The Night Circus
The Night Circus | Erin Morgenstern
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underwaya duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into lovea deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands. True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead. Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

Maybe I missed something in the text, but why does Jim Dale read the Murray twins having thick Irish accents? Even if their parents are Irish, they were raised in such an eclectic environment by so many people, they should have a much more ambiguous accent. #audiobook #pedantry

I finished this one up after chores with an old fashioned outside. It‘s 87 & 70% humidity so it‘s lovely for August in Missouri.

Good book. Certainly worth a read of you like fantasy and magic. I feel like I would have enjoyed knowing more about some of the characters and more of the history behind the contest discussed in the book. I think this book could have been amazing. But who am I to talk? I couldn‘t have written it at all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Forgot to post!
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern most certainly lives up to the hype surrounding it. Storytelling is the REAL magic of the world.. and in that case I would consider Morgenstern a true magician. It is very rare to read a novel where each and every character is dynamic as well as throughly INTERESTING but yet.. that‘s exactly the way I feel about the characters I met in this story. REVIEW CONTINUES IN COMMENTS ⚠️⚠️⚠️

BookBumming The strength of her world building is mind blowing! The Night Circus isn‘t just a book, but a breathing piece of art! In November Erin Morgenstern is releasing an unrelated second novel.. “The Starless Sea” and lets just say.. I‘m COUNTING THE DAYS!! Cannot wait to read more from her! 1mo
BookBumming PS If you‘re reading this Erin Morgenstern, I just want to put it out into the universe that I would loooooove to read a prequel or a backstory surrounding A.H. as he is one of the most interesting characters I‘ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I want to know where he‘s been and who he has impacted!! 😍

I enjoyed reading this book so much, I put the audiobook on hold back in February. It finally came in, and just as the book, did not disappoint! That said, I am glad I read the book before listening to the audiobook. I don‘t think I would have enjoyed it as much had I done it the other way around.

While there were several elements I liked in the middle of the novel, the imagery & detailed descriptions were the novel‘s strengths. The novel began & ended slowly, dragging more than it should have. The constant shifts in time, place, & narrative POV (the second person was entirely unnecessary) made it difficult to connect some pieces & to create a cohesive timeline, especially before characters were established.

I‘m back! After a 4hr nap I‘m ready to get back in to the #24in48 #readathon My entry in the #Hr18challenge about Romance books isn‘t full of “typical” romance, for me the love story has to be part of the story, not the story itself. My favourite trope is the I hate you/I love you & I much prefer it with a fantasy/supernatural element, with a few exceptions like Our Souls At Night & Jenny Colgan‘s series.🥰♥️💔♥️

Today‘s #colormepretty is #redandblack!

The Vampire Stalker is about a girl and a character that comes out of her favorite book series. It was my favorite book when I was younger, but I haven‘t read it in a while.

The Night Circus? 11/10, go read it.

A Darker Shade of Magic is one of my newer obsessions and I can‘t wait to finish the series.

Reboot was interesting, but trope-y YA dystopian fiction. I‘ve never read the rest of the books.

BeckyB I loved Night Circus! In fact, I loved it so much I immediately put the audiobook on hold from my library 6 months ago and it just came in a couple days ago. 1mo

Suddenly finding Night Circus themed stuff everywhere. 😂

Apart from that: I can‘t get rid of the feeling that there‘s something essential in the story I missed.

One needs the will to get engaged with the style. Then the description of the circus is really wonderful. But the background story can by no means meet the expectations the narration builds up.

I totally understand those who find this boring and lengthy.

Maybe I didn‘t get the point.
