Next up. Working on books I feel like I‘m the only person left who has not read it yet.

Pickpick

Oh man, did I go on a JOURNEY with this one! I was up and down. Midway, I was lagging. But I pushed through and I‘m glad I did. Evil cannot survive in the face of Hope. Think of what humans can be. Create the future you want. Make your inside face more beautiful than your outside face. 😊 I cared about the characters. Were there flaws? Sure, but I don‘t think they detract from the overall feeling this left. #PBSGreatAmericanRead

vivastory I've had this on my shelves for awhile. I was thinking of starting it soon. I know some people say they like it more than The Stand. 3y
AshleyHoss820 @vivastory It was on my shelf for quite some time as well! It kept staring at me, so I decided to spend the summer with a chunkster..but I read it FAST. It‘s decent sci-fi. The supernatural element isn‘t quite necessary. It can be a bit heavy-handed occasionally with the religious undertones. I didn‘t like the sudden racism towards the end toward one of my favorite characters. Overall, I enjoyed the overarching message of the power of hope. (edited) 3y

AshleyHoss820 @vivastory Doggone it! Now I gotta read The Stand so I can compare! 🤣 That ones also been simultaneously intimidating me and beckoning me from my bookshelves! 3y
TrishB I loved this one 👍🏻 The Stand just beats it for me, but this is a worthy contender. 3y
vivastory @AshleyHoss820 I ended up flying through the Stand when I read it last November. 3y
vivastory @TrishB Hmm..I just might have to bump it to the top of my TBR 3y
AshleyHoss820 @TrishB Oh, that is good to hear! Now @vivastory is going to bump up Swan Song and I‘m going to dive into The Stand! 😂 Thank you both for the encouragement! 😊 (edited) 3y

Mehso-so

I know this is an unpopular opinion and I am SO sorry! I just went back & forth with this one. I wanted more of Einstein and The Outsider. The end was honestly so good. I really did love Einstein so much. I just didn‘t need to be hammered with all that detail and I could‘ve used less Travis/Nora. (Again, I‘m not big on romance.) So I‘m just not sure how I felt about this. I didn‘t love it, but I didn‘t hate it either. #PBSGreatAmericanRead

Karkar I think this is a great drawing of The Outsider. 2y
AshleyHoss820 @Karkar Yes, it is! I loved Einstein and the Outsider plot was so interesting! ☺️ 2y

Lonesome Dove: A Novel | Larry McMurtry

Pickles Gap... It had only sprung up because a fool from north Georgia named Wesley Pickles had gotten himself and his family lost in the mesquites for about ten days. When he finally found a clearing, he wouldn‘t leave it, and Pickles Gap came into being, mainly attracting travelers like its founder, which is to say people too weak-willed to be able to negotiate a few hundred miles of mesquite thicket #without losing their nerve.”

This is so beautifully written. With vernacular dialogue and lyrical prose she illustrates the story with her words. As soon as I shut this book I wanted to read this all over again.

“But I don‘t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can‘t help that," said the Cat: "we‘re all mad here. I‘m mad. You‘re mad."
"How do you know I‘m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn‘t have come here.”
