Grady Hendrix writes fun books! This story takes place in the 80s and is about 2 best friends in high school. One night during a party, one of the friends goes missing for a few hours. When she reappears, she is not the same.
I could not put down this book.
VERY DISAPPOINTED! ☹️
I LOVED the book but they butchered the book! Bad acting, bad production, rushed, no character development whatsoever. Soooooo bad!
Who else read & watched?
Any thoughts?
Agree or not?
Who else has seen the movie?
I‘d recommend NOT. It was awful.
I‘m SO out of the loop!!! They made a movie???! I had no idea!!
It's the worst cover ever, but it's finally mine 🤩
Thank you @Rachel.Rencher for #BookishCoupleGiveaway for the opportunity to win! My favorite genres are horror and thrillers.
My spooky watching for today! 3 movies, 2 episodes of the tv show version of I Know What You Did Last Summer, and 2 spooky episodes of The Simpsons. I‘ll add up all my #scarathlon2022 points tomorrow. Until then…Happy Halloween everyone! #teamslaughter
I liked this one. It was fun and creepy.
This was SO GOOD!! I honestly love just about anything set in the 80s and add in some teenage angst and horror and I‘m sold! I wasn‘t really expecting this to be as funny and touching as it was at times. The ending was especially surprising and made this so much more than a standard horror novel. I‘m watching the movie tonight to compare! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 #teamslaughter #scarathlon2022
This reads more like satire to me than horror. But this author has snarky undertones so 🤷.

When I added “Halloween themed workout” to my #fallbucketlist for the #scarathlon, I was pretty sure I‘d be able to find something online with a bit of a spooky playlist, maybe some thriller, some orange sweat pants, a pumpkin shirt if I was real lucky….but at no point did I imagine finding this hilarious commitment to the bit from LVCRFT (also a new epic find all on its own) and HyperBody Fitness

While this wasn‘t quite as big of a hit with me as my only other Grady Hendrix to date (Southern Book Club‘s Guide), I still enjoyed it! Loved every bit of the 80s nostalgia and campier elements. (How Phil Collins was referenced/invoked brought me great joy. 🤣) At times I found the pacing a little off, but it really might have been a me-not-the-book situation. I‘m interested in reading more of his books for sure. #AAM #AuthorAMonth
Working on an order and starting a new book in the 12 minutes I'll have to myself today lol

While I know I‘ve been horrible at remembering to post my #scarathlondailyprompts photos I had the perfect one for Day 23: Story! This is the story I‘m starting tomorrow and I‘m so excited! +15 points for #teamslaughter
This was fantastic! Very Grady Hendrix, very scary, very 80s. The ending was predictable but stirring. Grady Hendrix writes such evocative atmospheric horror. I really want to watch the adaptation now.

I absolutely loved this campy, funny, and nostalgic horror novel set in 1988. My elder Millennial heart was bursting with all the memories of growing up in the 1980s. The balance of horror and comedy is very well done, and Hendrix captures adolescence expertly. What teenage girl hasn‘t thought her best friend was possessed by something truly evil at some point? 😂 Thankfully, some friendships are stronger than any deity, angel or demon. 5⭐️
This was such a fun, nostalgic, self aware horror-comedy! Probably my favorite Grady Hendrix I‘ve read so far - I think the gaudy 80s setting fit with his irreverent tone and pop culture-laden writing best. Even the VHS style cover design is so perfect. I enjoyed the multimedia additions (yearbook pages, newspaper articles) and the framing device and redemption for Brother Lemon that the film adaptation left out.

This is my favorite Hendrix if you‘re looking for #AuthorAMonth. The #audiobook narration is amazing, and this cover art on the paperback is fantastic!
Abby and Gretchen first bond as kids over ET and rollerskating, but now it‘s 1989 and they‘re sophomores. One night they drop acid and Gretchen gets lost in the woods. When they find her in the AM, something has changed, but Abby is the only one who sees it. Can their friendship save Gretchen?

Late evening walk with a good audiobook. Perfect way to end a busy day.
EEK!!! It‘s finally here!🎥
Putting it on right NOW!📺🫣💀
Update! Although not a dead ringer for the book, HIGHLY entertaining!👏🏻👌🏻😂
Watched one more today. A fun and very faithful movie adaptation of the 80‘s pop culture inspired horror. #Scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash +5
I loved this! And the fact it‘s based on a book that I loved just makes it better. It‘s very cheesy and very 80s, but that‘s what I love about it #OnceAn80sGirlAlwaysAn80sGirl right @Cinfhen And it gives me 11pts for #TeamSlaughter in the #Scarathlon🎃 Woohoo🙌 Think I might listen to my audiobook of The Southern Bookclubs Guide To Slaying Vampires by Hendrix next🧛🏻♀️
Can‘t really get into reading right now so I‘m watching a teen horror movie instead. Of course. I read this book when it first came out, I might do a reread for #Scarathlon seeing as Grady Hendrix is the #AuthorAMonth as well. #TeamSlaughter 1pt
It's naptime and I have a million things to do but....priorities 😈

This was another sold work by Grady Hendrix! I think he did a great job of encapsulating those strange and awkward teen years which in some ways are completely horrible and yet wonderful and carefree at the same time. This is a story of what happens when those high school years and a friendship get tested by a demonic possession! At times I found myself thinking “Hendrix really took this a bit far” with some of the events and actions in the story.
Hey #AuthorAMonth fam - this just popped on to Amazon Prime yesterday! I haven‘t watched yet but I‘m sure it‘ll be a silly romp. I‘ve read a bunch of Hendrix already so I think I‘ll kick off Spooky Szn weekend by watching this. @Soubhiville
My tentative #Scarthlon Movie Watch List- please know that Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 are going to be watched, they are must views! I've been keeping a list of horror movies mentioned on WatchMojo and WhatCulture the last month or so, gearing up for the spooky season. #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick #HorrorMovies
For me, MBFE alternates between slightly juvenile and genuinely spooky. Abby is both admirable and annoying, always aiming for Gretchen‘s approval. But sometimes, her voice and tone grated on me, as teenage voices often do. Still, Abby is a ballsy kid who fights hard for her friend‘s future. I enjoyed this book‘s light-hearted romp into horror. It‘s a perfect choice for the season!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 80s nostalgia and gag-me-with-a-spoon horror. I really enjoyed this story of ride or die friendship (literally). My first Hendrix, not my last.
I loved this! I was 8/9 in 1989, so I do remember that time. I appreciated all the throwbacks, and the song titles as chapters. The gore was good enough to make me squirm a few times. Highly recommend, and looking forward to the film!
Tagged is my pick for August - but The Music Shop is definitely my overall pick for the past 4 months -

Make a great day everyone 🙂
Okay, publishers, let's talk. 🙎🏼♂️
I appreciate the thought that went into cover design/end pages that has all the scribbles like a year book would, but if you're going to publish a book with high quality heavy pages, you MUST pair it with a binding that will stand up to that weight. No doubt the frequency of use of a library book is not one that all copies will suffer, but this doesn't speak well for durability. Library fines in my future?
Which is more horrifying: being a teenage girl OR living in the South in the 80s?
I love that Grady Hendrix seems to be consistent in providing a heart warming final girls conclusion [at least for the 3 of his books I've read so far]. I have a soft spot for the 80s songs as chapter titles. I am a big wuss, so I was not a fan of the ick, but I recognize it's a staple of the genre. The 'secular' exorcism denouement scene was AWESOME.
How did I not know about this!??!??!!!!? I just randomly started rereading this not too long ago. I guess now I‘ll have to hurry up and finish it. I can‘t wait!!!!
