I loved the crap out of this book when I was a kid. I managed to round up a copy on Amazon and I‘m happy to say it‘s everything I remembered and loved. ❤️ #25yrslater

Captivating, intriguing, scary, intricate, confusing, but overall I really amazing! The first thing to make me feel mind-bended in quite some time.

I wanted to like this... I really wanted to. The timeline jumps were confusing at times and ultimately... meh? It was a quick read and engaging but overall I wanted more.

The middle dragged a bit and I was frustrated with Cass at times. But I ended up really liking this one! I was pretty suspicious that I saw the twists coming, and even when I was right they were still chilling.

Unreliable narrator! Just starting this one, I‘m suspecting gaslighting.

Finally finished this one. Felt like it took ages, partially because I set it down for a few months, but also because some of it was a bit of a chore to slog through. Ultimately I liked it! Interesting story, crime drama, and the first uses of psychological profiling.

ReadingMeagan This book sounds interesting! And I am intrigued that there is also a tv show? Hmmm (adds it to ever growing list of tbr books) 😂 6y
Meganbub @ReadingMeagan I‘m interested in the TV show too! I want to finish the book though first 😊 6y

Doing a little business reading lately. I was a little worried this would end up being touchy-feely, but instead it offered up some terrific insights.

Her writing was excellent. The subject matter was horrendous, dark, and deeply upsetting. Those poor girls.

I love love love Flavia with all my heart! These books always leave me feeling so incredibly charmed, even though they usually involve murder. I don‘t even mind the deus ex machina that seems to occur in each one.

I don‘t know how I feel about this one. It was very dark and depressing. A lot of gothic-y atmosphere and had a lot of potential. Interesting premise but then fizzled at the end. Game Soc. seemed more like a poorly thrown together afterthought than anything really intriguing.

Wow, I flew through this one, unable to put it down. I did manage to see most of the twists and turns before they came but I was still totally absorbed. I‘ll definitely pick up the next books in the series.

This book was hard for a few reasons, narratively it was a little hard to keep track of each girl and her family when switching between their stories. Then subject matter-wise it was just such a f*cking bummer. These poor girls, these poor families, and the whole case is still unsolved! I may need to stick with crime *fiction* so I can at least console myself that it‘s not real. Still a #murderino but might stick to listening v. reading.

Technically started this in 2017 but didn‘t get to finish yet. I‘m about halfway through so this‘ll be book one of ‘18. It‘s a punch in the gut every time I remember this isn‘t fiction.

All the spousal bickering and disbelief was extremely irritating. And the whodunnit felt highly implausible. There were zero signs that your bestie was psychotic and abusing her children? It just seemed too extreme to be that well hidden. Then the whole thing wrapped up rather easily. The graphologist part was dumb & too easy too. But I did find out that I counted wrong and this was actually book 40! YAY for not dropping under my historic worst!

This was really good! I had a lot of theories working from the beginning. I was maybe halfway through when I became convinced of the answer. I ended up being right but that didn‘t take away from any of the story for me. Ultimately crushing and devastating.

The other book I got at Powell‘s over my thanksgiving trip to OR (I only got 2 books! Nuts!!). Sounds like an interesting twist on a thriller - a mysterious book shows up at your house only for you to find out it details the dark secret you thought no one else knew about. /38

Wow, this was really good and endlessly fascinating. The DM01 chapter was harrowing (Sept 11th). Some of the story timelines were confusing but that didn‘t really detract much.

4 weeks later and I‘m still barely into this. But so far I LOVE it! So fascinating! I‘ve been in a reading funk but have new focus to finish this one up. I need to get through 3 more after this so I don‘t drop below my books per year minimum! (40 is my “worst” this is #37)

Picked this up at Powell‘s when I was in OR. Started it on the plane home. Interesting premise but fell flat for me. I was hoping for more of a disease thriller type but it ended up being more romance gone bad.

This was so hard to get through and basically I️ hated it. Supposedly the series doesn‘t get good till book 3 or 4... my reading rut is far too deep right now to deal with that so this series is definitely tabled for me for awhile.

This was so so scary!! Until about the last quarter of the book when I was pretty sure I‘d figured it out. But very compelling and still a page turner. Cant say I really liked DD all that much but I‘m definitely open to reading more of the series. This was my first, and even though it‘s not even close to being the first book it totally worked as a stand-alone.
