lil1inblue @Bookwormjillk I nearly cheered aloud for May! 😏 😏 😏 #archerisoutmatched 3mo
lil1inblue “[Archer] felt, no doubt, more sorry for her than her indignant relatives; but it seemed to him that the tie between husband and wife, even if breakable in prosperity, should be indissoluble in misfortune.“ That's so rich coming from a #cheatingcheaterwhocheats, and it's interesting that he doesn't apply the same logic to Ellen. 3mo
dabbe @lil1inblue Amazing how sympathetic one can be towards the one that the heart wants, isn't it? 😏 3mo
Bookwormjillk @lil1inblue Archer is playing checkers while May plays chess 3mo
lil1inblue @Bookwormjillk 🎯 🎯 🎯 3mo
lil1inblue @dabbe And how hypocritical! 😂 #ireallydonotlikearcher 3mo
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk for real 🏆 3mo
mcctrish @lil1inblue I don‘t think Archer listens to himself when he thinks or talks 😆😆😆 3mo
KAO @Bookwormjillk Exactly! May has surprised me in this way! 3mo
julieclair @Bookwormjillk @willaful May is amazing AND scary!!! 3mo
ElizaMarie So proud of May —- she knows exactly what she is doing!!!! 3mo

ElizaMarie Okay, so May suspects, but what does she do about it? Do you think she is siding with the family against Ellen because of this suspicion? Like, secretly (or not so), she wants Ellen to be destitute, to financial and societal ruin? Or just to get her to leave? Either way? 3mo

Bookwormjillk @ElizaMarie The passage with may at the end where it said what she said in one phrase and then said what she meant in about 2 paragraphs was so interesting. I'm not sure she even knows what she wants though other than to maybe keep up appearances and practice archery in peace? 3mo
Cuilin “They smell less if one blows them out”!!!!!!! Methinks May wants rid of Ellen. (edited) 3mo
mcctrish I love how Archer knows exactly what May is saying even though she‘s saying nothing, AS IF! Nobody talks about anything, how would he know what goes unspoken #utternonsense but his guilt is talking loud in his head, that‘s for sure 3mo
lil1inblue @Cuilin 🎯😏 3mo
lil1inblue @mcctrish Exactly! His arrogance is beyond the pale. #dick 3mo
lil1inblue “Archer's New York tolerated hypocrisy in private relations; but in business matters it exacted a limpid and impeccable honesty.“ So Beaufort can be a #cheatingcheaterwhocheats at home and no one gives a fork, but he can't fail in business! How horrid! #shameshame 3mo
mcctrish @lil1inblue at least they are worrying about Beaufort‘s wife now being left penniless ( as opposed to when he was gallivanting around town and throwing money at women who weren‘t her) 3mo
lil1inblue @mcctrish I felt like they were less worried about Beaufort's wife, and more worried about the disgrace to the family name. #horrors 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly They‘re worried about Beaufort‘s wife being ostracized by his screw-ups. But they could choose not to ostracize her 🙄 3mo

Bookwormjillk I hope the guy in the crowd is a close relative of May‘s! 3mo

BarkingMadRead @bookwormjillk ohhhh I didn‘t even think of that! That would be epic #busted 3mo
Ruthiella What I found crazy is that Archer ran into acquaintances in Boston. It really underscored what a small world he moves in. 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly I thought the guy in the crowd was the French tutor from London. 3mo
ElizaMarie Oooo 👀who can it be!? 3mo

BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie I was looking for 1950s cards and couldn‘t resist 🤣 2y
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead it‘s fantastic!!! 2y
tpixie Live this photo!!! ♥️🎁♥️🎁♥️ 2y
rwmg Meat rationing only ended in 1954, hence Wilmet's focus on it during her lunch with Harry. 2y
Cuilin Oh my gosh that surprise gift and quote too. Wilmet will need to avail of the confessional at this rate. “Did you speak in Portuguese?” Sybil knows what‘s up!! 2y
BarkingMadRead @Cuilin nothing gets past Sybil! @rwmg I wondered about that, I thought that might be why (edited) 2y
kspenmoll Such color! Festive photo! I‘m trying not to read comments because my books still has not arrived. 2y
julieclair @Cuilin But… the hottie priest will probably be in the confessional! 😂 And… I totally agree about Sybil… she‘s pretty savvy. 2y
Bookwormjillk Nothing gets past Sybil 2y
Ruthiella @rwmg That is one aspect that I love about Pym‘s books: the time capsule look at postwar London and particularly the details about food. 2y
