My morning consisted of making my own butterscotch flavoured coffee and this urban fantasy. It's very unique, but a little slow.

I SAT AT A TABLE IN MY SHADOWY KITCHEN, STARING down a bottle of Boone‘s Farm Hard Lemonade, when a magic fluctuation hit.
#firstlinefridays
I really like the concept behind this one and the unique magic system, but the pacing feels off. Could be bc the chapters are incredibly long.
Kate‘s work gets interrupted when her mentor & guardian is murdered. When her investigation starts turning up evidence of a manufactured war between the shifters & the vampires, she knows she‘s in over her head.
I liked a lot about this! The world building is absolutely fantastic, & Kate is an engaging & forceful character. But something about the way this book writes other women rubbed me the wrong way. I hope that part gets better!🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
The first book in the Kate Daniels series (#SeriesLove2025). What a world Andrews has built. I love the magic, the take on weres and vampires. And Kate is a badass! I want to be her sidekick 😅. I look forward to reading more of these books in the near future, to find out more about Kate‘s past and how things evolve with Curran.
Very gory and violent.
Really enjoying this series, just wrapped the 4th book and the two novellas that follow. Kate is quite the badass and I‘m a fan of the witty banter. It‘s kind of like Mercy Thompson meets Buffy. Check it out!
Soft pick. This series has been on my radar for a while, and I finally got around to reading the first book. I really like the characters and the world-building was unique. However, it was a bit more gruesome than I generally prefer. Despite that, I see myself picking up book 2 to see where these characters go next - but I'll probably #borrownotbuy

April 3 #TemptingTitles With Magic This is some of the books from a series I have read. @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Okay, I think I wasn‘t in the right headspace for this book because the world building was a little overwhelming. It‘s a unique concept and it took a while to wrap my brain around all the details. There‘s a lot of creatures and characters to keep up with, which made some parts hard to understand exactly what was happening. But the ending was really good and I‘m definitely gonna give this series a try! Already got the 2nd book on hold!
The 2nd half of the book really picks up. This came out in 07 when Urban Fantasy was still THE genre. But everyone was over werewolves/vampires and there had to be more to it. There is too much happening for a first (short!) book, the world with intricate magical rules, power dynamic of species, werebears, obscure creatures of Slavic origin, knights AND then family dynamics AND love stories. but in the end I was intrigued. Kate‘s cool.
This series gets a lot of love, and I‘m going to persevere. But stacking the world building, with every magical thing from every pantheon and these long as heck chapters are not helping 🥲 I‘m sure it will come together
This passage was so relatable. I read this book a few years ago but this time around I took my time. It is urban fantasy set in the not so distant future, starts off a little choppy but overall engaging and darkly creative.
I love the hidden legacy series so decided to dive into this one while I wait for the next book and it was fantastic. I love the world they build that switches between times of tech and times of magic. Great characters and lots of action.
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 289.

#audiopuzzling while listening to Magic Bites & Magic Burns. I haven‘t read the books in several years & October seems like a good time to reacquaint myself with the world of Kate Daniels. But now I have to wait for book 3 as there‘s a 2-week hold.

1️⃣ Sylphrena (Syl for short) from “The Stormlight Archives”. 🧚🏻♀️
2️⃣ Humor! I love a book character that can make me laugh! Urban Fantasy especially has so many snarky characters with laugh-out-loud dialogue like Joanne Baldwin, Harry Dresden, Justine Jones, and from the tagged book, Kate Daniels! I still chuckle when I think of how Kate met the Beast Lord… “Here, kitty, kitty!” 😂🦁
April 2021 - reread a great love - this is my security blanket - the world falls apart you can find me rereading this series (again) and holding on to a smile
Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView 😊
1. I‘m fine with any setting as long as the story is good! 😁 But I do have a special weakness for gothic settings... foggy streets, chilly cemeteries, looming mansions! They make my spooky soul smile! 😱👻
2. I prefer books with female protagonists. There are so many books with male leads, it‘s refreshing when a female is the star. I‘ve tagged a book featuring one of my favorite sassy heroines!
I think this may be the first urban fantasy I've ever read! I don't know that it's my cup of tea, but I'll give the next one a try. Any fans of this series?

3 stars. The rest of the series is better.
I really wanted to like this one. A book club pick and the universe sounded really interesting, but I had a hard time finding any characters likable :/ Kate‘s character felt super one sided (“I‘m a hardass who‘s never afraid and always joking”) and then the second half of the book pretty much centered exclusively around tactless sexual violence against women. Nothing felt nuanced, or subtle. Bummer since it‘s a series I thought I could get into!
#20Series20Days @Andrew65
I‘ve been terrible at doing this every day but here is another series I cannot get enough of. The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. There is 10 main books, many side stories and side series as well though. The author keeps the series interesting throughout the entire series. The main character, Kate Daniels... she is just one badass that doesn‘t take no crap and walks the walk and also talks the talk! Haha
A fun ride of fantasy adventure! (Book 1 )I think it will be fun to keep reading the series😎

(in no particular order)
The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, a wife-husband writing team. Kate is such a kick-ass heroine. Love this series.
I also love their other series, especially the Innkeeper series.
⭐⭐⭐ #Romanceopoly sun challenge "City Lane" read urban fantasy from recommendation list
I've been audiobooking for most of the day while I did a deep clean of my bathroom, but now I'm settled in with a print book. This is waaaaaaay out of my comfort zone, but I'm reading it for a future podcast episode and so far it's fun. #24in48 #stayhome24in48 @24in48
This was between a pick and a so-so. I had trouble rating it because I enjoyed the action and the scary monsters, but some of the character dynamics annoyed me.
If I had to choose my favorite urban fantasy series, I would probably name this one. And the 1st book in the series is only $0.99 currently in ebook form. 😍🦁
I finally have all 10 (main) books in the Kate Daniels series. I'm quite sad I only have 3 left to read though.
Are there any series similar to this one? Any recommendations??
While the first book wasn‘t my favorite, I was curious about the next one and then I finished the 10 book series, so this is a review of the series rather than the first book. At first, I thought the waves of magic and tech were contrived but interesting. I loved the different myths the authors touch upon. The main character Kate is tough, independent, an expert fighter. If you like sword fights, magic, and monsters, a fun series.
Day 21 of the #Fallisbooked challenge by @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @OriginalCyn620
#tricks makes me think of magic which makes me think of the Kate Daniels series which makes me think of one of the greatest introductions for a character ever in an urban fantasy series, when Kate met Curran!
CURRAN - “What kind of a woman greets the Beast Lord with ‘here, kitty, kitty‘?”
KATE - “One of a kind.”
😹😹😹
I really liked this first book introducing us to this new magical world. When magic is up, technology is down. There is someone or something out there killing people and killed Kate‘s mentor. I really liked Kate, she‘s very badass. She makes a lot of people and makes enemies. I‘ll definitely try to continue this series on audio!
#ReadingUSA2019 - Oregon (authors live)
Alright, I‘m calling it. I didn‘t get a lot of reading done this weekend, but I finished 1 book and only have 2 hours left in my audiobook.
Saturday I felt like death and couldn‘t focus on reading, but listened to some of my audio. Today, I listened to my audio for a while during my errands.
I think I‘m just so exhausted on the weekends, I just want to watch tv and give my mind a rest 🤷🏻♀️

Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView
1. I have never listened to an audiobook! 😳 A friend of mine highly recommended the “Kate Daniels” series on audiobook, so “Magic Bites” will be the first one I try!
2. As a gamer, I feel there aren‘t enough female protagonists, so when I play video games where you choose your character‘s gender, I almost always play as a woman. I‘ve been a female Jedi, a female dark elf, and a female crime boss!
Thank you for these #MoonReflections @Meaw_catlady Your friendship is a true blessing! 🤗🌚🌝
1. As an introvert, I tend to shy away from social engagements, but I‘ve already committed to visiting several friends in August!
2. I am worth it! 🦁
3. Tagged. When I was reading it, some people mocked me for reading what they perceived as a “girl‘s book”! Rather than buy into their ridiculous gender stereotypes, I embraced reading about strong women!
“Just what exactly in my track record gives you the idea that I‘m a nice person?”
People often tell me that I‘m not as nice as I seem - which usually just means I don‘t let them walk all over me.
I love Kate Daniels. Definitely time to reread the series.
Reread this to fit a SRP prompt, and still enjoyed it. I hadn‘t read this since it was new, so it was a nice reminder of why I love this series. They do get better, though.
Reading in the pit has gotten me some extra time, but only for things that don‘t require much concentration. Need to listen for my cues and be able to read in snips. But for the next five days I‘m off and can read more carefully!
Day 18 - Ugly Covers
I love these books by Ilona Andrews, but the covers are pretty terrible.

I needed that. Light, fun, easy, epic fight scenes, hilarious banter. I'm excited to reread the other books and finally catch up on the new ones.
Time to have enormous fun with a reread to kick off #WyrdandWonder! "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty..."
I wonder why did I wait for about 4 years to read this book??!! This book kind of hooked me to the point that leaves me wanting more and more. I can‘t wait to read the next book. 🗡 ♥️ 🦁
Yes please. 🌧 📖 ☕️ 🍵 🛌
I know I should be studying this for the quiz tomorrow instead of reading Magic Bites by Ilonna Andrews, but I can‘t help myself #toolazytostudy
The treadmill at the gym overlooks a donut shop. I'm hoping this book will distract me, but with 'bite' in the title, I'm back to thinking about donuts. 🍩🍩🍩
