This was a long audiobook but very creepy and graphic.
Literally dropping the book I‘m currently reading to start this rn lol
Literally dropping the book I‘m currently reading to start this rn lol
The characters are tough and each had their own personalities. The backstory was long, but interesting. It was easy enough to follow and skip time lines. I never felt scared, but this was deliciously horrid and morbid. I must not have been in the mood, because I had a hard time getting sucked in, which is why it took forever for me to finish! The drawings are beautifully creepy! Hint: wanna be freaked? Check out the art in dark mode on Kindle 😬
I really loved this one. It starts out slow as it (necessarily) introduces the main players but by the time I got to “Little Heaven” I was fully invested. This was a fucked up and DISGUSTING book and I loved that about it. It made me physically recoil and lose my appetite mid bite and these are things I want to happen when I reach for horror! My only complaint was that the epilogue felt unnecessary.
Thank you for sharing @Lauranahe ❤️

Man, idk what my problem is but I‘ve been reading this book for a week and a half 😩 it‘s good so I know it‘s not that. I have all the time in the world at work. I just keep getting distracted. I have about 120 pgs left and I‘m dying to finish this by tomorrow so I can mail it out this weekend.
Sorry I‘m falling behind. I‘m feeling extra slumpy and lazy

Love my relaxing work nights (which is every work night now 😂😂) Got some more reading done and these #LitsyLove letters will go out this evening 🤗🤗
It‘s always slow/dead during my shifts at my new job. Trying to get some reading in.
I did manage to get some #LitsyLove done though!
I‘m so tired though I don‘t know if I get get my eyes to focus for more reading 😩
Yay it‘s here! I‘m excited and terrified lol
@Lauranahe thank you for the sweet chocolate treat too! ❤️
This book is creepy, even the second time around! I‘m only half-way through, and I legit had to stop eating lunch after one scene. @magyklyXdelish @Bookish_AF @madams421
Y‘all the book came in today! I‘m so excited to start #round09! #lmpbc @magyklyXdelish @Bookish_AF @madams421
This was a bit of a slog. I had trouble getting into it and trouble staying interested towards the end. #14of2020
I‘m gonna rate this a pick even though it wasn‘t that ravingly fantastic. It might just be that it‘s not the genre I usually go for, but I did enjoy it. The only reason I say it wasn‘t perfect is just because I found a few missing links in the story; a few unanswered questions. I will leave it at that and to say it was pretty spooky. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
As usual I‘m already excited for fall weather (if we get any in South Texas), Halloween, and spooky reads. Here is my haul for the #screamthon after shopping my library branch‘s shelves. Of course, it was really too early to do this as I will have to renew them all on Sept. 29th. 🤦🏼♀️ I will also never read them all in one month and have books I own to read. 🧟♀️
This novel definitely could have been shorter but I enjoyed the ride. This has probably been my favorite #horrorpost #litsyscreams pick so far.
A great choice @Tiffy_Reads 👌🏻
I am hoping to get this out to you tomorrow @SkeletonKey ✉️
I started on my next #litsyscreams #horrorpost read and the illustrations in this novel are fantastic!
Anyone else have trouble getting into this one? It has taken me like 4 days and I'm not even at 50 pages. :( I want to like it! Tell me it gets better! #doigiveup #help #iwanttoloveyou #nickcutter #littleheaven
@MaleficentBookDragon You did an awesome job with my #sockswap ! Love the Dr. Who socks and Deadpool cards😍 Excited to read Little Heaven (the author scares me too- that's why I needed this book-lol) My favorite candy🍬 swedish fish and jelly bellies! Thank you!!! @JPeterson
In a spooky mood! ☠️👽👻🎃

I got your #litsyscreams #horrorpost package today @Callemarie and I can‘t wait to read it!
I have so many thoughts about this book and I need people‘s opinion on what they though. I seriously loved this book and I honestly question why it hasn‘t been made into a movie because it would be one scary movie (in my opinion). But I‘m kind of torn on the ending and whether I liked it or not. What did others think
Because I forgot to take a picture of the packages @collegecatlady and @Bookgoil your guys #litsyscreams and #sockswap gifts are on it‘s way. Kristen I just want to hardcore apologize. I thought we had to have it sent off by the 7th not have it by the seventh so I do apologize but it‘s on it‘s way!
Okay guys I have about 150 pages left to read of this book and I‘m getting an early start because I‘m mailing this book off today for my #litsyscreams group. What‘s the most pages you have read in a day span and how long did it take you to read?
Wooohoooo I got these little gems in the mail today! @TheBookAddict I‘m going to dive into this tonight after dinner #litsyscreams
So this happened... @Callemarie it got returned to me. I don‘t know what happened. Would you or @teebe please email me your address again. Email me at yeseniatoles at gmail dot com. I‘m kinda bummed that it didn‘t get to its destination. I shall try again. #horrorpost #litsyscreams
Forgot to post a review:
Really good story. Great character development and great creepy and gruesome story. Very gory. I enjoyed the diverse characters and plot. I just felt like Cutter was playing with me, starting in the present and going to the past, back to the present, and then to the past. I just wanted to know straight out what happened and what was happening, but I know why he did it. Thanks @Tiffy_Reads for introducing me to Cutter.
From one crazy cat lady to another, thank you to Josie @crazycatlady for my #blanketandbookswap package!!! I hope yours got there? A book off my wishlist, and a throw with two of my favorite colors (pink and black, of course), and some candy goodies. Thank youuuu! I can‘t wait for you to get yours!
😽💓💓💓
Wow that did not end the way I thought it would. I enjoyed the book over all. Again I say Nick Cutter must have a thing for creepy crawlers 🕷🐜🦗🐝🕸🐞 and worms. It was not scary to me but the story pulled me in. Trigger warnings in spoiler comment below.
I am beginning to think Nick Cutter has a thing with worms and other bugs...🐛🐜🦗🕷🕸🐞🐝
It took me 200 pages for me to care and for it to rev up the engines. His other books have such atmosphere and environment. His characters took full shape in my imagination. But here, there was a lot lacking in the first half of the book. This is what I saw for at least 100 pages. (Photo courtesy of me) 3 bounty hunters take a job to rescue a child from a cult whose home, in the middle of New Mexico, is named Little Heaven. Last LH post I swear
This is the first book of his where I feel like the book was actually less than the sum of it‘s parts. When the author can stick this in a horror novel and you remember why you read this guy. Like that relationship that‘s gone on too long but you keep seeing glimpses of what first attracted you to them, and you stay. You stay for that one drop of water in that cruel desert.
That moment when you can taste the ending to a, at times, tortuously long book that says it ends on pg.474. Then you read page 474 and the next one is also 474. This keeps happening for so long you wondered if you died on the way to Panda Express and you‘re in an episode of the Twilight Zone. One of the nicer ones, because they have orange chicken, and it is delicious. Lol 20 more pages were all 474!!!!!!!!!!!!
#YouOughtaKnow better when writing about a setting, Nick Cutter. If your going to set a book in New Mexico, there should be Native Americans, and people who speak Spanish or Tewa. Or make jokes about the Land of Enchantment being the Land of Entrapment. Rivers are Rios. I‘m just saying if I set a novel in Texas, somebody will be wearing a cowboy hat and there will be a pickup truck, people will say ya‘ll. California, somebody surfs, or is 👇🏼
Mercenaries, a backwoods cult, monsters and a body count. This is one of those books where I wanted to really like it and it was an entertaining read but, I hated all the characters. #backwoodsbodycount #halloweenreads @Tiffy_Reads @JoeStalksBeck #screamathon @4thhouseontheleft
Shout out to my roommate for unknowingly contributing to this aesthetic.
This is my return to the library pile. I had high hopes for Little Heaven after I read The Troop, but found myself avoiding reading altogether rather than sitting down with this one. Maybe one day, I'll be able to finish it. #NickCutter #LittleHeaven #TheTroop #bailbooks
It's day 2 of my caffeine detox and I am feeling groggy. Good thing I've got some Nick Cutter weirdness to spook me awake #littleheaven #nickcutter #horror #canadianhorror #western
This is a horror book about a group of hired guns who are hired to help a woman find her nephew at a religious compound called Little Heaven. During their investigation the group finds something more sinister is lurking in the woods around the compound. I really enjoyed this book. While it wasn't necessarily scary to me, there was a lot of creepy and disturbing imagery and the story was very intriguing, which made me want to keep reading. (4/5)
#TBRtemptation post 10! #PhillyMeetUp edition! My other book haul pick. A cross between "Bloody Meridian" and "It". This has already been a #TBRtemptation, so I'll just briefly mention again that this takes place at a remote mid-century New Mexican settlement where pure evil traps everyone and leads to madness. Muah hah hah haaah! ? #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?
I might come back to this one later, but right now it's just not doing it for me. After an intriguing start, the plot slowed to a crawl. I have a hard time wanting to pick it up, and when I do I rarely read more than a couple short chapters. I reached a good stopping point so I'm not ruling out trying to finish it later, but for now this is a DNF.
#TBRtemptation post 8! Cutter is known for intense, gory horror that leaves you going ?? after the end. This is described as reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" and Stephen King's "It". A woman hires a trio of mercenaries to check in on her nephew, who was taken to a remote New Mexican settlement. The Black Rock monolith overlooks the place as things spiral out of control. Hell comes to Little Heaven. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?
In a bit of a reading slump since getting back from vacation. I've made very little progress in this book and haven't been able to start another. I did finish the film criticism book I started while traveling (review to come on that) but otherwise I've been having a really hard time staying focused on anything.
Giving it a pick as it was an easy read horror book. Read it for my freezer, worthy horror pick - I wasn't scared but this is probably just me, age and I've read it all before.
Definitely some nods to Stephen King.
Will get to the authors other books eventually!
Saturday night book and beer 🍺 really enjoying this book now. Nearly gave up at 50 pages and so glad I didn't! Not for the queasy though!
Starting this for my freezer worthy horror in the #litsyreadingchallenge! I haven't been scared by a horror story since I was about 15, I like them but they don't scare me. So not sure if this will end up in the freezer!
#librarybookhaul for the day.
Also, my library installed self-checkout kiosks this week. This makes me sad. I like discussing the books with the employees. Trying to discuss books with a kiosk will be, I suspect, less than stimulating.
