Agatha Christie's genius for detective fiction is unparalleled. Her worldwide popularity is phenomenal, her characters engaging, her plots spellbinding. No one knows the human heart-orthe dark passions that can stop it-better than Agatha Christie. She is truly the one and only Queen of Crime. Sparlkling Cyanide "Rosemary that's for remembrance" Six people are thinking about beautiful Rosemary Barton, who died nearly a year before. There's the loving sister, the long-suffering husband, the devoted secretary, the lovers, and the betrayed wife. None of them can forget Rosemary But did one of them murder her?

Listening to this Christie classic as read by Hugh Fraser (aka Captain Hastings) this Sunday while I do chores. I have a weakness for Christie‘s mysteries! 😀

I always love reading an Agatha Christie. This one was not a Poirot. But I did love reading it! Very good mystery!

An early Agatha Christie I picked up at a second-hand store. It‘s not her best - lacks dramatic tension - but I love the clever plotting & how she draws the characters - you can picture them perfectly. It‘s somewhat dated but the marriage dynamics & domestic quandaries still ring true (as do some of the sexist attitudes unfortunately). Firmly set in London, I enjoyed the cosy old-fashioned atmosphere.

So it was Belgrade Book Fair a few days ago and I bought these old beauties by Agatha Christie.

I usually buy old/vintage books on book fairs since bookshops have sales on new editions after the fair (or even during the fair). And these editions are becoming hard to find (I fell in love with them when I was a kid and read my first Agatha Christie book)

I‘m not really a big Agatha fan ( although I did read nearly all of them in my teens!). But if I was ‘tis would be a dream weekend.. a reading retreat!
Has anyone done anything like this?

#OldCoolBooks #day7 #YellowedPages This is the oldest book in my library, a decade older than my Enid Blyton. Unfortunately it has no dust jacket anymore so it‘s not the prettiest. Printed in 1945, it has that gorgeous old book smell & brittle yellowed pages. This is the very first Dame Agatha story I read as a 11yrold at my Auntie Lilla‘s house. It‘s a stand alone, neither a Poirot or Marple, so it‘s a perfect place to start. #ChristieCrimeClub

Dragon Love Agatha Christie‘s! ❤️💙💚 1y

I watched the 1980s film version of this book ages ago, but I don't remember if I ever finished the book. The pace of the early part was a bit plodding with the flashbacks and "oh had we but knowns" but it picked up later. I wasn't enthused with Hugh Fraser reading the audiobook either.

I really enjoyed this book. A young woman commits suicide at a fancy restaurant during her birthday party. Or was it murder? The story is told from multiple points of view. The death occurred a year prior to the start of the story. It is a stand alone mystery without Poirot, Miss Marple or Tommy and Tuppence.
I just saw the read along for #agathachristieclub so I'm off to start The Mysterious Affair at Styles.

Now we're getting into the #LizsLibraryLoves books that shaped my adult reading tastes. You may have noticed that most of the previous books were about escaping into a fantasy world, at this age I wanted to run away so bad, my imagination was the only thing keeping me going. Then Auntie Lilla gave me my first Dame Agatha, Sparkling Cyanide, and I fell in love with not just the author but the entire genre, a love affair that continues to this day.

Dragon ❤️❤️❤️ Dame Agatha ! 2y
Jaimelire Agatha Christie is my escape too! My mom read them all the time when I was a kid. I guess it's genetic! ❤️ 2y
AmyG Reminds me of my experience. I read to escape. The family I babysat for would lend me books....mysteries. And so began a lifelong love affair with the mystery genre. 2y

#feistyfeb #day19 #boughtonvacation I bought this 1945 edition (a 1st edition I believe) of Sparkling Cyanide by Dame Agatha in Katoomba, Blue Mountains when the hubby surprised me with a weekend away for my 40th birthday. We stayed in a two storey log cabin on the edge of the national park, with a huge spa bath & open fireplace. The first day we trekked into Katoomba to see the Three Sisters and stumbled across the most amazing old bookstore.

KCorter Me neither! I have been on such a kick reading her lately that I am having trouble moving on to anything else. Haha 3y
EllieDottie I love Agatha Christie! But I don't think I've read even a forth of her books, there is never enough time to read all the books 3y
brennahawleycraig @EllieDottie I got totally sucked in! I put together a spreadsheet to keep track of them all and then started hunting down the cheap paperbacks at used bookstores. I totally recommend that method! Now I'm almost always reading one at the same time as other books! 3y

#FunFridayPhoto My first adult book was Sparkling Cyanide by Agatha Christie when I was 7. My Auntie Lilla, whose children were 15 yrs older than me, saw that I was a voracious reader even then, & that we were too poor to buy me books. She made it her mission to make sure I had enough to read & every time I saw her, gave me a pile of old books from her house. First Enid Blyton & Brothers Grimm, then Christie & others. Thankyou Auntie Lilla!😘😘

Gezemice Auntie Lilla is awesome. ❤️👍 3y
