City of the Lost
City of the Lost | Kelley Armstrong
City of the Lost, the bestselling six-part digital series, is now in one volume for the first time. In this new thriller, New York Times and Globe and Mail bestselling author Kelley Armstrong delivers us to Rockton, a secret little town in the far north where the hunted go to hide. And where a hunter has now come to play. Casey Duncan once killed a man and got away with it. But that's not why she's on the run. Her best friend's ex has found Diana again, despite all Casey has done to protect her. And Diana has decided the only way she'll ever be safe is if she finds the mythical town she's heard of where people like her can go to hide. Turns out the town really exists, and will take Diana, but only if Casey, a talented young police detective, comes too. Imagine a hidden town, isolated in the Yukon wilderness, where everyone is pretending to be someone they're not. Even good people can get up to some very bad stuff. The laconic town sheriff dispenses his own frontier justice, but he's more accustomed to sobering up drunks in the horse trough, than attempting to solve the series of brutal murders that has rocked the town. As much as he hates it, he needs Casey. As for Casey, coming to the far North may have started out as a sacrifice she was willing to make for her best friend. But maybe, just maybe, she needs Rockton as much as the town needs her.

#SoaringScores #catchup
I have about 5 prompts to catch up on this weekend so I will do them in no particular order.
When I think of a #TimeBombTown I think of the hidden Rockton, tucked away in the Canadian Yukon & filled with people hiding from something. It always seems like a ticking time bomb is waiting to go off there. (And yes, I use this series a lot! 😉) Waiting for book #5.

Hooked_on_books I love this series! 1mo

#WanderingJune
I'm not sure I'd want to say #LetsGetLost for too long in Rockton, (a secret off-the-grid town in the Yukon Territory full of people on the run, looking for a quiet place to disappear to), but it certainly intrigues me. The Rockton series is one that grabbed me from the first (tagged) book, and I am now waiting for book five.

Hooked_on_books I love this series 5mo

Whoa! Armstrong's style immediately drew me in. Can't wait to read the next installment!

Casey, with her police experience and maternal instincts can't help but do everything in her power to protect Diana from her threatening ex. When he takes his prowling a step too far, and Casey finds herself in a troubling situation of her own- the friends flee the city for a new start in a town full of would-be convicts tucked away in Yukon Territory.

Where to start with this book? It was AMAZING! I loved that it was set in Canada, I feel like more books should be haha (I'm Canadian so I'm biased) the plot was very interesting and I loved the writing style. I also liked the main character, she felt very real. A really enjoyable book with a good plot. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for the rest of the series!

Interesting story. Some really great plot twists and a setting in the forests just below the Arctic Circle that was fascinating. I adored Casey, I liked the way she thought and I loved how smart she was. Great protagonist. About 2/3 of the way through it got a little draggy and went from practically no romance to a little bit too much, but I still took quite a shine to this book. Looking forward with great anticipation to the next. #murdermystery

Torn on this one. I really like the idea of the town off the grid, where you can disappear when you need to. I liked the dynamics among the characters. My problem was that I had just recently reread/finished Kelley Armstrong's Nadia Stafford trilogy, and there were too many similarities in the main characters. Not quite cut-and-paste, but it bugged me. Hopefully the rest of the series will be less deja-vu.

This one is a re-read for me as I have the second one on #MountTBR. I enjoy the premise that there is a secret town in the wilderness - a whole another 'world' secret from everyday life - though there are no supernatural elements to these books. But the safe haven of Rockton may not be so safe after all.

I really enjoyed this thriller. Usually I can tell who did it but this one had me guessing until the end. I was surprised at who was the culprit but once I thought back to the evidence it made sense.

I really wish that Casey wasn't so level headed and calm though. Some people could have used a tongue lashing from her.

Whoa, this book goes from 0 to 60 within the 1st chapter and doesn't really stop. It was completely unexpected and a fun read. It's an unusual setting and premise (in the Yukon), set in a hidden town where the people are all hiding from the law. Casey, a homicide detective (and a murderer), goes with her friend, a dv victim. When Casey arrives, she and the sheriff investigate murders of a few townspeople.

A solid thriller. Quite dark in places but also has a sense of humor. Apparently this author usually writes urban fantasy (or so I understand), but this is definitely more of a police procedural book. Entirely set in Canada, mainly in the Yukon, which I found fun. 🇨🇦

Due back TODAY & I didn't get to Kitchens of the Great Midwest😞but I got thru the cookbook & read & really liked City of the Lost. Casey Duncan a homicide detective who killed a mobster's grandson in college goes w/her best friend (escaping an abusive ex) to a town in the Canadian wilds that takes in those who need to get lost. Great premise w/murders, secrets, & some good twists. Looks like it will be a series & I'll definitely read the next! 👍

My internal dialogue: "Library books are due! OK-just drop off today-TBR stacks are out of control & you have 2 books from the other library. Well you're parked, maybe a quick look at the new books...This one's on the TBR list & this sounds really good, & this is a cookbook so it doesn't really count!
