The Essex Serpent | Sarah Perry

Pickpick

I enjoyed this book and would have enjoyed it more if the narration had been better. This book is about Cora, who is recently widowed, heads to Essex to find their legendary serpent.

Despite the ending, this book is mainly fun. In the next books it gets much darker. My favorite part is when Hermione catches Rita Skeeter and the niflers

I‘ve read enough of King to realize he doesn‘t always write in “typical” Stephen King style, and this was one of those. Definitely not my favorite of his. Fortunately, it was one of his short stories, so not too much time was wasted.

This was a nice little story. Not my favorite of his, but I am more into his long novels.

Anyway, happy belated 4th everyone!

I saw in an online Stephen King Fan group that several of the members read/listen to this story every 4th. (surprising I have never read this one).

So excited to delve into this one. Its a quick listen :)

Catching up on #savvysettings:I am almost finished with the somewhat uneven adaptation of Station Eleven. The book is set in the Great Lakes region & Jeevan & Kirsten cross a frozen #lake the first winter after the pandemic. Dead #Mountain is still TBR, but I have been fascinated by the Dyatlov Pass Incident since watching a documentary about it several years ago. Although I have only read the first entry in the Flavia de Luce series, I have never

vivastory forgotten her plotting her revenge against her family members in her #laboratory I vaguely recall there being a #dungeon scene in Lies of Locke Lamora, a sort of fantasy Ocean's Eleven. I was pleased to hear a recent guest on MMD cite it as a fave.

IndieNorth Dead mountain has been on my list as well, looks very interesting. 2y
WorldsOkayestStepMom Dead Mountain is a great book! It was the first time I'd heard of the Dyatlov Pass incident and it's fascinating to me. 2y
Eggs I see I‘ve had this book stacked for a while! I love stories about perils/survival stories on mountains, ice, etc. 👍🏼 2y

Loved this twisty tale. Pic of sunset on #Lake St. Clair where I grew up playing with crawdads. #Mittenlitten #SavvySettings @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs

#SavvySettings Day 5: Not really a #Lake but the bright sea and a city of ember on the left that looks somewhat like a watery #Lake, too, albeit barely 😭🤣😂 Half Price book finds last December while we were with family in the US.

Eggs Loved the tagged book 2y
