currentlyreadinginCO I was struggling & used the study guides to go back and understand the characters and first two books better, and I feel like I finally understand what's going on! & this ch was comprehensible. I cheated a bit bc I saw some of what happens in future chapters, but I don't really mind that and found it helpful. I dunno if I would have the time and patience to look back at guides if I wasn't reading one ch per day with you all so I'm glad I'm here 😂 3mo

And I hate the bit about the “core of logic”… there is NOTHING logical about his changed feelings toward her. Ruthiella Poor Agnes. They really are awful children. Though Agnes also often thinks a good whipping might set them straight, which isn‘t in keeping with how many modern parents raise their children. 13mo

AnnR It seems the son gets his temper and bullying ways by example from the father. I don't think “Patience, Firmness, and Perseverance“ is going to be enough to reign in these little terrors otherwise. What on earth do the parents expect Agnes (or any governess) to do, in order to get the spoiled brats to take their studies seriously. 13mo
