Do you keep a reading journal?

I‘ve kept one for a couple of years now, and I‘ve really enjoyed it. I‘ve been using a bullet journal style one, but last month I found a digital reading journal for my iPad. I‘ve really been enjoying it but it‘s hectic keeping up with two journals. And there are definitely pros and cons of both.

https://wildwoodreads.com/2022/05/13/physical-reading-journal-vs-digital-reading...

Suet624 Paper is more my speed. 😊 1w
wildwoodreads I used to feel that way but now I‘m conflicted. Honestly I‘ll probably end up using both. 😂 7d

More entries for my #indexcard collection! This month I somehow managed to read down slightly more books from my shelves than reaching for shiny new 2022 entries. But these cards, they don‘t care where or how I experience a story, and that‘s kind of why I love creating them.

April 2022 - #MonthyWrapUp

rachelm Beautiful cards!! 3w
TheAromaofBooks So do you store these in a way that you can find a certain book later? I feel like you said you make some notes about the book on the back of the cards? I just love them!! 3w
Ifftay14 This is such a wonderful idea! A book journal is somehow too overwhelming for me. But index cards on a ring with my books seems doable! 3w
See All 10 Comments
KristiAhlers I love this idea! 3w
marleed @rachelm Thank you! 3w
marleed @TheAromaofBooks Yes, at the new year I‘ll sort my 2022 cards in with my previous year‘s cards by author. This year I had to get a 2nd card box (the length of a shoe box). It‘s really easy to pull a card out and read my notes for memory jogging! For the year my 2022 cards are sorted by my star rating so I can easily track my favorite reads for the year! 3w
marleed @Ifftay14 I came up with my index card system because i feared I‘d fall behind then quit on an actual journal too. The cards allow me to keep placeholder penciled in cards if I don‘t have time to color a card out. But this monthly posting is great because it encourages me to sit down, calm down, and color for a bit! 3w
marleed @KristiAhlers Thank you - it‘s great fun. I have a shelf lined ‘reading room, but if I have to give up that space and donate my books I‘ll have these physical reminders of the books I loved and even those I‘ve forgotten! 3w
CoverToCoverGirl SO beautiful! 🤩🤩 3w
TheAromaofBooks That's such a great system!!! I use my book blog to help me remember what books I've read and whether I liked them (it's sad how often I'm like... I know I read that, but did I like it?! 😂) but there's always the concern of what if something happens to my blog - so I love your analog system! 3w

I've been journaling since 2016. A mix of bullet journaling, drawing, and scrapbooking. These are my filled journals with my current one on top. I wanted to share some of my favorite pages from over the years. #LitsyCrafters

Post (1/3)

Kimzey Mine are mainly just calendar pages, daily notes and some monthly habit trackers. You might inspire me to get more creative! 1mo
Catsandbooks @Kimzey Whatever works for you, that's what's important! I find that stickers, washi tape, and colorful pens are some easy ways to make your journal ✨pop✨. Especially when you're first starting to add some creative flair. Have fun with it and if you ever decide to share your journal I'd love to see it! 1mo

March 2022 #MonthlyWrapUp and more entries for my #IndexCard collection. The quick notes on the back have triggered my own memory of reading a book more times than I want to admit ;)

Prairiegirl_reading I read Lily and the octopus this month too. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 2mo
marleed @Prairiegirl_reading oh my gosh, I loved this book. I watched a YouTube interview with Steve Rowley. All 3 of his books are being adapted to screen. He‘s writing the screenplay for two of them, but he said Lily was too autobiographical and had to turn it over to someone else to adapt for screen. …Also Lily was my favorite index card to draw for the month! 2mo
Prairiegirl_reading @marleed I was sobbing while driving! It‘s so good. I‘ve also read the guncle and I think they will both make great adaptations. I‘ll have to get his other book. Also I love your index cards. What a great idea! 2mo

My shiny-thing raccoon desire to read newly released 2022 books is coming on strong but older books from my physical shelves still had a 3-to-1 lead in this #MonthlyWrapup, #indexcard collection. 18/20 books were from my Feb #BookSpinList, and 18 books from my #BOTM TBR - how about that!

ozma.of.oz I always love seeing your wrap ups! 🤩🤩🤩 3mo
Gissy Amazing that you read 20 books this month and that challenge was extraordinary!! Now you have space to buy more BOM books📚📚📚☺️ 3mo

marleed @Gissy I did this thing after Christmas and pulled the spines of my unread books out about an inch from read books. My Botm TBRs really stuck out so I decided to focus on them until my mound felt surmountable. Since January, I‘ve read 34 Botm‘s! Now I think I‘ll be good if I just read one or two more botm‘s than I purchase for the rest of the year! 3mo

I spent the evening going through the books that I hope to read this year. From Chirp audiobooks, the NetGalley downloads, books on my physical shelf, and books that will knock off a bunch of prompts for my dozens of challenges I‘m taking part of. Next, I printed all the book covers on sticker paper so I‘ll be able to easily update my #bulletjournal. Anyone else find this image super satisfying? 😏

Crazeedi This is so awesome, can you do this for me?😉 5mo
Clwojick @GypsyKat I go to goodreads, and then click on the book cover image, and it enlarged it to a better resolution. Then I copy and paste to a Google Doc, and resize to 1” in height. The pictures I printed for my #AetheticallyMatched bullet journal spread were 1.4” in height. 5mo
Chelsea.Poole Oooh love it! 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @GypsyKat - When I print covers, I use the “contact sheet“ setting on my print options, which automatically prints 35 images to a sheet, so they end up about the right size. I just have to make sure I uncheck the “fit pictures of frame“ box, or they all end up disproportioned lol 5mo

Okay, LAST ONE (for tonight lol) - @jb72 is hosting #22booksin22 At first I wasn't sure which books to choose for this one since I'm already doing a few challenges focusing on my own shelves, but then realized that I hadn't even THOUGHT about Kindle books! So here we have the 22 oldest unread Kindle books (mostly from 2017 and 2018, when I actually got my Kindle!) Several of these will probably be DNFs because I definitely went through a ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) “if it's free and looks remotely interesting I'll take it“ stage of Kindle-ownership, but I'm excited about actually marking these as “read“ and getting them off my TBR!

So that's all the challenges I have for now - but I'm obviously up for it if any of you know of any more! Tag me if any of you have some bujo spreads to share - I LOVE seeing how other people are tracking their reads and challenges!!!
5mo
JenReadsAlot I have so many old kindle books like that too! 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @JenReadsAlot - It's so easy for them to pile up because I can't actually see them haha I actually made a spreadsheet a year or two ago of all the Kindle books I own and then when I read them I note my star rating and completion date. That way I was also able to figure out which ones are part of a series because I hate reading books out of order! Slightly ridiculous but it has made me more inspired to actually read them!!! 5mo

Because @Clwojick isn't hosting enough challenges, she also created the #AestheticallyMatched challenge, which is basically a bunch of pictures and you read books that you think fit the “vibe“ of each picture. Am I crazy? Absolutely. Does that mean I actually printed out all jillion pictures for this challenge, cut them apart, and taped them into my journal? Yes, yes it does 😂 However, you do NOT have to do that to join this challenge - she ⬇

The Shelfie Chronicles is another not-Litsy challenge that is on Storygraph. I absolutely love these prompts, which all involve 2s in honor of 2022. There are 52 prompts altogether. Bonus: I used one of my all-time favorite washi tapes for this one.

Gissy Interesting. I try to at least complete the GR 52 books around the year and it really works to read books from my old tbr. 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @Gissy - ooooo I just checked that one out and it has some super fun prompts, too!! I may have to make another bujo spread! 😂 I haven't even delved into the GR challenges very much. 5mo
Laughterhp Ooh I‘ve never thought to use my washi tape in my bullet journal! 5mo
See All 8 Comments
Prairiegirl_reading Do you have a good spot to get washi tape that isn‘t too expensive? Other than Amazon? 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @Laughterhp - I'm all about it, although not as “good“ at it as some people are LOL I especially love it for stuff like this where the same challenge is more than two pages - I use the same washi tape for all of that challenge's pages, so it's easy to tell when I'm switching to a different one as I flip through the book! 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @Prairiegirl_reading - If you aren't in a hurry, you can get it from Wish or AliExpress really inexpensively. I get a lot on Etsy, but that's not the cheapest way!! GoatGirlMH on Etsy is my personal fave, but there are tons of Etsy shops that sell it. I'm also always on the lookout in craft shops, because sometimes it goes on good sales there (JoAnne's, Hobby Lobby, etc). I'm a bit of addict! 😂 5mo
Prairiegirl_reading @TheAromaofBooks thank you!! I‘m pretty sure Joanne ships to Canada now. I will check out Etsy too! 👍🏼👍🏼 5mo

I absolutely loved the concept of the #BeachcomberChallenge, another off-Litsy one. The actual 2022 prompts haven't been announced yet, but I'm too impatient to wait until January 1 (I mean seriously) so I'm just using the 2021 prompts instead 😂 Their graphics were also super boring (no offense... but it's a bingo square except you're supposed to fill the whole board, so not really bingos??) so I got a little crazy and made a seashell for ⬇

#BeattheBacklist2022 is another one that I don't believe has a Litsy host, but I really liked this year's prompts, so it's another one that I'll see how many I can check off with the books I'm already reading. This one, along with several others that I'm doing, are available as challenges on Storygraph as well, so I also like to track them there, because, as you can tell, I enjoy tracking my reading just as much (if not more LOL) as I do ⬇

@TheSpineView is bringing back her challenge with #SeriesRead2022 - I love this loose challenge where you set your own goals for reading books in a series. I always used to just sit down and polish off a series right in a row, but the last couple of years seem to have gotten into the habit of starting more than I finish!

I was SO EXCITED when @Librarybelle announced her #19822022 Challenge because I'm also a 1982 baby and due to turn 40 next year!! (HOW!?) Gissy Nice for those books in old tbr, the forgotten books☺️ 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @mdm139 - This is my third year and it's changed my life LOL Last year I did something slightly different - I did a main notebook for all the ongoing challenges and then a separate one that I put stuff in as I went that was organized by month. So that's where I tracked how many pages I read every day & other short-term stuff, like readathons and swaps. It's worked so well!! I'm very tactile so I need to be able to SEE everything at once!! 5mo
TheAromaofBooks (@mdm139 somehow in this case being tactile involves seeing things haha like my sister says, “I need to see it with my hands“ 😂) 5mo

Has anyone heard if there is going to be an official host for #ReadtheUSA2022 here on Litsy? I love seeing how many states I end up visiting every year - I hit 42 in 2021!! I like coloring them in as I go. 😁

#MtTBR is another challenge that I don't believe has an official Litsy host, and that I never sign up for out in the blogosphere (I'm terrible at doing challenges out there haha). I have my own complicated set of personal rules for what books qualify for steps up the mountains, but I'm excited that I should summit Mt. Everest in 2021. Hoping to hit Mt. Olympus in 2022!!!

As far as I know, the O.W.L.s challenge doesn't have an official host on Litsy (or an official #), so if you know of someone who is hosting, let me know!! I always think this one looks fun but never remember to look up the prompts, until this year!! I'm not sure which classes I'll “take“ so I of course made pages for each one 😂 This is one of those where when I read a book, I look through the prompts and see which prompt the book fits. I'm ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) intrigued to see if I “pass“ any classes just with my regular haphazard reading habits!! 5mo
Catsandbooks This is a challenge I'm always interested in but forget about until late in the year. Do you know where I can find the info? 5mo

#Roll100 is a new challenge for this year, hosted by @PuddleJumper - make your list of 100 books for the year and see which numbers get drawn!! After finding 52 unread books on my shelves for the #TBRDeckofCards you would think I would have trouble coming up with 100 more but... I didn't! 😂

Gissy Like it! 5mo
PuddleJumper That looks so pretty! I've read a bunch of the ones on my list so I need to revisit it 🤣 5mo

@Clwojick is the instigator and host of many of my reading challenge addictions! 😂 This is a super flexible challenge - each card gets assigned whatever you want... a prompt, a title, a subject, whatever works for you. I have a deck of cards and have written a title on each one and am randomly drawing 4-5 a month to see if I can read through them in a year. All the challenges where I've chosen books ahead of time involve me reading books that ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) that are already on my TBR (embarrassingly, most of them I already own!) and the #TBRDeckofCards is a great one for that. I am still thinking about adding a second deck for this challenge with random prompts, but am not sure if I'm going to go that far!! 5mo
Clwojick Two decks! 😂 5mo

IF my computer will cooperate, I'm totally going to spam you all with some pics of my 2022 Reading Challenge journal!! I love reading challenges of all kinds. Some of these are being officially hosted on Litsy, and others I've just found around and thought the prompts looked fun. Most of them I read books and then see if they fit challenges, which is totally what I do with #Booked2022 a seasonal challenge that doesn't have to be read seasonally 😂

TheAromaofBooks This one is hosted by @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft and @barbarathebibliphage so check with them if you're interested - they do have various giveaways for participants as well as an official sign up form.

Peeking there at the top is my page for my #NewYearWhoDis reads - too late to sign up for that one this year, but I'm excited to see what books my match picked out!!
5mo
Cinfhen Yay!!! The bullet journal is back!!!! Thanks for sharing ♥️ 5mo
mhillis Thanks for posting these!! I was wondering what challenges were going on next year! And your bullet journal looks amazing!! 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - I'm more excited about my bullet journal this year than ever before, which is really saying something 😂 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @mhillis - Yay!! I got a little carried away, but there is so much fun stuff going on for 2022!!! Also I'm not sure if you're familiar with the @LitsyEvents page, but it's the newest community “bulletin board“ account that reposts things going on around Litsy!! Definitely worth checking out. 5mo

@Clwojick inspired me to make journal pages for my 2022 reading challenges. My goal is to read more books off my own tbr shelves so I‘m focusing only on challenges that will help me do so.

#authoramonth2022 with the TBR book covers I already own added. I own 7 books by 6 authors & have books by 4 other authors on my GR tbr.

#seriesread2022 added TBR owned series, along with single titles next up in series I‘ve already read (ex. new Outlander)⬇️

MeganAnn I‘m also doing #roll100 @PuddleJumper but haven‘t quite figured out that list and how I want it to look yet. @Clwojick do you have a spread for that one yet?? 📚And I‘ll continue #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks with a new spread with list and #bookspinbingo board made for each month as I‘ve been doing this year. A lot of these should overlap nicely using the books off my shelves while still allowing for some mood reading! 5mo
PuddleJumper Looks great! 5mo
Chrissyreadit Me too! Im working on creating a journal that matches my litsy activities! 5mo

TheSpineView Good luck! I know how hard it is to read from your own shelves! ❤📖💚📕❤📚💚 5mo
TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! I have been working on my reading challenges notebook for the last couple of weeks and it's so relaxing!!! Last year (and I'm doing it again this year) I actually made two notebooks. One for all the ongoing challenges that last all year, and then another that I did as I went along for the short-term/monthly challenges, like BookSpin, random readathons, swaps, etc. I get almost as into journaling as I do into reading! 😂 5mo
Clwojick I‘m just seeing this now! Don‘t know how I missed the tag, but I‘ll tag you in a post of my #roll100 spread! 5mo

Clwojick @NovelGirl82 thank you! I‘m definitely not artistic, but I can be crafty. 😆 5mo
KristiAhlers You should totally sell your bullet journals. I would totally buy them. I‘m going to try and read all of Reese‘s selections next year. 5mo

I just finished my 125th (!!!!) #bulletjournal layout page for 2022! I am so excited for all the challenges I‘m participating in, and the handful I‘m hosting! As much fun as I‘m having with the #wintergames, I‘m still ready for the new year to begin. I can‘t wait to fill in some of these prompts ❤️

Nelnjali Your bullet journal is lovely! I love keeping mine, but I don't feel like I'm that creative. Mostly I just record my pages read. Is there someplace you get your inspiration? 5mo
Clwojick @Nelnjali thanks! Sometimes I go to Pinterest for inspo, but for the most part I just choose whichever highlighters I like in the moment, and go with the flow. I‘m super into stiles and lines lately. So many stripes lol. 5mo
Catsandbooks 125! Wow! Your journal layouts are so pretty! 5mo
Butterfinger Love. 5mo
Texreader Whoohoo! Glad to see #foodandlit2022 is there!! 5mo
Clwojick @Catsandbooks @Butterfinger Thanks! @Texreader yes! I‘m going to try my best to stick with it this year! 😆 5mo

❤️❤️❤️ Okay, this might be my favourite spread yet! So visually pleasing! I‘m not a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I have really enjoyed listening to her new album release Red (Taylor‘s Version), so when I came across this challenge on StoryGraph I knew I wanted to try it out. ❤️❤️❤️ #BulletJournal

MidnightBookGirl Love this, also I need to make a resolution to use StoryGraph consistently in 2022! 6mo

Finished a few more #bulletjournal spreads today for some 2022 reading challenges I‘ll be doing! I can‘t wait for the new year to begin so I can start filling these out! ❤️

keys_on_fire For some reason, I always enjoy the planning more than the actual doing…even though I love to read 🤣🤣 6mo
5feet.of.fury I just finished binging Brooklyn 99, love those prompts! 6mo
Clwojick @keys_on_fire There‘s definitely something calming and satisfying about figuring out the layouts and challenges. It‘s probably more stressful after you start because you start to worry about getting behind 😂 6mo

keys_on_fire @Clwojick You might be onto something there! Good luck with all your challenges! 6mo
Clwojick @5feet.of.fury it‘s definitely in our regular rotation! I had me thinking I should make a reading challenge based off of more TV shows. I think that The Office, Bobs Burgers and Gilmore Girls would be a blast! 6mo
Clwojick @keys_on_fire thanks! 🥰 6mo
Allkat I like the idea of a bullet journal but have never tried one. 6mo

Definitely one of my favourite #bulletjournal spreads, and one of my most anticipated 2022 reading challenges!

Who else is doing the O.W.L.s and which classes will you be attempting? I think I‘ll try for all classes, but I doubt I‘ll finish all the prompts for each class. #owlsexams #ordinarywizardinglevelexams

Bookworm54 Where is the prompt for this challenge? Sounds interesting :) 6mo
StaceGhost I love this idea! 6mo
4thhouseontheleft I'm doing the O.W.L.S. RC! I've done it once before, it's a lot of fun! I'll be focusing on Ancient Runes, Astronomy, DADA, History of Magic, and Potions. 6mo

Clwojick @4thhouseontheleft I‘ve never done it before. I never see the prompts in time, so I‘m super excited this time!!! ⭐️ I‘m going to try to read some for each class, but I‘ll probably focus on Potions, Herbology, DADA, Charms, Care of Magical Creatures, and Arithmancy. 6mo
Bookworm54 Thanks :) 6mo
wordslinger42 I wasn't going to do any reading challenges next year, until I saw this 😂 I'm going to try for all the classes, but I'm not sure I'll pull that offI already have a lot of ideas for the prompts, though 6mo
Clwojick @wordslinger42 I‘m glad you seen it in time! The last few years I‘ve missed it, so I‘m thrilled that I finally seen the prompts in time. ❤️ 6mo

How is it that it‘s time again for a #MonthlyWrapUp with my #indexcard collection of books read!? About a thousand cards ago when I began this journal/journey (I‘m looking at you @Clwojick I would sometimes make a mistake on a book‘s title and create a card anew. Now I look at The Apple Never Falls, and think, oh well - woops. …Happy Halloween Everyone!

BennettBookworm Woah these are so cool!! 7mo

Kenyazero These look great, as usual! Haha I love that you've stopped creating a new card when you make a mistake. Sometimes the errors arena fun element to journal projects. 7mo

Here‘s my September #MonthlyWrapup #IndexCard list. I think 7-8 books were not in the plans when I created my Sep #BookSpinBingo list but in way that‘s its own success since my next three months prioritize theme reading - this month was all about random mood reading.

Mandoul Love the lettering. Very nice 😀 8mo

Any of my fellow #Scarathlon players into #bulletjournalling? Are you tracking all your readathons, prompts, stats and points in your bujo?

The lovely @Jadams1776 created some stunning #bulletjournal stickers for the event. There is a physical and printable option. She also has team bookmarks!

Check out her Etsy shop here 🧡 https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/KYBookishCraftersLLC
