Commonwealth | Ann Patchett

I really liked this on my second attempt. The characters were not that like able, but it was an interesting story and depiction of the fallout from infidelity and divorce. The structure was a little difficult to follow at times and I needed to keep referring to a character map I found online of who was who! In the end I‘m glad I read it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed this one. Dores was such a flawed yet endearing character. Rather a heartbreaking tale.

LikelyLibrarian Educated, Circe and Furies are all five star reads, IMO. Westover‘s memoir was hard to read though, triggering for anyone who‘s experienced abuse. Furies will also have you crying from time to time, but both are uplifting too. Circe is best if you need something a little less heavy. It‘s beautifully written and relevant, but it‘s less painful. (edited) 12mo
LikelyLibrarian PS: Pachinko is on my TBR list for July! 12mo
Chelsea.Poole These all are great choices! I‘m reading Circe now and 😍!! 12mo
Chelsea.Poole Oh and I loveddd Furies too, @erinreads ♥️ 12mo

kstadt929 I cannot wait to get my hands on and read The Great Alone or As Bright As Heaven! The Immortalists is on my TBR shelf. The only one I‘ve read from your list is An American Marriage and it was so-so for me. 1y
Joanielovesbooks @kstadt929 - I think I‘m in agreement with you after “sampling” about 5-10 pages of each! Although BOTM came today Circe and Then She was Gone... ugh more decisions! 1y
kstadt929 I also got Then She Was Gone from BOTM! Looking forward to that one too! I think we have similar tastes in our books 😁 1y

First audio book. Question: those of you that utilize audio books where do you typically get them? Audible? Kindle with audio? Or some other treasure I am yet aware of? Just curious. I can definitely see the value in listening to books - I just don‘t want to spend $20-25 per book. Thanks.

RaimeyGallant I haven't started audiobooking yet, but I think Apple is getting in on the action. 1y
megt I started using Audible a few months ago, but I get the majority of my audiobooks through the library. 1y
Kaye If you wanna go lowest cost, use the library. Lots of libraries may not have huge audiobook selections, so if not, these are the ones I‘ve used : Scribd , back when it was 9.99 unlimited. Now it‘s more with less selection than others. Audible has the biggest selection and many plans. The one a month is 15 bucks a book, but if you sign up for bigger plans, you get them for the best deal. I think their top one is maybe 230 bucks ? That‘s for 1y
See All 7 Comments
Kaye CONT 24 credits/ year. It figures out to under 9 bucks a book. Audiobooks.com is 15 per book, but their selection isn‘t great. Downpour.com is 13 a credit. Their app is nicer than audiobooks.com, but their selection is also less than Audible. It depends on what route you want. I also have 7 online library cards plus Hoopla so there‘s another route to take. No cost, big selection 1y
Well-ReadNeck Library is #1 for me as well. I‘ve joined audible in the past, too. They have some specials (like first three months/credits for less; buy 3 credits for $5 each, etc.). 1y
swishandflick Add me to the library recommendation! It's a fairly new discovery for me and it's a game changer. I still have Audinle as well for books I want to keep always like HP. Or books that have a really long wait list at the library and I really don't want to wait, haha 1y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders If your library has Hoopla (or Overdrive is very common) there is a wealth of audiobooks. With Hoopla they are available instantly and it‘s free. 1y
