For a book written in 1955 this is still so relevant. Lindbergh was way ahead of her time. This should be mandatory reading for every woman and man.

My daughter gave me this book for Mother‘s Day a few years ago; I loved it. I listened to it today on my #bfc walk here on the Florida Gulf Coast — the same coast she was visiting when she wrote it. The section about needing to be alone resonated with me, as I often feel that need.

I am very fond of the oyster shell. It is humble and awkward and ugly. It is slate-colored and unsymmetrical. Its form is not primarily beautiful but functional. I make fun of it‘s knobbiness. Sometimes I resent its burdens and excrescences. But it‘s tireless adaptability and tenacity draw my astonished admiration and sometimes even my tears. And it is comfortable in its familiarity, like old garden gloves which have molded themselves perfectly.

Sometimes you find the right book at the right time. Lindbergh writes about solitude, youth and aging, finding balance and simplicity in a busy world, the time saving gadgets that complicate our lives more than save us time. A tiny book about contemplation, creativity and compassion in our daily lives, presented with wisdom and insight.

SW-T Although she wrote this in a cabin away from her husband and kids, it‘s not pretentious. More about how to carry those things with you, whether you‘re surrounded by friends and family or not. 6mo

20. Small books

Two of my favorites fit the category. Gift from the Sea is a short memoir about a time in the author's life (Anne M. Lindbergh) when she took a vacation alone near the Gulf of Mexico. A Hinge of Joy is Jean L. Connor's second poetry collection, written when she was about 90.

I've read this book twice over the years and loved both times. The author, wife of Charles Lindbergh, gives her thoughts about life, love and relationships. It's on my list to read again. This book is one of my favorites - it's a keeper and will probably stay on my shelves indefinitely.

Nute It‘s wonderful when a reader enjoys a book immensely and knows that a repeat read is definitely in the future. 12mo

I've been wanting to read some of Anne Lindbergh's books after reading The Aviator's Wife, so I decided to start with her most famous one. Gift From The Sea definitely has some great little nuggets of wisdom and food for thought, but I felt she also rambled a lot. It is also very dated, written in 1955. Still, there are definitely some good things to take away from this. 3.5⭐️ #catsoflitsy #Scarlett

I have to admit that this book is barely a pick for me. I was set to give it a so-so, but the author‘s addition to the book 20 years after the original pushed it to the pick level. My big problem with the book is that the author clearly leads a life of privilege, so her musings on life do not seem that relatable to me. I know many people love the book, so they must be relatable to others.

ValerieAndBooks I also felt this way when I read this some time ago ; but the copy I read from was pretty old — I don‘t think it was the same edition. 2y

//⭐️⭐️⭐️// I was hesitant to read this book, I wasn't sure that I wanted to read a "self-discovery, new-agey" type book. It seemed likely that Gift from the Sea would fit that description. In several ways it did, and for those moments, the book was off-putting. But, there were far more thoughts that made me pause and reflect, and for those moments, I found this book insightful. There is a line of thought that is interesting.
