pickAn epically woven story with multiple POVS and a developing plot that slowly deepens as you read. This was a dark magic, not welded by witches but by a greedy, twisted, super effed up emperor. I enjoyed the wild tales and mystical creatures. The characters were complex and the whole concept was unique, at least to me as this is far from my normal genre. so-soOther reviews saying there isn‘t much “library” in this Mercenary Librarians story are accurate. The epilogue on that storyline felt like an afterthought. I wanted to like this so much more, but it felt like Trail of Lightning in a lot of ways. The focus of the book was more on Knox than Nina, and the “villain” reveal/turnaround was a let-down. And the big moment at the end? Completely predictable. Sad to say I was disappointed. #Roll100 #85
