1. MISSISSIPPI BLOOD by Greg Isles.....all 707 pages to keep you occupied. 😊

2. Socks

3. Not sure about the elevation.

4. Octopus - other than that, I like most foods especially Italian.

5. No on dressing up, but if I were to dress up, I would be a book. 😊

This final book in Iles‘ Natchez Burning trilogy proves to be my favourite of the three, and will undoubtedly make my list of favourites for the year. It‘s not quite as action-packed as the first two, as it centres around a court case, but it is every bit as compelling. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ericalambbrown I loved this trilogy! It was so good 5mo
CoverToCoverGirl I definitely hope we get more Penn Cage! 5mo
Melissa_J @CoverToCoverGirl I started with this trilogy (not realizing there are earlier Penn books), so I have to get around to the beginning! 5mo

I‘m currently at the halfway point of this final book in the Natchez Burning trilogy. I started it a few months back, set it aside for longer than I thought I would, but picked it back up this morning and am flying through it now! This trilogy features a lot of evil characters, all of whom are beyond #redemption #TallShipCelebration

CrowCAH Great tie-in with today‘s prompt! 5mo
Prairiegirl_reading I loved Natchez Burning but The Bone Tree was too much for me. I finished it slowly after long breaks. 5mo

I‘ve got a lot going on right now and really shouldn‘t be starting any more books, especially #chunksters But this book called to me from its place on my shelves and who am I to ignore the call? 😂

Ericalambbrown I got sucked in with Natchez Burning and got stuck until I finished the trilogy. I know your pain! 😂 7mo

Melissa_J @Ericalambbrown this is a very good series! I wish I hadn‘t waited so long to pick this up. I could use a refresher on some stuff. 7mo

Finished this story arc trilogy (Penn Cage numbers 4, 5, and 6). This was my least favorite of the three, but I‘m glad I read it to finish out the arc. My biggest complaints with this series are 1) the continual repetition of plot points and 2) the characters continually allowing the escape of the bad guys when it seems illogical that they‘d be able to do so.

All in all, I‘m glad I read this thought-provoking series.

Book three in the trilogy featuring Penn Cage. For me it was a page turner that I couldn‘t wait to come out. The book, like the previous two before it, arises a lot of emotions. He is the best in his genre in my opinion..

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This would've been five stars, but the whole "I could shoot him now, but I'm not going to because he needs the opportunity to escape and cause more damage" is getting old. ? I just finished it and it's possible that I'm just feeling grumpy. Still really liked the book and the series...

Just finished listening to Mississippi Blood and while it's not my favorite in the Penn Cage / Natchez trilogy, it still entertains with some crazy plot twists and Southern gothic characters. At 28 hours, there were a few areas that were a bit too nostalgic and repetitive, but if you're already invested in this series then it's worth it. #series #southernfiction

I simultaneously never wanted this series to end and also couldn‘t read fast enough to see how this epic story would come to a close. I will recommend this series to EVERYONE- especially to those who like historical fiction (although this is much more recent history- the 50s and 60s). All the stars for this wonderful trilogy. I will definitely check out Iles‘ other books.

JacqMac This series has been on my TBR forever. I keep meaning to start it. 2y

Iles brings the Natchez Burning Trilogy to a triumphant and wholly satisfying conclusion. The Bone Tree seemed to take forever to get going but this final installment, while still lengthy, never lets up on the tension.

Kaye Does this all take place with the same guy and is it like a mystery or detective or cop or lawyer type series ? I saw one of the books at the used bookstore. Wow, was it thick ! (edited) 2y
Lola I know there are prologue books to the trilogy. Do they have to be read first? Asking for a friend....🙃 2y
tammysue @Kaye My husband really enjoyed this trilogy.. he says - Penn Cage is a lawyer turned mayor, this is a mystery series. 2y
See All 12 Comments
Kaye Thanks @whatshesreadingnow ...the day I saw one of them at the store I think it was the first, I noticed it because it was SO thick. I even picked it up and carried it around but put it back. My used bookstore shopping might be a little odd to some. I never read what the books are about, just pick them up, look at the cover and BAM, buy them. For 2 bucks each, you can bring them back if they‘re something you don‘t like. Thank you. (edited) 2y
Minervasbutler @Kaye The trilogy is partly narrated by Penn Cage who is an ex-prosecutor and now Mayor of Natchez. It centres around his father who is on trial for the murder of his ex-lover and nurse. But it delves deep into race crime and even the JFK assassination. So it's all those things you ask and more. 2y
Minervasbutler @Lola I haven't read the earlier books and though there are occasional references I would say the trilogy can be read alone. 2y
Kaye Sounds very good @Minervasbutler ! I should‘ve grabbed it. Back to the bookstore this week. 😮 2y
tammysue @Kaye They‘re each around 800 pages. This was the very first book that got my hubby into reading. He read all three 800 page books in a row! 😛 2y
Kaye @whatshesreadingnow wow, that is terrific ! They must be really good then to keep him interested for that many pages ! Is he a pretty frequent reader now ? 2y
tammysue @Kaye He reads daily now, I‘m kinda jealous.. and he‘s a fast reader unlike me 2y
Kaye That‘s great that he reads daily . A good habit to get into if you have the time. No worries on your speed of reading. I often wonder if people who read slower actually retain more info than those that read fast. As long as you read, the speed doesn‘t count. @whatshesreadingnow (edited) 2y

Day 22 of #MelodiousMusicals and we have #OlManRiver from one of my mum's favourites #Showboat. Thinking of the Mississippi brought me to mind books by John Grisham, as well as Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. However I have chosen to go with Penn Cage and the Natchez Burning Trilogy, the third one of which is called Mississippi Blood. I have loved the first 3 in the Penn Cage Series but yet to read the Natchez Trilogy, possibly over Christmas!

I read any book I find by this author. Had to wait for last book of trilogy, but it was worth the wait. This one focuses on the murder trial of Dr. Cage, father of the narrator. One witness is murdered on the witness stand by the KKK just as he is about to testify. Yes, the entire book has suspense of this nature. I recommend the entire trilogy.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Ok... Penn Cage is an attorney/mayor of Natchez Mississippi. His father, a beloved doctor of the town, is accused of murdering his African nurse. There are secrets, crimes, corruption, lies and a group called The Double Eagles (similar to the KKK) that come up!! Penn's fiancé is a reporter for the newspaper and I love her!! I'm so going to suffer from the worst book high withdrawal ever! This final book in the Natchez Burning trilogy wrapped up everything in the first two books. And, in doing so, was often repetitive. The meat of this book was a trial which (as a former trial attorney, one of my greatest bookish pet peeves) was completely unrealistic. For that reason, only a meh for me.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 😐😐 I was hoping for more!!! He is bad sometimes about being repetitive... 3y
minkyb Sorry you felt this way. For me it was a great read, perhaps not perfect but the Penn Cage character and surroundings have been memorable. 3y
Andrew65 @minkyb I hope to read this trilogy over the Summer. 3y
minkyb @Andrew65 It all started for me with the first Penn Cage Book THE QUIET GAME and I just kept going. The fact that Ilies suffered that horrific car crash and was able to come back and produce the trilogy is amazing. I really like his writing. 3y
Andrew65 @minkyb Me too, I have now read all the Penn Cage books up to the Natchez Trilogy and loved them all. Even enjoyed the novella The Death Factory which comes immediately before the Trilogy and exceptionally rare for me to enjoy a novella as they are usually too short. 3y
