One of my favorite movies. 🖤🖤🖤
Being normal. 💯
Woke up with an awful headache bc of my chiropractic adjustment. Going to watch the movie so I can return it to the library. Once the movie is watch I‘ll be taking a bath and reading to alleviate the tension before my day of errands. Here are my snacks for this am! Jasmine tea and a protein bar lol. #mrbook1inamillion #litsypartyofone #24b4monday
#unpopularopinion I didn‘t love this- at all. Rules of Magic is so incredibly better and almost reads like a different story. Needless to say I‘m disappointed. I‘ll be watching the movie to see how it stacks up on Saturday.
I had been meaning to read this a while and figured October was as good a time as any!
I liked the writing style, and thought the characters were good, but I sometimes struggled to follow the plot when it jumped to a new character. I also prefer my books to have chapters so it is easier to find my place again.
Overall I liked the story, but I wanted more background on the spells and witchcraft, and more magic!
Happy Halloween!! Katie, I absolutely love everything in my #basicwitchswap box!! A perfect halloween treat!! And thank you so much for thinking of my kitties!! So kind of you! They've already been playing with them! 🐱

Gonna post a few pictures!! It feels like Christmas morning but 100x better because Christmas never leaves me feeling fulfilled!! I love all these books @MoonWitch94 chose for me!! I‘ve been looking for a copy of Practical Magic for a while and this one is gorgeous! 🖤 #basicwitchswap
#ChillingPhotoChallenge #day26 #Magic I fell in love with the movie first, long before I came to read this novel. It‘s so very different from the movie, but I think the differences are what makes it just as strong to me. You have to think of them as two seperate stories to really appreciate them both. They both have their own unique magic. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-2,067
Another one that has been on my list forever but I've never gotten around to reading. I love the movie so the book has to be great too, right?

Unfortunately this was a big disappointment, & I say unfortunately b/c I needed a good distraction. Had to evacuate my apartment in the middle of the night b/c of the fires & sleep on a cot in a shelter w/my cat crying in a cage next to me. Still don‘t know when I can go home, & then this book was boring & 90% telling-not-showing prose. The imagery was strong & the sisters‘ relationship was interesting, but otherwise meh, & I‘m annoyed. 2/5 ⭐️
Loved seeing the difference between this and the movie! It‘s one of my favorite movies and I only found out it was adapted from the book a few months ago. And both stories really seem to sing! This book wouldn‘t have made a good film as is and vice versa. My favorite thing about the book version is that it‘s a bit darker. #24B4Monday #scarathlon #teamstoker @TheReadingMermaid
When your all your library holds come at the same time, you end up reading witchy books in October 🧙🏻♀️
Enjoyed this book. It was about two sisters, Sally and Gillian Owen, who are taken in by their two witch aunts when their parents die. The story focuses on the lives, loves, and children of the sisters. Themes include sisterhood, domestic abuse, magic, and the importance of family. Really enjoyed this. The film adaptation is not bad.
Decided to go for spoopy type reads in the week leading up to Halloween, and no better time for this one! I‘ve seen a lot of reviews from people who didn‘t like the book because it was too different from the movie, and I do love the movie (and would love to rewatch it soon) but the book also sounds great on its own, and I would definitely rate it on its own merits and not in comparison to the movie. #nowreading
Sick with a cold that hopefully doesn‘t turn into bronchitis- not thrilled about it.
1. Almond Joys and Caramel Apple suckers!
2. Bottlecaps and Candy Corn 😖
3. With my family I love roasting pumpkin seeds Hocus Pocus. My parents and I used to dress up and go clubbing on Halloween after I turned 21 but I‘m not sure if we‘re doing that this year. With my boyfriend we‘ve gone to a improv murder mystery show for the last 3 years and it‘s hilarious.
4. Hmm Probably my dark circus ringmaster costume
After last year's Book Riot Quizzes: https://bookriot.com/2018/10/08/which-literary-witch-are-you-quiz/
I put this on my TBR for this year. Neither loved it or hated it. Just Meh. Mostly made me glad I don't have a Sister. I've got Rules of Magic on Library hold. Looks like several Litsians perfer it. 🧙♀️
Ok Litsy- I want to listen to this because of my commute. BUT I‘m concerned that it says abridged. Thoughts?
I haven‘t seen the movie and I read The Rules of Magic first. I liked this, but not nearly as much as it‘s prequel. I think my expectations were really high and the story wasn‘t as compelling. I wasn‘t as invested in Sally and Gillian as characters as I was in Frances and Jet. However, this was the book that introduced the Owens family to the world, so it has my respect. I have to check out the movie now.
We had our grandson stay over last night, so inbetween all the reading & not sleeping coz bub was up & down all night, I have a headache. So I‘m in bed watching an oldie but a goodie scary(sort of)movie for #Scareathlon This is one of my favourite witchy movies, I really want to live in the aunts house! I love the book too, even though it‘s very different. #TeamSlaughter 2points #PointsTotal-42
By far my favorite Halloween movie of all time! Can‘t wait to watch it this weekend ☺️ on another note, just found out there‘s a prequel called “The Rules of Magic”. Just ordered my copy, can‘t wait to read it 🤗 #scarathlon #TeamSlaughter
And all of the books have been moved! It only took all day. These shelves are H-Z. #sundsyfunday
Because I read The Rules of Magic first and was completely enchanted by it, this was a little bit disappointing. I was emotionally invested in the prequel which failed to happen for this book. Still a pick, managed to finish this book in one day. Definitely looking forward to more Alice Hoffman.
Since I loved The Rules of Magic so much, it is obvious it should be followed by this one. It has mixed reviews so I hope it lives up to the expectations.
1. Fall leaves ; coconut lime ; fresh flowers 2. Jolly ranchers ; holiday shapes resses ; cheese its 3. Witches ; black cats ; spell books 4. Weather ; the kids dressed up ; all the spookiness #basicwitchswap @Meaw_catlady @sprainedbrain
