 30 years ago and found it so dull I gave it up almost immediately. Ever since I‘ve thought of him as a crap writer but I gave this one another try and LOVED it. Such beautiful, spare sentences and such a powerful story about man‘s relationship with the rest of nature. I can‘t square Hemingway‘s respect for all life here with his love of bullfighting, though. 😡
DQ and Sancho are too much! I am enjoying this classic despite the fact that it‘s taking me forever to read. But I do wish I could read it in Spanish and that I had an advanced degree in Spanish history and culture. 😂 I am sure so much goes over my head. #gilmoregirlsreadingchallenge
Day 1 of #bookfitnesschallenge. My goals are pretty lax: 1. Move every day. 2. Listen to a book while I move. 3. Continue a low carb, low fat way of eating. I lost 13 pounds last month. Only 80 to go. 😂 #gilmoregirlsreadingchallenge #aty2019
My final #tob2019 report. I didn‘t expect to get to Overstory and I didn‘t expect to like it much either. Wrong! I was worried about the magical realism because it‘s not my thing, but it wasn‘t excessive and the stories pulled me in and didn‘t let go. 5 stars.
I was at Antigone Books today and had to have the paperback edition of HoBA that includes the family tree. ❤️ #tob2019
I love this. #tob2019
#tob2019 progress. I could not stand Call Me Zebra and gave it up quickly. Just started Italian Teacher and should finish it before Wednesday, but it‘s not looking good for Overstory. 😢 Milkman is still my favorite...just an astonishing work.
Many years ago we were living in WV and I took my daughter to a Taco Bell. She was carrying this book and a brown man with an accent told her it was really good. Such a great memory...two people of different ages, genders, and races sharing book love at a random fast food joint! 😂 I have always loved epistolary novels and this is one of the greats. #lovenotes #literarylove
