This is truly a story that stands the test of time. Einstein‘s tale is a riveting thriller with many twists and turns, that keep the reader on the edge of their seat throughout. It‘s been many years since I have read a Dean Koontz book and I am so glad I chose this one.

This is always a good read. I listened to the audiobook this time.

“Except for the head, there were no signs of violence in the kitchen. Of course, the head was bad enough. It was in the center of the table. On a plate.”

Got to the “A reread of a favorite book” category in the 2019 Popsugar Reading Challenge so I‘m reading one of my personal favorites. Tonight I got to my favorite excerpt (dark I know, but it‘s just so well written and perfectly placed within the story to increase the intensity).

Another #GreatAmericanRead book read, and as generally is the case with the books on this list, I really liked it! I can imagine this would make a great movie. Lots of action and adventure, with even some romance thrown in.

A quote from another review sums it up quite nicely:

"Cross Lassie with E.T., add a touch of The Wolfen and a dash of The Godfather, and you get a sense of some of the ingredients in this supernatural thriller."

inthegreensandblues I would like to reread this. It's been 20+ years but I remember loving it! I was a huge Koontz fan in my teens. 3mo

Okay #groupv #LMPBC (which I had definitively said I could not do this round 😳🤭)... here are my thoughts on a #creaturefeature at this time... I looked most of these up! I only own 1 of them, but I‘ve read none. 😁

Let me know thoughts!!
@TK421 @MaleficentBookDragon @Bklover @BethM (I‘ve tagged you too, just in case 😉)

BethM @Avanders @MaleficentBookDragon I guess I‘m in 😂I didn‘t think I could be because you all had 4. Can you give me a run down of what to do? Just pick books I have but haven‘t read that fit the theme and then we vote? 7mo
Avanders @BethM @MaleficentBookDragon @TK421 @Bklover I don‘t think 5 is much different than 4, and I‘m down with a 5th! I assume Nathan and Missy are cool too?? Plus, that would take us into the cooler months, and it‘ll be fun to be reading these then! And yes, Beth, were just posting ideas now. I‘m not sure if we vote or if we just each pick our book based on whatever comments we get? It‘s up to you all! I‘m cool w whatever. 👏🏽👏🏽 7mo

Continuing the 80s theme.....loved this book and author. But stopped reading him not long after this one as they became a bit ‘samey‘. Any comments on his more recent stuff - worth a read?

Cinfhen He was REALLY a 70s /80s master!! It‘s amazing he‘s still knocking out books 1y
Caroline2 Yes!! I used to read his books too (many moons ago!) and I stopped reading cause they felt samey! I wonder if his new books are any good? 🤔 I used to love him!!! 1y
avgeyer His new Jane Hawk series is good! More thriller than horror, though. 1y

TrishB @Lisaw13 thanks - I‘ve looked at that a couple of times! 1y
LeahBergen I read this in the 80s, too (and also stopped reading him shortly thereafter)! 1y
LonelyReader I recently bought this book from Amazon after reading 'The Door To December' which I mostly enjoyed except for a somewhat tepid and unconvincing ending. I am yet to read it so can't really say if Dean Koontz books are repetitive or not. I hope I enjoy it more than I did TDTD. 1y

Started this book 2 weeks ago and still only on page 61. Is it the book? Is it me? Is it life getting in the way? I'm not sure. I've just been having a hard time settling into it and becoming invested in the story. If I can't get into the groove today, I think I'm going to have to bail. Great story telling and great story. Koontz's writing style keeps you captivated throughout the story and wanting to read more and more. It's hard to put his books down. Although the ending was predictable, it was still very well written and fun to read. I definitely recommend this book!

TheReadingMermaid @Booksbooksbooks not yet, this one was my first. But I have a few others I'll write reviews for when I get to them. 2y
KathyWheeler The Watchers is one of my favorites. Others are Twilight Eyes, Dark Rivers of the Heart, the Odd Thomas series, and From the Corner of His Eye (best villain Koontz has ever written). He is often meh, but when he‘s good, he can be really good. I heard the Frankenstein series was good but I haven‘t read it. 2y

#17booklove Day 5: Fiction Love. I decided to interpret today's theme as "love within a fiction book"; and since fur baby love is better than human love I chose Watchers! There is a relationship between the main character Travis, and a mysteriously smart golden retriever, Einstein. There is human love in this, but it's nowhere near as endearing as the love between a man and his dog.

I remember reading this when it first came out. One of those few books that I still feel like ... like I can feel the ripples of. In me. Like, I would have gone on to be somebody else, without this one. So cool to find a little library hardback of it at Goodwill. I have good will about this book. Maybe need to read it again, even. Gayan Seriously, that dog. ❤️ 4y
Josie @Gayan I KNOW I ADORE HIM. I had to stop reading to go see a movie with my mom(which I don't do often, because of the baby) so reading had to wait. BUT I'M SO ANXIOUS THAT THE DOG IS GOING TO GET HURT AND I CAN'T HANDLE IT. 4y
quirkyreader There was a film and I think Corey Haim was in it. 4y
ChasingOm Ohhhh, I loved this book! It got me out of a major reading slump last year. 🐶 4y
Josie @ChasingOm it's definitely reminding my why horror is my all time favorite genre! 4y

Needed something a little lighter to carry in my purse, so I'm starting this today!

Jamesmelvinmitchell I really enjoyed that book. You love one and pity the other. 4y
Texasblues I remember liking this, but that was back in high school and I remember nothing else. 4y
Gayan I love that book so much! 4y

Pickpick

This was an interesting read. I didn't find it to be really scary, but I liked the concept and would definitely read more by Koontz. I would also recommend this one. It was pretty fast paced and kept my interest.

Chessa Isn't there an 80's movie of this one? I'm vaguely remembering one. 4y
Victoriahoperose @Chessa I just looked it up and yes! There is an 80s movie win Corey Haim. It looks a bit different than the book, but I am going to have to watch it now and see if it is any good! 4y

He actually felt as if God had sent the retriever to intrigue him, to remind him that the world was full of surprises and that despair made no sense when one had no understanding of the purpose - and strange possibilities- of existence.
