The Kind Worth Killing
The Kind Worth Killing: A Novel | Peter Swanson
Shares a lot of Gone Girls hallmarks but cranks up the volume . . . Entertainment WeeklyOn a flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning Lily Kintner. Over martinis, the strangers play a game in which they reveal intimate details about themselves. But what begins as playful banter between Ted and Lily takes a turn when Ted claims, half-seriously, that he would like to kill his wife. Then Lily surprises him by saying that shed like to help.Back in Boston, Ted and Lily forge an unusual bond and talk about the ways Ted can get out of his marriage. But Lily has her own dark history shes not sharing with Ted. As Ted begins to fall in love with Lily, he grows anxious about any holes in their scheme that could give them away. And suddenly the two are pulled into a very lethal game of cat and mouse, one in which both are not likely to survive when all is said and done.[It] would have made a great Hitchcock movie.Fort Worth Star-TelegramExtraordinarily well-written.Nelson DeMille

I feel like this is the Swanson book everyone recommends, and I finally got around to reading it. While not as frenetic as some of his other stories, the pacing was still excellent and kept me turning the pages. My only real eye-roll with Swanson's writing in general is that literally every character he writes is somewhat obsessed with/primarily motivated by sex, which gets old to me. Still, a great thriller with some fun twists.

Le voilà! July's bookspin.
Just in case I finish some of these books in June, I even have a subs bench to replace them 🙃

#bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

I already read one of the #roll100 picks for this month (🥳) so the two other picks are The Kind Worth Killing & Will Smith's autobiography. I'll be honest, after the Oscars I've not been massively enthused about reading the latter, but I guess I shall see...

This is a smart book with a well thought out plot -- except for the ending. The twists and turns kept taking me by surprise, and it was a very enjoyable read, even though the character voices were rather similar (3rd person limited might have worked better than 1st person POV for each character). ⬇️

This was my #bookspin for April, and finally I'm caught up with my bookspins for the year! @TheAromaofBooks

eeclayton The ending was a bit of a letdown for me, it felt out of character that Lily should make such a stupid mistake. However, I liked the father's letter on the last page with the ominous PS section. 3mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! This one is on reserve for me at the library. I have such mixed feelings about Swanson's books! I literally can't put them down when I'm reading them, but then I get done and think about all the things that were 100% based on coincidences and other randomness 😂 3mo
eeclayton @TheAromaofBooks this was my first Swanson but I felt about it the same way 😂 3mo

#TheKindWorthKilling #PeterSwanson #BookSpinBingo

From the author of the acclaimed The Girl with a Clock for a Heart—hailed by the Washington Post as crime fiction‘s best first novel of 2014”—a devious tale of psychological suspense involving sex, deception, and an accidental encounter that leads to murder that is a modern reimagining of Patricia Highsmith‘s classic Strangers on a Train.

EadieB On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that‘s going stale and his wife Miranda, who he‘s sure is cheating on him. 3mo
EadieB Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start—he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit—a contrast that once inflamed passion, but has now become a cliché. 3mo
EadieB But their game turns a little darker when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda for what she‘s done. Lily, without missing a beat, says calmly, “I‘d like to help.” After all, some people are the kind worth killing, like a lying, stinking, cheating spouse. . . . 3mo
See All 16 Comments
EadieB Back in Boston, Ted and Lily‘s twisted bond grows stronger as they begin to plot Miranda's demise. But there are a few things about Lily‘s past that she hasn‘t shared with Ted, namely her experience in the art and craft of murder, a journey that began in her very precocious youth. 3mo
EadieB Suddenly these co-conspirators are embroiled in a chilling game of cat-and-mouse, one they both cannot survive . . . with a shrewd and very determined detective on their tail. 3mo
EadieB This book is really good. They met in an airport bar and planned to murder his wife. It's a bit like the Stranger on the Train but so much more. You really need to read this book as I don't want to spoil it for you so that is all I am going to say. This is my first Peter Swanson book but won't be my last. 3mo

Everyone in this book is trying to kill everyone else. Every charactor was unlikable but there was one I kinda wanted to get away with everything. The end was abrupt and, while it seems obvious what must happen next, I wanted more of those details. In all it was an entertaining ride.

I‘m officially a Peter Swanson fan. This book never let up from the first sentence till the fantastic last one! I‘m calling it “Double Indemnity/ Body Heat 2.0”
Told in the POV of wealthy Ted and mysterious Lily, we as the readers only know what they know. All along I knew there had to be multiple other sides to the sordid story. The lesson here to men is to never trust a woman who wants to always please you sexually.

Oh my! Peter Swanson never fails when it comes to plot twists with page turning suspense. He's my second favorite author next to James Patterson. He always gets me surprised, I don't know how he does it. I liked this psychological thrill ride and for once the psycho character in it I found myself liking. 😱 5 stars.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Finally read this book as a part of #bookspin and it was worth the hype that was generated like five years ago! 😂 I thought the structure was great! I will say part II was not as gripping as parts I and III because I thought it was a bit predictable. But I loved the similarities to Strangers on a Train and the many differences. The ending was fantastic! #bookspin No. 10 complete!
